2014 NC Electrical Code

110.26(E)(2)(b) Dedicated Equipment Space Outdoors.

The space equal to the width and depth of the equipment, and extending from grade to a height of 1.8 m (6 ft) above the equipment, shall be dedicated to the electrical installation. No piping or other equipment foreign to the electrical installation shall be located in this zone.

310.1.1 Corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST):

CSST gas piping systems shall be bonded to the electrical service grounding electrode system at the point where the gas service enters the building. The bonding jumper shall be not smaller than 6 AWG copper wire or equivalent.

CSST with an arc-resistant jacket listed by an approved agency for installation without the direct bonding, as prescribed in this section, shall be installed in accordance with Section 310.1 and the manufacturer’s installation instructions.

NC Interpretations 210.12(B)Arc-Fault Circuit-Interrupters in Bedrooms of Dwellings (AFCI)

Question: Are lights and smoke detectors, in addition to receptacles, installed in bedrooms of dwellings required to be AFCI protected?

Answer: All branch circuits supplying 15-and 20-ampere, 125 volt, single phase, outlets in dwelling unit bedrooms shall have AFCI protection that provides protection of the entire circuit.

NM Cable Other Than Dwellings

Question:

I have a two story office building permitted to be all wood construction. However, the first floor was designed using all masonry construction just for architectural aesthetic purposes. The inspector is not going to allow Type NM cable now because of the use of concrete and masonry for the first floor. If a building is permitted to be of Types III, IV, or V construction, does it matter what material is used as long as either method is allowed for the entire building?

Answer:

Section 334.10 permits type NM cable to be used in construction where that construction is permitted to be either Type III, IV, or V. Use of masonry on the first floor just as preference does not change that status.
