5
Key Performance Indicators
Energy
Overall reduction in energy consumption can be attributed to various reduction campaigns that have taken place across our facilities. Some examples include: lighting retro-fits, turn it off campaigns, education to employees and identifying inefficiencies and upgrading equipment.
Success Story
Jarden Branded Consumables: At our Mapa facility located in Malaysia they have upgraded the existing mercury high bay lamp used in the manufacturing area to an induction type high bay light that can reduce the electricity consumption and enhance the fire protection at the facility. This upgrading activity has power savings of approximately 40%. In addition to this the facility provides reminders to all staff on the efficient use of electricity at the facility.
Jarden Consumer Solutions: Starting in 2008 JCS factories located in Canada, California and Missouri engaged in lighting retrofits to install high efficiency lighting. Since this project started through 2014, electricity usage has been reduced by 30,113,655 KWhr. This led to a savings and a reduction of 15,147 Metric Tons of Green House Gases.
Jarden Branded Consumables: Yankee Candle Company implemented a line expansion project at their manufacturing facility located in Deerfield, MA. The project was designed to utilize new, innovative energy efficient technology for the production of candles. Yankee Candle worked in a joint effort with the local electric utility company, WMECo. This project has increased candle production by 92% with annual energy savings of 768,680 KWhr and reduced annual emissions by 1,168,821 pounds of Co2.

Water
Water conservation efforts have continued to take place across our organization to reduce overall use of water. Some of the various projects that we engage in include: identifying inefficiencies, awareness campaigns and upgrading of water treatment facilities.
Success Story
Jarden Outdoor Solutions: Our Jarden Team Sports, Tennessee Tanning facility was presented with the Tullahoma Pride Award for wastewater improvements. This is an unsolicited award by the city of Tullahoma, TN. The tannery was recognized for its significant improvements.
Jarden Consumer Solutions: To help drive water reductions, our facility located in Acuna, Mexico kicked off a “Save Water” campaign. To help employees be more conscious about saving water, posters were hung in the facility to drive awareness.
7
Waste
Our facilities continue to look for new ways to eliminate waste. Across our organization there are many initiatives that are focused on driving waste out of our supply chain while striving towards our ultimate goal of zero waste.
Success Story
Jarden Branded Consumables: At our BRK brand location in Brampton, Canada they have engaged in a Zero Waste program. This is a product and waste management system in which BRK (the manufacturer), not the consumer or the government, takes responsibility for the environmentally-safe management of our product when it is no longer useful or discarded. This solution engages contractors in collecting waste and provides BRK with a customized waste diversion and recycling / upcycling program coupled with a robust and ongoing marketing and PR campaign. Established in 2012, this is the only producer take back program within the fire safety category and results in potentially over 300,000 pounds of waste being diverted from landfills across the country annually. BRK was recognized for their efforts by the Electro-Federation Canada Award.
Jarden Consumer Solutions: At our Neosho, MO location increased efforts around recycling have led to a 22% solid waste reduction in 2014. This number was achieved due to understanding more about waste streams from recycling audits along with an increase in engagement among employees to help drive the recycling program.
Jarden Branded Consumables: At our United States Playing Cards (USPC) company in Erlanger, KY a com-mingled recycling program was launched. To kick off the new program all employees were given a custom deck of “Sustainability playing cards” along with a desk side recycling bin. USPC is making a difference by greatly reducing the amount of landfill waste by recycling office paper, magazines, newspapers, cardboard, plastic bottles and glass.

Packaging
Across our organization we continue to look for new innovative ways to remove excessive packaging without sacrificing quality and appeal.
Success Story
Jarden Team Sports: At our St. Louis, MO location the packaging on replica batting helmets was replaced with a sustainable alternative. The PVC packaging was replaced with corrugated packaging. The new packaging uses sustainable E-Flute corrugate which provides more space for graphics and eliminates the easily damaged plastics.

Employee Engagement
Monarch Butterfly Initiative: Jarden Corporation initiated a global sustainability project for 2014 for all facilities on the migration path of the beautiful Monarch butterfly. Experts are concerned that Monarch butterflies, famous for their nearly 3,000 mile migration to Mexico and coastal California during the summer / early fall months could be drastically decreasing in numbers. Our facilities that are important to the migration pathway were challenged with helping to support efforts to improve the Monarch’s habitat by including appropriate plantings and gardens to help facilitate the Monarch migration.

Social Responsibility: Success Story
In 2014 JAH hosted its Annual Supplier training events in Hangzhou and Dongguan, China. This event which is sponsored by JAH is open to all suppliers and customers. The training sessions were focused on “Best Practice” sharing and solutions to common challenges that factories are encountering. Topics such as Laws and Regulations, Fire Safety, Working Hours and Sustainability were covered at the events.
Guest speakers such as Wal-Mart along with our own suppliers presented on challenges and potential solutions to common issues factories are encountering within their own operations. These events concluded with an awards ceremony to recognize certain JAH suppliers that are exceeding expectations.
The feedback from our Supplier Training events was very positive and continues to serve as a “Best Practice” within the CSR field. Future trainings will continue to be focused on sharing innovative solutions to drive improved working conditions in all our Supplier’s factories.
