ASH ARTWORK AT HAASE’SHaase’s Shoe Store & Young Folks Shop on Oak Street has some new artwork, thanks to Amelie Seemann ‘21. Amelie painted a ceiling tile to represent Sacred Heart as part of Haase’s collection of tiles for New Orleans schools. Be sure to check it out next time you’re in the neighborhood!

APPLAUSE

Junior and senior Peer Support leaders participated in an intensive training on August 21, where they heard from psychologists Dr. Kristin Callahan and Dr. Amy Dickson from LSU about reflective listening. The Sacred Heart Peer Support Program provides for the selection, training and weekly supervision of junior and senior stu-dents who have the opportunity to assist in the development of the personal awareness skills of eighth grade students as they encounter the challenges of adolescence. Small groups meet monthly with two or three older students to discuss topics pertinent to the age group.

GAMBIT BEST OF NEW ORLEANS 2015Thank you, ASH community, for voting Sacred Heart in Gambit’s Best of New Orleans. We landed #2 for Best Nursery/Preschool and #3 for Best Grammar School in the Greater New Orleans area.

VOLLEYBALL TEAM HOSTS DUCHESNEThe volleyball team hosted our sister from Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart from Houston, who participated in the Stanley W. Ray Varsity Volley-ball Tournament held at ASH on September 11-12. Duchesne’s team arrived that Friday afternoon, and the Rosary girls gave them a tour of our facilities. The girls shared stories about the traditions, goals and their similar uniforms, and they bonded over a joint tailgate on Saturday.

GOLF AWARDSSacred Heart golf was well-represented at the Kelly Gibson Junior Golf Tour awards banquet at the Hilton Riverside over the summer. Madeline Boudreau ‘19,Marcelle Holmes ‘18 and Cassidy Lambert ‘21 all finished in the top three of their respective age categories for the summer tour season. Congratulations!

Sacred Heart Dads!

“Be who God intended you to be and you will set the entire world on fire!”

Those words by St. Catherine of Siena, a great Doctor of the Church, are entirely inspir-ing. Why? Put simply there is really no better way to set the world on fire than to be a dad, and that’s who we are. That’s who God meant us to be, and that—in the grand scheme of things—is the best way we can set the world on fire.

We might all do well to reflect every now and then—I know I would—on just how strong of an influence we exert on our daughters by simple actions, by merely everything we say and everything we do in the course of a regular day.

Our daughters are watching us. I don’t know for sure how, but our daughters do in fact know the extent to which are involved.

Our first Fathers’ Club meeting last night was so much fun. Special thanks to A.J. Lulich and his crew for providing steaks, which has become a great Fathers’ Club tradition. New Orleans’ great Ed Daniels, sports director of WGNO, joined us us for fun and conversation around his lifelong passion of local sports. He offered his unique insight into Tulane, LSU, Saints and all things athletic.

Be an active dad. Come to the next meeting. Your daughters are watching and will appreciate it. Mark your calendar now for Wednesday, October 14 at 5:30 p.m.

Yours always,

Vince LibertoFathers’ Club President

P.S. I also ask that you mark your calendars now for Friday, November 13 and be ready for a good time at English Turn for the golf tournament, whether you play or not, we want you there…for fun and friendship.

HEARTS & COMMUNITY

ASH Summer Camp partnered with St. Stephen’s School to offer one-week camp scholarships to two St. Ste-phen’s students selected by the school. The two children had a wonderful experience at the ASH Summer Camp. This will be a yearly offering and an ongoing partnership with St. Stephen’s.

ASH SUMMER CAMP & ST. STEPHEN’S SCHOOL

Samuel J. Green Charter School held their Academic Leadership Workshop at ASH while their campus was under renovation this summer. We offered the Whitney Conference Room to twelve of their school leaders for two weeks of meetings and planning for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year. Be sure to notice their renovated campus when passing on Valence Street. They are great partners!

SAMUEL J. GREEN CHARTER SCHOOL

On August 13, ASH welcomed 140 guests to our assembly room for Dinner Lab, a membership-based social dining experiment that explores innovative ideas in food in unique spaces that would not otherwise be known to the public. Several ASH parents, faculty, staff and alumnae were present, including 2014 Distinguished Alum, Nell Nolan. Two Dinner Lab memberships will be up for grabs at our upcoming auction, The Big Band Bash – A Night in the 40s, at the National World War II Museum on October 2.

DINNER LAB

More than 50 Upper School students, faculty and staff participated in the City Wide Day of Service to com-memorate the tenth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. ASH partnered with City Park to clear trails and make paths in the park, joining hundreds of volunteers from various schools and agencies around the city to show commitment to our city’s beautification as well as remember the devastation caused by Katrina.

KATRINA 10 CITY WIDE DAY OF SERVICE

Did you know that Sacred Heart has been developing a multi-faceted outreach program and partnerships based on the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools? We’ve had a lot going on with the community that we want to share with you as we continue to develop our community outreach program.
