WELCOME TO THE OSRBA STATE CONVENTION
The Ohio State Rabbit Breeders would like to welcome you to another outstanding Ohio State Convention and Show at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio. We invite you to take part in the many activities during the Convention starting out Friday night, May 2 with the Judges Conference. Any questions about the conference should be directed to the Judges Conference Chairman, Terry Fender. Saturday May 3rd is loaded with many National, Regional, and State Specialty Shows. Sunday May 4th is our Ohio State Rabbit Breeders State Convention Show with
exhibitors from all over the nation. Be sure to take part in the U.S Meat Rabbit Championship on May 3rd sponsored by Hubbard/Show-Rite Feeds chaired by Terry Grubb and Don Retcher. Our youth activities schedule will be listed in the catalog and includes most of the contests that are held at an ARBA Convention. Any questions please contact Lisa Hoffmann, our youth director, who has our OSRBA youth excelling at the top in the nation. We would like you to join us at 8 AM Sunday morning, May 4th for the opening ceremonies for the Ohio State Rabbit Breeders Show. We will present the youth awards, royalty winners, scholarships, Distinguished Service Awards, and the Hall of Fame at that time. Please be there to receive the awards and congratulate the deserving winners. Thirty minutes after the youth and open Best in Show is selected, we will have the annual Board of Directors meeting. Make sure your member club is represented. Again we will be using the Ramada Plaza and the Motel 6 (formerly the Baymont Inn and Suites) for our host hotels. Contact information will be listed in the catalog. Please book your rooms early as they fill up fast. Be sure to mention the Ohio State Rabbit Breeders to get the excellent reduced rates. This show only happens each year because of the dedicated volunteers who give up their time and effort to make this the best State Convention Shows in the United States. The work to make this cooped show the largest show except for the ARBA Convention, takes a huge effort by our volunteers. The old saying, “ Many hands make the work load lighter”. As always we need help to set up and tear down the cooping, office help, and many other tasks. Anyone handy with wood work, Don Schroeder will be heading up a group to repair damaged bottom boards and judging holding coops. I would like anyone who can help to contact our board members. While a lot of work takes place, I believe we all enjoy knowing that without this effort this show cannot take place. Thanks in advance to all of that help. Please take time to thank these people for their effort and enjoy this year’s show.
Claire Howman
General Chairman

OSRBA MINI CONVENTION DEDICATION
The 2014 OSRBA Mini Convention is dedicated to Claire Howman for all his hard work and dedication for the past fifteen years. Claire has been the OSRBA President for eight years and has spent countless hours traveling, coordinating and negotiating for our Mini Convention. All on volunteer hours! He has promoted the growth in our membership, member clubs and our youth program. His leadership has been a major contributing factor to the financial success of the Ohio State Rabbit Breeders Association.
Claire’s involvement with OSRBA began with setup and teardown assistance in 1999 during the National Mini Lop show hosted at the OSRBA Mini Convention. The OSRBA quickly got him hooked and he became the assistant show superintendent at the 2000 ARBA National Convention in Columbus. In 2001 Claire became the OSRBA Mini Convention show superintendent and continued until 2007 when he became the General Chairman. Claire was elected President of the OSRBA in May 2006 and has maintained that position until the present. His many duties have included Chairman of the Judge’s Selection Committee; Equipment Chairman; Booth Chairman; Hall of Fame Selection Committee; Chairman of the Show Setup Committee; Advertising Committee and Chairman of the Executive Board. He is also a proud member of the OSRBA Hall of Fame and a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. Claire also actively manages the OSRBA equipment and travels with our equipment to national shows and ARBA Conventions. He has supervised our equipment at ten ARBA conventions from 1999 to 2013. With the help of many, he took the OSRBA from almost bankrupt to a sizable treasury. There have been vast improvements to loading equipment trailers during his time as president. This includes a streamline process of loading the judging holes, show tables and the use of new racks helping speed up the loading and unloading process. The new racks help protect the investment of OSRBA’s equipment and helped lower costs of our show’s setup and teardown. Under his guidance, OSRBA has upgraded their equipment trailers to newer used 53 foot trailers to help store and transport our equipment to national shows. Claire Howman has dedicated fifteen years to the OSRBA with a great list of accomplishments. He has dedicated countless volunteer hours, resources and himself to our club. We are proud to dedicate the 2014 Mini Convention in honor of what he has given to us.

Intermediate: 12-14 yrs. of age as of May 4th Junior: 5 – 11 yrs of age as of May 4th
BREED ID - You will identify up to 25 rabbits or cavies. You must state the breed, showroom classification, whether it is a 4 class or 6 class animal, and the registration variety. A separate animal or question will act as a tiebreaker. No abbreviations are accepted. JUDGING CONTEST- You will judge classes of four animals. There will be at least one class of cavies. The breed, sex, and class will be given to you. You will be required to place the animals in order from first to fourth. This is a timed event of 7 minutes per class. Your score will be based on how close your placement is to the placement of the judge who has placed them before the contest. NATIONAL JUDGING TEAM - Youth wishing to be on the Judging Team for Nationals must participate in the Judging Contest on May 4th. If a Youth misses the tryouts, they may ask to be placed on a list for consideration if others that made the tryouts decide not to attend the National Convention. NATIONAL BREED ID TEAM - Youth wishing to be on Breed ID teams for Nationals do NOT have to participate in this contest but scores from this contest will be used to de-termine the teams! We can have unlimited Breed ID teams. These are formed from age appropriate youth from around the state. As many teams as possible will be formed! Those having participated in the contest in May will be guaranteed a spot.
If you have any questions: contact Lisa Hoffmann at 419-343-0818 or [email protected].
If you are attending the 2014 National Convention in Texas and would like to be a member of the Breed ID and/or Judging Team or Jr. Quiz Bowl team please contact Lisa.
