Bizkaia Arena is the venue of choice for the 2014 FIBA BASKETBALL WORLD CUP in Bilbao.
Bizkaia Arena, is an integral part of BEC – Bilbao Exhibition Centre and meets all the requirements to host an event of such a magnitude as a FIBA BASKETBALL WORLD CUP. Bizkaia Arena has already hosted diverse important Basketball Events that obtained record attendance and were implemented to the highest standards.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL BUILDING
Housing a sports centre, the main characteristic of this 30.800 m² municipal building is functionality, which includes a swimming pool and gymnasiums for the residents of Miribilla district.

OFFICIAL VENUE OF THE ACB LEAGUE
Bilbao Arena is the official venue where the games of the ACB League and European competitions of the local basketball team are played.
The court has the added attraction of being able to be divided into three smaller courts for multi-purpose sports events, such as smaller basketball and football matches.
The total of 25.985 m² of surface contains changing rooms for professional athletes and large-scale events, along with the standard infirmary and drug testing area, storage space, and other service facilities.

SEATING CAPACITY OF 9.800 SPECTATORS
With a seating capacity of 9.800 spectators for a Basketball configuration.
The facilities are also available for all types of events when not in use by our local basketball team.

EQUIPPED WITH A SPORTS CENTRE
The Sports Centre, with its total surface area of 4.823 m², is equipped with a six lane, 26 m. long swimming-pool, along with a smaller one for young children.
There are also different changing rooms for individuals, for groups, disabled people, technicians, and so on.
Other facilities include a 520 m² multi-functional gymnasium, which can be divided into three spaces to be used for administration, monitoring, or similar purposes.

FIRST MUNICIPAL SPORTS FACILITY
La Casilla Pavilion was the first sports facility built by Bilbao City Council, it was inaugurated in 1967. Until the opening of the Bizkaia Arena it was the biggest covered facility in the city with a capacity of 4.500 seats.

VENUE OF DIVERSE SPORTS COMPETITIONS
La Casilla Pavilion has hosted all kind of sports competitions and it was the venue of historical teams of Biscay such as: Aguilas, Kas, Patronato, Fiber Urcelay, Juventus, Hockey Santutxu and Kaixo. It has also hosted the Junior World Basketball Championship for Women and it was one of the Pre-Olympic Basketball venues for the Olympic Games of Barcelona in 1992.

HOST OF THE ACB LEAGUE UNTIL SEASON 2008 - 2009
During the past years it has experienced a mayor transformation, being the official playground of the local Basketball team of the ACB League until season 2008-2009.

CONCLUSIONS
• Bilbao has demonstrated its capability to organize major sporting events.
• Bilbao counts on the infrastructure, venues and human resources required to organize an event such as the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
• The Bizkaia Arena, the venue where the matches will take place, as well as the Bilbao Arena, the venue where the trainings will be carried out, are both first class facilities where high-level sporting events have already been celebrated.
• Bilbao, as a host city, has the support of the three main public institutions in the territory (City Council, Regional Government of Bizkaia and Basque Government).
• Bilbao wants to become a leader in the organization of the World Cup and, therefore, all the efforts will be made so that the national teams visiting Bilbao have a great stay in our city and can develop their sporting activity in the best conditions.
