Social Initiatives – May 2014

CSR at Suryoday is beyond philanthropic activities. It encompasses activities that empower its customers to make informed choices. As rightly said “Knowledge is Power” Suryoday's holistic and integrated approach involves customer participation in all its activities for a better impact on their lives. We aim our activities at changing habits and taking up wealth and health seeking behaviour to make their lives better, comfortable and less stressful. We call it “Wealth Seeking” behaviour – empowering them with knowledge to effectively utilize financial institutions, plan their money, save for future. All actions culminating to imbibe in them Wealth Seeking behaviour! Here are some of the Livelihoods & Skills Training Programs conducted this month:

Health Insurance - Awareness Camp (Latur, Solapur) Health Insurance is less known even now, across classes. Clearly, lack of awareness about the same seems to be a major cause. This concern was addressed in Solapur by organizing an informative session for “Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Yojana” on 16

th May 2014. The

district coordinator and district medical officer conducted the session and provided an elaborate set of information to 66 participants gathered to listen the informative session.

Paper Quelling Gift Cards - Skill Training (Shivaji Nagar, Pune) We love gifting on various occasions; however they may be expensive at times! Making gifting cards at home may not be as expensive, though. All it takes is some time of yours to learn the art! A short workshop on “Paper quelling greeting cards and envelops” was conducted in Pune on 23

rd May 2014, with about 25 members

participating in the same.

Cooking Quick Dishes - Skill Training Camp (Barshi, Solapur) How to cook, is not really a question to our women entrepreneurs. How to cook delicious and fast is something that can be learned to improve our business opportunities. This was exactly required by our members, running catering businesses in Solapur. A short training was organized on how to cook simple, delicious dishes in less time on 28

th of May. 44 member participants learned different ways to cook dishes

like, Palak Pulav, Methi Parathe, Fish items and Dhokla. Ummmm Yummy!!!

Childrens Summer Camp (Hadapsar, Pune) It was 28

th of May and it’s vacation for most of the schools. We all know how much

nurturing of children has an impact on them in their adulthood as a person. With an aim to encourage their inherent talents, a one day “Summer Camp” was conducted for children in Hadapsar Pune. 80 children enjoyed the sessions of craft, drawing and educational games and storytelling. Team social is proud to have positively contributed their small bit in shaping our customers' kids development.

“Suryoday Safety Initiative - Helmets”

How does a helmet work? A helmet works exactly like your skull. Made from fiberglass and thermoplastic it acts like a shell for protecting your brain. When the helmet is struck with a hard surface, the inner lining acts as a buffer and absorbs the shock. It bears the sudden change in energy and pressure and keeps the skull intact. Your helmet may crush but it will still protect your skull.

How do you know if the helmet fits you well? Try on the helmet to know if the fit is right. If it is loose and comes off easily from your head, then it will come off at the first impact. If the helmet leaves a mark on your face, when you take it off, that means it is too tight. Select one with a good grip. Tilt your head from side to side, move it up and down, to check the fit. The helmet has to fit snugly on your head. Adjust the straps to achieve the same.

Helmet maintenance Motorcycle riders are generally young and often sole bread-winners of the family. Every time somebody succumbs to an accident, our country loses precious life. A family may lose an entire support system. Beyond economic reasons, there are also emotional threads tied to every individual's life. Simple steps to prevent such tragedies- wear a helmet!

To make optimum use of your helmet, treat it with care. The easy tips given here can help you use your helmet well.

- Get your helmet some fresh air every day and avoid foul odors. - Keep your helmet clean. - Make sure the straps are not worn out, else please change them. - If your helmet has faced an impact, get a new one. - Avoid stuffing things in your helmet. It is not a carry bag. - Take care not to drop your helmet as it might create dents on it. - Keep it away from children.
