The recent years have witnessed an unparalleled growth in the field of cyber domain. This sharp increase in automation has also led to increased aggressive cyber-attacks and security incidents in critical infrastructures and industrial control systems. But how real are these threats and how effective are we in defending the digital ecosystem against advanced targeted attacks?

Major industries and leading companies in the energy and utilities sectors have relied heavily in running their businesses using industrial control and SCADA systems. Sadly, these multi-billion dollar industries regarded as critical infrastructures, have been the constant target of cyber-attacks in the recent years.

The 2014 ICS Cyber Defense for Energy and Utilities Caxton Interactive Technology Workshop aims to bring together top industry leaders and internationally recognized experts in one prestigious interactive event that will address critical issues and provide solutions in the information security realm today.

THE EFFECTIVE APPROACH FOR PROTECTING OIL AND GAS CRITICAL

INFRASTRUCTURES FROM THE EMERGING CYBER THREATS

While there were heaps of talks during the last few years about the increase in

emerging threats that are targeting Industrial Control Systems (ICS), the major

challenge that needs more focus is how to practically improve cyber security within

these heterogeneous industrial environments while maintain safe operation. The

session will give a comprehensive overview of the practical approach for designing

and implementing cyber security for the new Industrial Control Systems from Front

End Engineering Design (FEED) Stage to the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and

Construction). It will also discuss how to address the challenges faced for securing

the existing new and legacy control systems in the brown oil elds.
