Ian Coffey enters his second season as the Head Coach of the North Florida swim program after taking over in June of 2014.

The Ospreys made tremendous strides in year one of his tenure including a 118-point improvement (without diving) at the 2014-15 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championships. Under his guidance, a total of 11 swimmers qualified for evening final sessions in 14 different events. At

CCSA Championships, four new times were entered into the school’s all time top-10.

At the conclusion of his first season, seven swimmers were recognized for their work in the classroom garnering CCSA All-Academic honors.

As the head coach at Mansfield, two of Coffey’s swimmers produced qualifying times for participation in the PSAC Championships along with some relay teams.

In addition, Coffey helped guide several Villanova swimmers to BIG EAST championships and NCAA qualifying times. With the Wildcats, he not only coached mid-distance, sprint and stroke groups but also was responsible for recruiting national and international level athletes and served as team’s academic coordinator.

A native of Jenkintown, Pa., Coffey graduated in 1999 from La Salle University with a bachelor’s degree in history. He also holds a master’s in physical education from Virginia Tech (2002). John A. Delaney became the University of North Florida’s fifth president in 2003. In that capacity, he oversees a campus of more than 16,000 students, 600 faculty and more than 1,000 staff. The 1,381 acre campus in Northeast Florida is considered a driver in the region, with an annual economic impact of nearly $1 billion. Each year, 4,000 students graduate from UNF’s five colleges: the Brooks College of Health, the Coggin College of Business, the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Computing, Engineering and Construction and the College of Education and Human Services. Under Delaney’s direction, North Florida reaffirmed its commitment to students, by offering individualized attention and offering transformational learning opportunities. The University of North Florida is also known for its flaGeorgia Southernhip programs, areas where North Florida leads the nation. FlaGeorgia Southernhips include Community Nursing, International Business, Transportation & Logistics, Coastal Biology, Music and Nutrition. UNF is currently undergoing the biggest construction spree in its history. The University recently opened the $86 million Osprey Fountains residence hall, the $50 million Student Union, and the $27 million College of Education and Human Services building. Construction is currently underway on the new Biological Science Building and the Student Wellness Complex. All new construction on campus reflects UNF’s commitment to the environment and many new buildinGeorgia Southern are LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certified. Delaney is considered North Florida’s chief fundraiser, nearly doubling the University’s privately-funded endowment. The Power of Transformation campaign is currently underway, with a goal of raising $110 million. Delaney’s presidency continues a distinguished career as a public servant. He served two terms as mayor of Jacksonville, the country’s 13th largest city, spearheading major initiatives including The Better Jacksonville Plan, a $2.2 billion improvement plan that gave the city new public facilities and other amenities. He also created the Preservation Project, a massive land conservation program giving Jacksonville the distinction of having the largest urban park system in the United States. Prior to that, he served as the chief assistant state attorney, the number two prosecutor for Northeast Florida and as the general counsel for the City of Jacksonville. He has served on numerous non-profit and corporate boards. He and his wife Gena have four children.

lee MOON

Lee Moon was introduced as the University of North Florida’s sixth director of Athletics on Feb. 4, 2009, by UNF President John A. Delaney. Moon took the mantle of Osprey Athletics after serving a five-year stint as Senior Associate Athletics Director at UAB. A veteran of collegiate administration, Moon’s career also features executive level positions with several other universities including: Director of Athletics at Wyoming (1996-2003) and Marshall (1988-96), Assistant Athletics Director (1985-86) and Associate Athletics Director (1986-1988) at Kansas State. While at Wyoming, Moon was responsible for a $15 million budget and helped secure the largest financial donation – $4.3 million for the naming rights of the student-athletic center – in the history of the institution. He also helped secure a $2 million donation at Marshall for naming rights to a similar facility. At Marshall, Moon was responsible for the hiring of basketball coach Billy Donovan, who later went on to win two national championships at Florida, and Dana Altman, the current head men’s basketball coach at Oregon and former Creighton head coach, who led the Blue Jays to the NCAA Tournament seven times. Moon is a graduate of Virginia Military Institute, where he earned a bachelor’s of science degree in history in 1970. While at VMI, Moon was a member of the school’s football team from 1966-1969. He later went on to play semi-pro football for the Roanoke Buckskins before earning his master of education degree at the University of Virginia in 1971. After earning his master’s degree and serving as a graduate assistant coach for the Virginia football team during the 1972 and 1973 seasons, Moon served as an assistant football coach at Duke (1973-76), Virginia (1976-1981), Mississippi State (1982-1984) and Kansas State (1985), where he was named the interim head football coach and also served as the assistant director of operations for the football team. Throughout his career, Moon has served on various NCAA leadership committees such as the Division I Athletic Directors Association Executive Committee, the NCAA Football Issues Committee, as well as serving as chair of the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Committee. At North Florida, Moon succeeded Dr. Richard Gropper, who served as the UNF Director of Athletics from 1994-2009. Upon Moon’s arrival, Gropper took on the role of UNF Director of Athletics Emeritus, serving as a fundraiser for the athletics department.

Director of Athletics | VMI, 1970 Moon married the former Connie Gray in 2005. He has two sons, Lee Jr., who is an assistant basketball coach at UNF, and Brian, who completed his medical school residency at West Virginia University. Moon also has one grandson, Mason. Connie Moon is the mother of four children, Rachael, Rebecca, Charlene and Charlie. Connie Moon also has nine grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Since his arrival on the UNF campus, Moon has set about building a family atmosphere, a focused attention to detail and a total commitment to buidling championship level athletic programs. During his UNF tenure, the Ospreys have already collected several Atlantic Sun Conference championships most recently claiming the Women’s Tennis (tournament), Men’s Tennis (regular season), Softball (regular sason), Men’s Golf and Sand Volleyball (regular season and tournament) in the 2012-13 season. North Florida has claimed 13 conference championships under his leadership. In addition, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams have advanced to the A-Sun Tournament Championship game and the men’s golf team earned a pair of Top 20 finishes at the NCAA Championship. In addition, the Ospreys have finished third in the Bill Bibb Trophy standinGeorgia Southern in the all-sports race among Atlantic Sun Conference teams for three consecutive seasons. The finishes were the highest in North Florida history. His commitment to success has also led the Ospreys to a recent streak of dominance in their crosstown rivalry with Jacksonville University. UNF has claimed the last two years of the SunTrust River City Rumble posting recording setting margins of victory highlighted by the 14.5 to 7.5 score in 2012-13. Moon has helped create an engaging fan-friendly game atmosphere resulting in increased attendances for all of the department’s programs. Under his guidance, UNF added two new varsity programs -- sand volleyball and women’s golf -- along with overseeing upgrades to several of the Osprey’s home venues. In the Spring of 2012, Moon was a part of another shining moment when UNF’s Hodges Stadium hosted the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East preliminary round. In addition, North Florida has been tabbed to again host the East Preliminary in May of 2014.
