Welcome! We are glad you’re here! We invite you to
seek out the folks wearing the “Ask Me” badge.
Through them you will find information about the
ministries of Salem Heights Church and how to
become involved. Please fill out a Visitor Card and drop
it in one of the offering boxes as you leave or scan this code to go
directly to our website and fill out a visitor card. We have an excellent
nursery and programs for children newborn through high school. Any
of the ushers will be happy to direct you to the proper classroom. If
you feel more comfortable having your infant with you during the
service, the last row in the Auditorium will be reserved for parents with
small children. There is a private room for nursing mothers across the
hall from the Auditorium with a rocking chair, changing table and
portable crib. For your convenience, it also includes a monitor to
enable you to still hear and view the service.
Our Purpose...
To reach people with the love of Jesus Christ, provide a safe and
supportive environment, proclaim the standards of God’s truth,
duplicate the Christian life in others, and celebrate the majesty

Giving Update
THE MINISTRY OF SALEM HEIGHTS CHURCH The ministry of Salem Heights Church is funded entirely by the generous giving of God’s people. You will notice that we do not pass the offering plate; however, there are offering boxes in the back of the auditorium. We have done this so no one gives out of compulsion. We believe from the Word of God that the Spirit of God will lead people towards giving back to God of their first fruits. “...God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Cor. 9:7) and we know He blesses those who take His Word seriously in every regard. Thank you for prayerfully supporting Salem Heights financially as we desire to reach the lost and disciple the Saints.

“PICTURES THAT HELP PASS
THE BATON” 2 Timothy 2:1-7
Presented by
Pastor Justin Greene
May 18, 2014
In the late 1800s, a distinguished member of the British
Parliament traveled to Scotland to give a speech. On the
way, his carriage became hopefully mired in the thick mud
of a rural road. A young Scottish farm boy suddenly
appeared on the scene with a team of large draft horses.
He quickly had the carriage out of its dilemma and ready
to resume the journey.
The gentleman insisted on paying the young man, but
the lad refused. He was simply being a good neighbor –
and neighbors help each other out when there is difficulty.
The English lawmaker was immediately taken with the
young man and his attitude.
“Are you sure I can’t pay for your time and effort?” the
gentleman asked.
“Thank you, sir, but it was the least that I could do. It was
a privilege to help such an important person as yourself,”
the boy replied.
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” asked
the man.
“I’d like to be a doctor, but I doubt that it will happen
since my family does not have the money for such
education.”
“Then I will help you become a doctor,” said the
politician.
And as the years went by, the member of Parliament
kept his promise.
Nearly fifty years later, another famous English statesman
lay dangerously close to death due to pneumonia.
Winston Churchill had become ill while attending a
wartime conference, and England desperately needed his
leadership as Hitler threatened to destroy their nation.
Churchill miraculously recovered because his physician
gave him an injection of a new wonder drug called
penicillin. Penicillin had recently been discovered by the
brilliant medical doctor, Alexander Fleming.
Alexander Fleming was the young boy who had pulled
the stalled carriage from the mud. And the man who
promised to return the favor by sending him to medical
school was Winston Churchill’s father, Sir Randolph
Churchill.
Randolph Churchill saw what no one else had seen in
the face of the young Scottish farm boy. He saw potential.
And his commitment to helping that young man reach his
potential saved the life of his own son nearly half a century
later. And by saving the life of Winston Churchill, indeed,
he may have saved all of England.1
NOTICE THIS
• The Great Theologian uses three pictures to describe a multi-
generational ministry.
• Suffer hardship ... nothing worth doing happens without
opposition.
THREE PICTURES
1. Be careful that distraction does not destroy you.
- Roots seek that which satisfies them.
2. How you get to the finish line matters.
- A last minute disqualification can call into question the
whole race!
3. Those on the front lines get the first taste of victory.
- You never reap in the same season that you sow.
WRAP
• Consider what I say, “Are you with me ... or just watching?”
