ALLEVIATING HUNGER SUPPORTING EDUCATION BUILDING COMMUNITIES

FROM THE Executive DirectorAs a farmer-owned, Fortune 200 food and agriculture cooperative, Land O’Lakes, Inc. works to help solve the global food challenge. Here at home, the Land O’Lakes Foundation strives to fight hunger, support education and strengthen the communities where we live and work.

In 2014, the Land O’Lakes Foundation and Land O’Lakes, Inc. contributed more than $5.3 million—through financial and product donations—to a variety of nonprofit organizations, educational institutions and community initiatives.

We helped feed more people in our neighborhoods by increasing the amount of food grown in our local community gardens, fresh product donations through our First Run Program and financial contributions.

To reinforce our pledge to fight hunger, we have enhanced our partnerships with leading universities to invest in education. We help support and develop students to bring new ideas to address the task of feeding a rapidly growing population.

We believe exceptional companies support their communities to help create a better tomorrow. The Land O’Lakes Foundation demonstrated this throughout 2014, and this report highlights some of the ways we positively impact people in need.

Lydia Botham Executive Director Land O’Lakes Foundation

ALLEVIATING HUNGER

Land O’Lakes, Inc. and the Land O’Lakes Foundation—together with our farmer-owners, employees and community leaders—increased the amount of food we donate to organizations that help the increasing number of Americans who can’t afford to buy food.

Feeding America is the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity, delivering meals to more than 46 million people. We have helped Feeding America continue its mission by partnering with them through our Pin. A. Meal. Give. A. Meal. Pinterest campaign and our First Run Program. For every pinned or re-pinned recipe on our LAND O LAKES® Pinterest board, we donated $1 to Feeding America®. In 2014, we raised more than $300,000, equivalent to 2.7 million meals. Since the campaign began in 2013, the partnership has distributed a total of $550,000 or 4.7 million meals.

Our First Run Program provides fresh product, made by our Land O’Lakes, Inc. plant employees, for donation to food banks across the country. In 2014, we donated a record 440,000 pounds of dairy products to 13 food banks and their partner agencies.

Donating to food banks is one way our farmer-owners and employees give back to their local communities. Through Land O’Lakes Foundation-sponsored food drives, we helped donations go further. Not only did we match gifts of money dollar-for-dollar, we also contributed $1 for every pound of food donated, matching more than 43,000 lbs. in 2014.

We didn’t stop there. We also delivered fresh produce to local food banks through our partnership with the National FFA Organization. Land O’Lakes, Inc. pairs local chapters with WinField® Master Agronomists at Answer Plot® locations in 13 states to plant and grow community gardens, benefiting their local food banks. In 2014, they planted and tended 23 gardens and donated more than 130,000 lbs. of food—or 588,000 servings of fresh produce— to local food banks.Land O’Lakes, Inc. farmer-owners, food

bank staff and community leaders donated 40,000 lbs. of macaroni and cheese to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank in March 2014.

INVESTING IN EDUCATION

Educating students holds the key to feeding the world. These future leaders are developing ways to feed the millions who go to bed hungry every night.

Our Matching Gifts to Education Program offers our farmer-owners and employees the opportunity to donate as much as $2,000 each year to organizations such as public radio and television stations and educational institutions. In 2014, we matched more than $93,000 in donations.

We also expanded our commitment to the University of Minnesota through a 10-year partnership to drive educational excellence and student development programs within the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences, the Carlson School of Management, the College of Science and Engineering and student athletics. The Land O’Lakes Foundation, with Land O’Lakes, Inc., pledged $25 million, payable throughout the next decade, to fund the development of student leaders across these colleges.

Land O’Lakes, Inc. is developing future leaders through its Global Food Challenge Emerging Leaders for Food Security fellowship. Launched in 2014, this internship and development program supports the emerging leaders of tomorrow as they identify ways to meet the world’s need for a 70 percent increase in global food production by 2050. Ten sophomores from the University of Minnesota, Purdue University, Iowa State University, Northwestern University and The George Washington University are taking part in real-world experiences, including meetings with congressional leaders in Washington, D.C. and a food initiative in Africa, to help shape their innovative ideas that may one day help feed the world.

Ninety-eight percent of Americans have no direct connection to the origin of the food they eat. Helping them learn more about and experience their food differently is at the heart of the WinField Crop Adventure, a new exhibit at Fair Oaks Farms in Fair Oaks, Indiana, where visitors can explore family farms and reconnect with nature, animals and our planet. Visitors will get a deeper look into the science, agronomic practices, technological breakthroughs and stewardship programs that have shaped modern agriculture. The exhibit is set to open in Fall 2015.

The Land O’Lakes Foundation supports agricultural education through contributions to colleges and universities including Purdue University and Iowa State University. In 2014, we pledged $1 million for the Agricultural and Life Sciences Building at Purdue University to help build the future of agriculture and $300,000 to Iowa State University to help fund scholarships for future food and agriculture leaders.

PREPARING FUTURE FOOD & AG LEADERS

The Land O’Lakes Foundation supports dairy education by funding the John Brandt Scholarship, created and named in memory of John Brandt, former president of Land O’Lakes, Inc. Graduate students pursuing dairy-related degrees at Iowa State University, South Dakota State University, the University of Minnesota or the University of Wisconsin-Madison, can receive $25,000 scholarships. In 2014, the Land O’Lakes Foundation funded scholarships for three students for their research in dairy production and dairy nutrition.

We work closely with the National FFA Organization to help develop the agricultural skills of the next generation of food and agriculture leaders. Through programs and grants, the Land O’Lakes Foundation committed more than $443,000 in cash and product donations to local FFA® chapters for leadership and hunger initiatives.

BUILDING OUR COMMUNITIES

In December, board members visited Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare in St. Paul, Minn. For the fifth consecutive year, they helped children and their families, who are staying at the hospital for extended periods of time, celebrate the holidays.

As a farmer-owned cooperative, Land O’Lakes, Inc. supports the rural communities where our members live and work. Farmer-owners donated more than $1.3 million to their communities in 2014, an amount matched by the Land O’Lakes Foundation. In addition to supporting hunger-fighting initiatives, these donations helped purchase rescue tubes for local fire departments, playground and technology upgrades for local schools and supplies and equipment for hospitals and clinics.

Member Co-op Match Program

The Land O’Lakes Foundation also gives financial grants to eligible nonprofit organizations based how much time an employee volunteers. Our Dollars for Doers program benefits the organization twice: once from the volunteer’s time and again from a Land O’Lakes Foundation financial match. With help from our volunteers, we donated more than $55,000 to nonprofit organizations in 2014.

As a Disaster Responder corporate leader for the American Red Cross, the Land O’Lakes Foundation pledged more than $250,000 in 2014 to help communities when they needed it the most.

Together with our farmer-owners and employees, the Land O’Lakes Foundation supports our local communities through the United Way. Each year, the United Way giving campaign is one of our strongest philanthropic efforts, and 2014 was no exception. We raised more than $2 million, another record-breaking total.

Land O’Lakes Foundation and corporate board members volunteer their time to help make the world a better place for children in need. At a visit to the Mt. Airy Boys and Girls Club in St. Paul, Minn., board members made updates to the facility’s exterior through landscaping and grounds keeping tasks. They also donated picnic tables and umbrellas so club members can enjoy meals and snacks outdoors.
