A Life of Learning and Love....“The Highs and Lows of Ministry”
God is with us in the highs and lows of life, and thank goodness that’s true! December 22nd was one of the fullest Sunday mornings in my 20+ years of
ministry. I was one of the “census takers” in Bethlehem during our Christmas festival, played handbells and sang with the choir in the Christmas cantata, and of]iciated at four baptisms. Two nights later we shared in three services on Christmas Eve. My thanks to everyone on our worship team who made this year’s Advent season so lovely and meaningful. On the day before Christmas Eve, a reporter from the Casper Star‐Tribune called to inform me that my predecessor, Dr. Bryant Badger, had been arrested. I have discussed this matter with Bryant and his family, our elders and church board, and our regional minister. It is unfortunate that the details of this case were sensationalized on the front page. As a church community, we do not condone the behavior described in that article, but neither should we jump to judgment. Let us not forget we’ve all sinned or faced times in life when we hope for mercy and grace, just as I’m sure Bryant’s family would hope for in this situation. Bryant has expressed remorse to me for the distress this has caused our congregation. Those who have known Bryant for a long time may still be sorting through your own reactions ‐ including anger, grief, disappointment, fear or confusion. Now, more than ever, is a time to practice what Christ taught us. We need to support each other and come together as a faith community. This incident may have stirred strong emotions tied to past memories for some individuals. If you need to talk or pray with someone, please know that you can talk with me or our elders. As Dr. Badger pastored First Christian Church in Casper for 25 years, and is still an active member of our congregation, I know that many of you are very concerned about his family. It is not necessary nor appropriate to discuss intimate details of others’ lives. With his family’s permission, I will share that Bryant’s situation is still up in the air. He is seeing health professionals and has retained a lawyer on his behalf. There are many people praying for Bryant, his daughters Jenny and Julie, and for our congregation.
From WTMS Committee Congratulations to Briana Black and Arlon Miller for receiving our 2014 Spring Semester Scholarship Awards! We feel blessed to have awarded these talented young adults and know they will truly bene]it and put these funds to good use during their time of study. We also want to “thank” those in the past who have made this possible. These two awards were a result of the thoughtfulness, generosity and advance planning of Donald Klinker and Dorothy Murphy. Should you have a desire to establish or get more information regarding the FCC Scholarship funding, please contact Judy Baker (307‐277‐1530) or one of the “stewardship” members.

________________________________________________WILL OUR CHILDREN BE GENEROUS?
(Excerpts by Kathy Haueisen)
Every day, children are exposed to messages telling them to spend money on themselves. These messages try to convince children they are worth what they possess. Who will send them messages about the benefits of being generous people who share and save their money as well as spend it? Who will teach them that they are valued by God just the way they are, regardless of what they own or what they wear? There are no guarantees that generous parents will raise generous children. Even parents who intentionally practice and teach faithful stewardship habits cannot be assured that their children will be equally motivated to be good stewards in their adult years. However, there are things we as parents can do to influence our children’s attitudes and actions as co-stewards of the family household: Read or watch age-appropriate stories about generous people with your children. Then talk about the story together. For example, Zach Bonner, age seven at the time, founded the Little Red Wagon Foundation in 2005 with the help of his mother. When asked about why he wanted to spend so much effort helping children living in poverty he said, “These kids don’t have a home, they don’t have a safe place to sleep at night. They’re out on the streets not because they want to be, but because it’s out of their control.” He started by pulling his own little red wagon through his Florida neighborhood to collect items to help people who’d suffered from the hurricanes that plagued Florida in 2004.
Preschool News Itʼs hard to believe we are more than halfway through the year and time to start thinking about next fal l . Preschool enrollment for the 2014-15 year has started. If you are interested in enrolling a child, please contact the preschool or the church office for information. February is a busy month for the students with visiting Old Chicago to make pizzas, Pajama Day and Pancakes, quilting and of course the wedding of “Q & U”. You are invited to the ceremony on Friday, February 7th at 11:00. Sun, sand and swimsuit day, making tie dyed tshirts and tumbling. Our annual Spring Program and Silent Auction will be at the Casper Elks Club on March 6th. If you are interested in donating an item for the silent auction, contact Teacher Jenny or Teacher Annette. As always, We appreciate the help and the support of the congregation.

ATTENTION SHEPHERDING LEADERSMeeting of all Shepherding Leaders, Sunday, Feb. 9th at 12:15 p.m. in Board room. Contact Paul Hallock if you have any questions.
In the year ahead, we will undoubtedly share more highs and lows of ministry. In 2013, 21 new members of]icially joined our congregation. Who knows how many will ]ind Christ in our midst in 2014? The Saturday sandwich ministry is going strong. Our youth continue to meet every Wednesday and will experience a “30‐hour famine” this Spring. New lay leaders are beginning their terms of service and we are moving into a more focused church structure, to help us live out the vision statement: to be a faithful growing church that demonstrates true community, deep spirituality and a passion for justice. It is a privilege for me to share the highs and lows of the walk of faith as your pastor. Blessings! ‐ Pastor Cynthia
