LifeLeSSonSfromapinKribbonWarriortherearemomentsineverylifethattakeusbysurpriseandchallengeusbeyondourlimits,butwesometimesassumethosemomentswillneverhappentous.
onJanuary12,2012,thestrength,faithandlovemyfamilyhasforoneanotherwereputtothetestwheniwasdiagnosedwithinvasiveductalcarcinomacancerofthebreast.iwas34yearsold.hearingthewords“youhavecancer”sentmestraightintosurvivalmode.fearingwhatmykidswouldneverdowithoutme,ibeganmybattlewithaheartofstrengthandtheknowledgethatnothingwouldconquermyspirit.

Sincemydiagnosisi’vebecomepassionateinthefightagainstbreastcancer.Joinedbyfamily,friendsandpeopleibarelyknew,myribbonWarriorsraceforthecureteamraisedover$6,700.itriedallkindsoffundraisingtechniquesandwasmovedbyhowgenerouslypeoplegave.iwroteaLetterofhopeaskingfordonationsandhanddeliveredittomorethan200localbusinesses.ihostedacandleandpursepartyatmyhouse,soldraffleticketsforaquiltmadeinmyhonor,organizedacarwashanddetailedvehiclesoutofmygaragejusttoraisemoney.peopleinmycommunitygottoknowmewhichgavemetheopportunitytohelpotherwomenintheirfightagainstthedisease.Wetalkviatextorfacebookanditrytoinspirethemandgivethemhope.ihavehadabillboardmadeinmyhonor,havebeenrecognizedbynewbalanceformycontributiontosurvivorshipandbytheuSbowlingcongressasamemberofthefabulousfourteamforthebowlforthecure.ifinmyeffortsiaminspiringotherstheniwillcontinueto“payitforward”,becauseonedaytherewillbeanendtothisdiseaseweallknowasbreastcancer.
