things you love about the RJO Buying Shows, this year’s event is sure to be a hit!

Show business will be conducted at the Minneapolis Convention Center, a larger facility than the one used on our last trip to the Twin Cities. The Convention Center is a short walk from the hotel, and whether you want to avoid rain or the blistering sun, there’s a skywalk between the hotel and the Center.

Our official host hotel for the There’s No Business Like Show Business show will be the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis, the closest hotel to the Convention Center. Located on Nicollet Mall, the newly renovated Hyatt Regency is in the center of the city’s many attractions – but with a chic restaurant specializing in locally grown and seasonal items, granite baths, a heated pool and a sauna, the Hyatt Regency’s an attraction in itself.

Cancellation NoticeIf you have registered for the show and are unable to attend, you must notify RJO at least seven business days before the event (August 6) to avoid event charges. We also ask that you notify RJO at least seven business days in advance if you are unable to attend any seminars, outings or other events you registered for, but still plan to attend the rest of the show.

Hotel cancellations must be made 24 hours prior to arrival.

Free Room IncentiveRJO will pay for lodging for up to three consecutive nights for all qualifying members at all qualifying hotels. The negotiated RJO rate of $164++ applies to non-qualifying members and/or stays longer than three nights. RJO will not cover suite upgrades or additional persons in the room. Reservations must be made directly through the hotel or online to qualify. You are responsible for making your own reservations.

Photo ID Required To ensure the safety of all of our members, vendors and merchandise, RJO has enacted new security measures which include a photo ID requirement. To get badges and access to the sales floor, all attendees must present a valid photo ID and business card at registration check-in. No one without a photo ID will be granted access to the sales floor.

Our four-person, best ball tournament continues to be fully sponsored by our RJO vendors, so member participation is free. This includes green fees, golf cart, a quality grilled lunch buffet, beverage cart service and prizes.

To confirm a spot in the tournament, please complete the enclosed golf registration form. Indicate if you require transportation and/or rental clubs; RJO will provide both, if needed. See the golf registration form for more information.

NEW RJO IDEA SHARE MEETINGS: “I LEARN BEST FROM OTHER JEWELERS”Facilitated by Barbara Hight-Randall, Kate Peterson and Charlotte PrestonWe’re trying something new this year in response to how often we hear that RJO members truly value the opportunity to learn from each other. In these professionally facilitated sessions, RJO jewelers have the opportunity to be paired with stores of a similar size to share ideas, best practices and discuss hot topics. These will be highly interactive sessions in which the participants choose the discussion topics.

While we all know you can learn something valuable from every conversation, for this evening, we’ll ask you to self-select by the number of employees in your store. Choose the phrase that comes closest to describing your business.

A hosted bar will be provided in each session. Participants must indicate an employee phrase on the registration form to attend this session. RJO will use this information to assign your room.

With this year’s show business theme, we want to welcome you to an evening sparkling with the glitz and glam of old Hollywood! The night’s entertainment will begin with a classic orchestra playing during dinner while we announce the member and vendor winners, transitioning into a Big Band style for dancing.

You’ll be able to continue the night of star treatment at the dressing room-style glam station! Glitzy vanities and mirrors are all around as the ladies can get pampered with classic cat eye eyeliner, faux eyelashes and red lipstick. Don’t worry, we didn’t forget about the men—they, too, can look Hollywood after a slick hair-do and fake mustache. After you get your glamorous Hollywood makeovers, have one of the artists sketch you in a famous movie scene!

KEYNOTE ADDRESS“Leadership That Inspires Excellence”

Presented by Brigadier General Steve Ritchie and Mariana Ritchie The Dean of the Faculty of the USAF Academy in Colorado wrote to General Ritchie in 2013, “You are the embodiment of integrity, service, and excellence that inspire our cadets to

be leaders of character!” Flying for the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War on his second tour of duty in 1972, then Captain Ritchie downed five enemy MIG-21s. He is the only Air Force Pilot Ace in more than 60 years, yet his keynote presentation focuses not on his personal expertise or experience, but on what it takes in commitment, timing, excellence and focus for a Joint Service Team to extract a downed pilot and good friend from his jungle hiding place near the heart of the enemy.

Also, you will hear first-hand of the dreams of a Romanian girl behind the Iron Curtain who longed for freedom in the United States. She will tell how the quest to be free would save her life. She came to America with nothing but a bag of clothes and 25 years later, she would become General Steve Ritchie’s wife.

Joe McCarragher discusses financial management when you own and manage your business. He will focus on knowing your tax structure; understanding your accounting reports; hiring, compensating and general management of staff as part of the financial picture; and succession planning. The session will include an open forum tax deduction discussion. In his practice, Joe has a concentration in local owner-managed businesses and health care physician groups. Joe partners with his clients, such as RJO, to advise them in corporate and personal taxation, tax planning, financial statement review, entity selection, organizational structure and general business advisory services.

Winning Unusually (or What’s Chocolate Got to Do with It?)

For 2013–2014, Max’s was named a Top Ten Designer Retailer by JCK Design Center. In 2011, Max’s was named America’s top Small Cool Store by Instore magazine. People describe Max’s as a great jewelry store, a candy store, a gift store, that chocolate place, a concept store, and the “I’m Sorry, Honey” store.
