HUDSON/KERSEY OPEN HOUSE SUMMARY:
Too much traffic on CR 49
Hazmat traffic concerns
Trucks use CR 49 to avoid US 85 weigh station
Safety concern with intersections 54 /49, 44/49
Sight distance at CR 44 & 49
Want more passing lanes
Noise concerns
Alternate access road between access #s 63‐70
Turn lanes needed on WCR 22 & 49
Install Noise Barriers
Trucks don’t stop coming off of I‐76 onto CR 49, treat it like a free right
Consider frontage roads
Weigh station needed on CR 49
Improve US 85 so it is used over CR 49
Improving CR 49 only makes it more appealing for more traffic
More patrol units needed on CR 49 – Patrol on road needs to increase
Lots of illegal passing
Concern with amount of truck volumes
Lots of tire debris on CR 49
Access pts 165, 166. & 170 – Oil & Field accesses, but according to land owner…ok if combined
into one access.
Bus stop south of access point 172 dangerous
Remove truck traffic – restrict road – too much traffic
Access north of 132 is owner’s pasture access for mowing
Speed should be reduced to 55 mph – what is a safe speed
Is open range on CR 49 still in effect?
Make a toll road east of CR 49 & restrict trucks on CR 49
How will you be responsible for moving fences when you widen the road?
Hard to get on CR 49 from house – too much traffic
Turn lanes, passing lanes from CR 49 onto US 34 (free right onto US 34)
Signal timing long at US 34
Create more passing lanes
Safer passing lanes needed
Commuter traffic on CR 49 travel at high speeds

completed the initial draft of the Weld County Road 49
Access Control Plan. The goal of the plan is to
preserve and enhance the functional integrity of WCR
49 in order to efficiently move people and goods along
the corridor in the safest manner possible.

COMMUNITY GATHERING PROVIDES OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW WCR49 ACCESS CONTROL PLAN
WELD COUNTY, CO – The Board of Weld County Commissioners, along with the communities of Kersey, Hudson and Keenesburg, will be hosting a Weld County Road 49 Access Control Plan Review Meeting on August 28, 2013, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting, which will be held at the Big Foot Turf Farm located at 22455 Weld County Road 49, is an
opportunity for residents along the 49 Corridor to review the access management plan and road improvements proposed by the County.
“The goal of the plan is to preserve and enhance the functional integrity of the road,” said Commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer, who represents the Commissioners on the WCR 49 Advisory Committee. “Last year we met with residents to discuss the needs and issues concerning the 49 corridor. We put those suggestion and needs together in a comprehensive plan that local residents will be able to review before the plan is put into motion.”
The WCR 49 Access Control Plan Policy Advisory Committee, which consists of elected officials from Weld County, Kersey, Keenesburg and Hudson, as well as county staff will be in attendance at the meeting to answer questions about the plan and to provide information about the future of Weld County Road 49.
The Committee will also be honoring those community members who have worked to improve the corridor with “Safety Awards.”
“The 49 Corridor is a major roadway for not only our residents but also for our oil and gas and agricultural industries,” said Hudson Mayor Neal Pontius. “It is important we do what we can to ensure people and goods can move efficiently and safely through this corridor.”
Residents interested in attending should call Francie Collins at [email protected] or call 970-304-6496 ext. 3763 by 5:00 p.m. August 21, 2013.
