Title: Benefits and Challenges to Adoption of Blended Learning

Abstract: Shifting to completely online classes was the cool thing in the last several

years, and most colleges and universities currently do offer some online courses, or

choice of traditional course sections or online options. On the more extreme end of the

spectrum are totally online universities, or programs which can be completed exclusively

online. Even more recently, a course format called Massive Online Open Course (or

MOOC) has received sensational press attention. However, education and traditional

classrooms are undergoing another and different transformation --BlendedLearning. The

abilities to create one’s own online video presentations and the abundance of

crowd-sourced educational videos have enable teachers/instructors to ―flip the classroom‖

where students watch online streamed lectures and presentations at home (as homework

now) and participate in problem-solving, exercises, and group projects in class. Hence,

the phrase ―flipped classroom‖ is often used to describe this blended learning pedagogy.

The ―flipped‖ approach is more than just supplementing class materials with online

readings or videos, or equipping every student with a tablet or laptop in class. Blended

learning adoption is being contemplated today because a majority of the students’ way of

learning has changed, and technology and information resources are widely and

affordably available to enable this flipped format. Blended learning will have more

massive adoption than MOOCs or exclusively online courses as elementary/primary

schools to colleges to corporations can engage, or have engaged in flipping their

traditional classrooms to various extents.

Title: Teaching College General Education Classes

Abstract: In United States, as well as in a number of other nations, university and college

have a set of required General Education Classes for undergraduate students to take. The

purposes of general education are to help develop students’ ability to think critically and

communicate clearly, to let students have an entire university experience, to assure broad

exposure to areas of study beyond the major, and to foster a deeper understanding of the

world. However, many students come to general education classes with low interests; see

those classes as a burden instead of benefit. All they want is to pass those classes and get

done with them. In order to achieve the purposes of general education, we need to raise

student interests in these classes. This presentation proposes two strategies to raise

student interests: (1) teaching the subjects through applications and examples that most

students may like to see, such as games, and (2) teaching the subjects within the contents

of students’ major study fields so that students feel that the class is relevant. In this

presentation, I will give a few examples of applying those strategies in teaching general

education mathematics classes.

Abstract: In the era of intensifying globalization, competition among companies has

become severe, such that companies are required to make paradigm shifts in all areas

to be more competitive. Studies have shown that companies will gain sustainable

competitiveness through deliberate and continuous innovation. Nevertheless, studies

examining marketing innovation –one specific type of innovation– are still rare in the

literature. Marketing innovation encompasses new marketing method that includes

significant changes in product design or packaging, product placement, promotion,

and product pricing strategy. It emphasizes consumers, direct competitors, and the

company’s position in the market. This study aims to examine factors that influencing

marketing innovation and factors inhibiting innovation activities. In this study, a

theoretical framework was developed to propose hypotheses concerning the influence

of overall collaborative partners (in terms of consumers, competitors, and within the

focal company) on marketing innovation. This study also attempts to investigate the

effect of three moderating variables, namely cost, knowledge, and market barriers. In

order to test the hypotheses, we surveyed 208 Indonesian-based companies, which

encompass 41 industrial sectors. The largest percentage (that is, 13.5 percent of the

total) was derived from financial and accounting service sector. Most of the

respondents were at least at the managerial level and had at least 5 years of tenure.

This study used hierarchical regression model to analyze the data. The result indicated

that marketing innovation requires significant changes in product design or packaging,

placement or distribution, promotion, and pricing. Marketing innovation will be

successfully launched or implemented, only if companies engage in innovation

activities with their consumers and competitors in the industry, as well as within their

internal units or departments. Cost, knowledge, and market factors were found to be

non-significant barriers in the relationship between collaboration and marketing

innovation.

the US

Abstract-Customers and users have increasingly become an important source

of innovation and new product development. This paper compares online

customer reviews on iphone4 and Galaxy s3 from Amazon and Guome. It was

found that Chinese reviews were shorter and tended to have higher ratings and

less emotion-labeling words than those from the US. These findings are

consistent with cross-cultural research in consumer behaviors. Therefore,

companies need to heed the differences in culture when incorporating online

customer feedback into their global marketing and innovation strategy.
