As we enter the last few weeks of the year, I would like to take a moment and thank ALL of you who have been so generous in your support of Torrey Pines High School by making a dona-tion to the Support All Students (SAS) fund. The generosity of our community
over the years is much of the reason why TPHS is nationally recognized as a top school.
When you look at the cost of a private school edu-cation and compare that to the quality of the public education and experience your children receive at TPHS, I think you will agree that your donation to TPHS really does go a long way to enhance the environment for ALL our students. If you have not yet donated to SAS this school year, now is a great time and you can reap the benefits of the tax deduction in 2015. Please see pages 6 and 7 in this newsletter for more information on giving levels and our Pathway of Pride paver project.
We also want to make it fun for parents to support the school and hope you will attend our “Toast to Torrey” event on November 14. Invitations were emailed last week and can be found on page 5 of this newsletter. Please RSVP by November 6th if you will attend. This is the kickoff event for our annual “Pump Up The Volume” Live Auction and Dance to be held at the Belly Up in Solana Beach on February 27th! Check out our website at www.torreypinesfoundation.org for a more complete events calendar.
We are all entering a busy time of year for our families and it is a busy time of year on campus as well with many Support All Students programs up and running such as FalconFest, Teacher Class-room Grants, AVID, and the Mentor Program, just to name a few.
I hope to see you around campus, on the sidelines, or at “Toast to Torrey later this month.

On November 17th, the Teacher Classroom Grants team will present participating teachers with their wish list items at a special staff-only assembly before school.
“Our teachers are so appreciative of the parent donations which are used to purchase these items to enhance the learning environment in each classroom,” says Germana Sanna, Teacher Classroom Grants Committee Chair. “This program provides much needed supplies, supplemental learning materials, and equipment to our staff.”
These are materials which are deemed essential for learning by your student’s teachers, but sadly are not provided by the district or through school funds.
If you have not had an opportunity to make a donation for items specific to your student’s classrooms, please visit the Foundation website at www.torreypinesfoundation.org and
click the link for Teacher Classroom Grants.
You can also print out the forms on pages 8 and 9 of this newsletter and mail them in with your donation, drop them off in the office, or make a donation online with your credit card by going to the Foundation website. Just click the SUPPORT ALL STUDENTS button, scroll down to the Classroom Grants section, and enter the amount you would like to do-nate under each section of Teacher Classroom Grants.
Your support will put a smile on your teachers’ faces and will provide important learning materials for every student.
TEACHER CLASSROOM GRANTS PRESENTATION
The Torrey Pines High School Foundation Auction Com-mittee is in the early planning stages for the annual online silent auction and fund raiser event to be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Belly Up in Solana Beach.
Committee members will be can-vasing the community reaching out to individuals and businesses to secure event sponsors as well as donated items to be auctioned off to raise money for the Support All Students fund. This year’s focus is to fund all Foundation projects including FalconFest 2015, Staff & Student Anti-Bias Training, the PALS program, classroom technology needs, and the new Engineering and Robotics courses at TPHS, just to name a few.
According to Bobbi Karlson, Foundation Executive Director, the committee is getting an early start because the big event is earlier this year. “Due to venue and sched-uling issues, we have moved PUMP UP THE VOLUME to February 27, which is nearly a month earlier than previous years,” states Karlson. “We have a highly motivated com-mittee that is ready to hit the ground running to make our biggest fundraiser of the year a fun and successful event”.
“We are excited to announce that Resurrection Radio, a local classic alternative cover band featuring two TPHS Class of 1986 alums, including former TPHS Assistant
Principal Rob Coppo, will be per-forming,” states Helen Nordan, Event Chair. “This is our largest fund raiser of the year as well as a wonderful social evening for the entire TPHS community,” continues Nordan.
.The kickoff event for the spring fund raiser is “Toast to Torrey” which will be held at a home in Rancho Santa Fe on November 14,
2016 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. More information about the Toast is on page 5 of this newsletter. Please RSVP for this fun informal evening by November 6.
The online auction will begin on February 5, 2016 and will feature a wide array of items for the home as well as gift certificates for academic support, restaurants, beauty salons, spa services, and vacation and entertainment packages, just to name a few.
If you are interested in helping plan the event or would like to be an event sponsor or donate an item for the live or online auctions, please contact Holly Coughlin at [email protected].

FALL VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Germana Sanna & Lisbeth Marks Germana and Lisbeth have both been involved with
many things on campus during their me at TPHS. One
of their roles is serving as co chairs for the Teacher Class‐
room Grants program. We asked them to tell us a li le
bit about their volunteering at Torrey Pines High School.
Lisbeth, what do you love most about volunteering at
TPHS? “What I love most about volunteering is knowing
that I am helping the TPHS family of teachers and
students in making sure that everyone has the best
possible experience as a Falcon!”
Germana, why do you volunteer? “Volunteering gives
me a sense of belonging and purpose like no other. It has
been a most rewarding experience to help TPHS and the
Falcon Family in different ways over the years and I will
be forever grateful for those opportuni es.”
Germana, do you have a favorite volunteer ac vity? “I
have truly enjoyed helping with Teacher Classroom
Grants because it not only provides important tools for
our TPHS teachers and classrooms, but also helps me feel
connected to the needs of the TPHS community. I have
also enjoyed helping with our academic and sports
teams. All of these programs are a clear representa on
of how strong TPHS is in both academics and athle cs
and I am very happy to have had the opportunity to
support and help with all of them.
Lisbeth, What makes you most proud about being a
Falcon parent volunteer? I am proud to be an ac ve
par cipant in making the TPHS
experience the best that it can
be for not just my daughters
but for EVERYONE in the TPHS
Falcon family!
Thanks for all you do,
Germana and Lisbeth!
