• Considerationwasgiventohistoricpreservation,thusthephotodatabasealsoincludesscansofveryoldand/orimportantitems,includingoursacredvessels

• Sorteditemsbytypeintothevariouscabinets

• Rearrangedthecabinetsinamoreworkableformation

Wearecurrentlyworkingonindividualstorageandlabelingofitemstomakethemeasilyaccessible.HeatherhasanexternalharddrivededicatedtotheArchives,fromwhichshecancallupphotostoprint,orthelocationofaniteminthefiles.Thedatabasewillbetweakedaswecompletethesorting,andgoingforward,itemscanbeaddedastheyareacquired.APowerPointofthe5-yeartransformationisstillavailableforindividualsorgroupstoview.

Buildings&Grounds

In2015anextensiveremodeloftheFiresideroomtranspired.AcampaignwascreatedtoraisemoneytotransformtheFiresideroomintotheLarsonFiresideRoominhonorofJanLarson.JanledourfamousFruitcakeProjectformanyyearsanditseemedfittingtonametheroomafterher,herhusbandDeanandtheirfamily.Acommitteecametogethertoselectfurnishings,paintcolors,lightfixturesandmoretoadvancetheappearanceoftheoncedated-lookingroom.ThankyoutoKellieMueller,DanLachanceandJoyeGoblirschforleadingtheeffort.Andthankyoutoallcommitteemembersforyourvaluableinput.Columbarium

OasisGarden

ThankyoutothemanyvolunteersanddonorsthisyearthatmadeourOasisGardenagifttothecommunity-aplaceofcalm,beautyandhealinginbusydowntownRochester.ItisonewaythatweexpressCalvary'smission(Tobeaspiritualoasiswhereallarehealed,transformed,andempoweredtoserveGodthroughcultivatingtheirGod-givengifts.)TherewereseveralspecialprojectsdoneintheOasisGardenthisyear.

• Extensiverepairoficedamagetobrickandconcreteofthehandicaprampwasdone,andtheramp'srailingwassandblastedandrepainted.

• TheColumbariumbencheswererealignedtofacilitateflowofpeopleduringburialservices.RemoveddeadshrubsandmovedelectricaloutlettotheColumbariumwall.Re-sodded.Plantedhydrangeasateitherendofthewall.

• Plantednativeplants(featherreedgrass,bluestem,black-eyedsusan,purpleconehead)onwestsideofchurch,intheareasthatnolongerhavesprinklers,duetothewaterremediationwork.

• PlantedayoungBurOakthatcandothejobofourgiantElmwhentheElmisgone(wehopemanyyearsfromnow).

Severalyearsago,CalvarycontractedwithBrandhoot,alocalcompanyspecializinginstrategicdigitalsolutions,torevampourwebsitesothatstaffmemberscouldupdateandenhanceourwebsiteontheirown.Shortlythereafteritwasdecidedthatanewsitedesignwasinorder.AfterapprovalfromtheAdminCoreandVestryandwithinputfromvariousstaffmembersandparishioners,HeatherMcEldowneyupdatedourwebsitein2015.Withafreshlookandamoderndesignwearenowengagedin21stcenturytechnology!Checkusoutatwww.calvary-rochester.org.

HabitatforHumanityGiftWrapping–CoordinatedbyKimWiseman

• Calvary’sdaytowrapgiftsatApacheMallwasSunday,December13.• Twelvemembersofthecongregationparticipatedingroupsoffourtocoverthethree,three-hourshifts.• HabitatcontinuestoraisethousandsofdollarseachyearbyprovidingthegiftwrappingserviceatakioskintheMall

duringtheholidays.MoneyraisedgoestohelpbuildhomesforneedyandqualifyingfamiliesinRochesterandsurroundingcommunities.

• $10,587.52wasraisedatthisyear’sannualgiftwrappingeventwiththesupportandhardworkofcommunityvolunteersincludingCalvary.

TheFellowshipCorewasestablishedin2015.EstablishmentoftheCorewillcentralizeandorganizeparishfellowshipactivities.TheCoreaimstoencouragebroadparticipationinFellowshipCoreactivitieswhichwillpromoteinclusionandknowledgesharing.Fellowshipaboundsyear-roundatCalvaryEpiscopalChurch!In2015theFellowshipCoreorganizedthefollowingactivities:Feb28–CruiseNightwasanall-ageseventinwhichthechurchwasdecoratedasaPiratesoftheCaribbean-themedcruiseship.Activitiesincludedchildren’sgames,tattoos,islandfood,tropicalentertainment,andamagicshow.Apr4–AgapeMealwasaflavorfulfeastthatgaveusanopportunitytogatherinBrackenridgeHallandbreakbreadtogetherincelebrationoftheResurrection.Sep13–All-ParishPicnicwasanopportunitytomarktheendofthesummerseasonandenjoyfellowshipinourbeautifulOasisCourtyard.Dec13–ChristmasParty/ChurchGreeningisalong-standingCalvarytradition.TheCalvarySundaySchoolstudentsdecoratedtheChristmastreeinBrackenridgeHall.Parishionersateahotchililunchbeforedecoratingthechurchwithfestivegreenery.Dec31–NewYear’sEveDanceisanintergenerationaldanceparty.Thepartystartsat6pmandendsat8pm.At6pmthegrandfatherclockissetto10pmsothatat8pmweringintheNewYear.DJDinoKaneplaysmusicforallages.Parishionerssnackonhorsdoeuvresanddesserts.Winter–SpringFriendshipDinnergroupsmetmonthlymid-winterthroughlatespring.Approximatelyfifteencouplesparticipated,eachhostingotherparticipantsonceintheirhomesforfriendly,potluckstyledinnerparties.Onceagain,thevenueprovedtobeagreatwayforparishionerstobecomebetteracquaintedoutsideofSundaymorningworship.Thecommitteecontinuestomakeanefforttogroupcouplesandindividualswhotypicallydon'tattendthesametimeworshipservice,allowingmorediversefriendshipgroups.

FaithFormation CynthiaHeins,ChairpersonSundaySchool:OurSundaySchoolsenrollmentisupto106forthe2015-2016programyearfrom98studentsenrolledtheprioryear.WehavefiveSundaymorningclasses,andouraverageattendanceistypicallyinthemid-seventieseachweek.OursupportgroupforSundaySchoolalsocontinuestogrowas7ofour18volunteerteachersarenewforthe2015-2016programyear.OurfiveSundaymorningclassesinclude:GodlyPlayI(Ages3–Kindergarten),GodlyPlayII(1st-2nd),Connect(3rd-5th),Re:Form(6th-8th),andHighSchool(9th-12th).Sarahcontinuedwiththenewcurriculumsthatwereintroducedintheyoungerfourclassesoverthelasttwoyears.Weaddedabout8newstoriesineachGodlyPlayroom,andwepurchasedyeartwooftheConnectCurriculum.Ongoingcoststocontinuethesecurriculumswillnowbegintodiminishaswehavefullsetsofthecorecurriculumsandneedonlytomaintainworkbooksandsuppliesforeachstudent.TheHighSchoolclasswasreworkedverysuccessfullywithnewleaders,curriculum,andmeetingspace.Attendancenowaveragesaround9-10studentsperclass.UnderJillandTravisAmundson’sleadership,thisclassfocusedspecificallyonconfirmationpreparationinanticipationofBishopBrian’svisitonJanuary10th,2016.WecreatedourownconfirmationseriesbypairingAnimatevideos(bySparkhouse)withthechaptersofMyFaith,MyLife(byJenniferGamer).Sarahalsocontinuedtobuildintentionalconnectionsbetweentheparentstheclassrooms.SheexpandedherweeklyemailprogramtoincludeoneforeachofthefiveclassesaswellastheFusionyouthgroup.ParentsandteachersnowreceivedanemaileveryThursdaythatincludesavideooftheupcominglesson,ashortsynopsis,andtipsforcontinuingtheconversationathome.VacationBibleSchool(VBS):WehadaverysuccessfulVBSprogramthissummerfromAugust17-20.Wehad32participantsagesthreethroughfifthgrade.Additionallywehad8middle&highschoolvolunteers,and11adultvolunteers.Allofouractivities,games,andcraftswerecenteredaroundthetheme“Pilgrimage:TravelingwiththeSaintsthroughGod’sAmazingWorld.”CurriculumfromLeadershipResourcescalled“Pilgrimage:SeekingtheKingdom”waspurchasedforthisVBS.EachdayourVBSparticipantstraveledbackthroughtimetoexperiencethestoriesofseveralChristiansaintsfromIreland,Spain,Italy,andScotland.SeveralstudentscommentedthatthiswastheirfavoriteVBSyet!FUSION:FusionisnowintoitssecondyearasacombinedyouthgroupbetweenCalvaryandSt.Luke’sEpiscopalchurches.Itmeetsonthe2nd&4thSundaysfrom6:00-7:30,andalternateslocationsbetweenthetwochurches.SarahBarnettandSarahMartinak(F.F.Dir.atSt.Luke’s)havecontinuedtoworktogethertoplanandfacilitatetheFusiongatherings.Fusionhasabout20studentsparticipatingwithanaverageattendanceof10-12.Onthe2ndSundaysofeachmonth,wefocuson“reachingin”wherewefocusonnamingourgiftsandgrowingoursenseofcalling.Onthe4thSundaysofeachmonth,wefocuson“reachingout.”Thisiswhereweactuallygetoutthereandpartnerwithlocalserviceagenciestomakeanimpactandbuildrelationships.WehavemademealsfortheDorothyDayhouse,plannedfundraisersforaschoolinHaiti,andmore!TeensEncounterChrist(TEC):TECisanEpiscopalretreatweekendforHighSchoolStudents.TECisrunbyyouthwhohavebeenthroughTECbefore,andadultleaderssupporttheirefforts.TECgoesthroughHolyWeekin48hrsallthewhilesharingstories,eatingmeals,makingmusic,andencounteringsomefantasticsurprises.TEChappenstwiceyearlyinOctoberandMarch.Thisyearin2015,wehadsevenhighschoolstudentsparticipateinboththespringandfallTECretreats.OurownEmmaEhlingwasaskedtobeofthetwoyouthdirectorsforthefallTEC!TECisanever-growingepiscopalcommunityofpeoplefromaroundthestatewhocontinuetostandbyoneanotherdayinanddayout.Calvarylooksforwardtobeingapartofthisincredibleministryformanyyearstocome,andtheGreaterMNTECcommunityisexcitedtoincludeCalvaryinitsregularrotationofhostsites.Pre-TECRetreats:OurFaithFormationDirector,SarahBarnett,hasbeeninstrumentalinlaunchingaseriesofPre-TECretreatsformiddleschoolstudents.TheseretreatsarecollaborationbetweeneightEpiscopalchurchesacrossMinnesota,andeachretreathasgrownandbroughtalongwithitnewpartnerparishes.OurPre-TECretreatsmeettwice

annuallyinNovemberandApril.EachPre-TECretreatfocusesononeoftheTECtalkthemes.In2015wehadjustoverthirtystudentparticipants(tenfromCalvary)atbothretreats.TheAprilretreatwascalled“WhatisHoly?”,anditwashostedbySt.Luke’sEpiscopalChurchinMinneapolis.TheNovemberretreatwascalled“MadeinGod’sImage,”anditwashostedbySt.Luke’sEpiscopalChurchinRochester.Eachretreatincludestalkstohelpsparkdiscussionfromhighschoolstudentsaswellasgames,snacks,prayerstations,andmuchmore!

AdultEducation&theFormationoftheAdultFaithFormationTeam(AFFT):BeginninginJanuaryof2015,SarahBarnettdirectedhercreativefocusonenhancingCalvary’sAdultEducationofferings.ThisbeganwithavisioningmeetingonJanuary11thwherefifteenadultsgatheredtocastamission,vision,andstrategy.Wealsoendedupclarifyingthenameofthisprogram.Ourdiscussionyieldedthesubtitle“AdultEducation:FoodfortheJourney.”Thisnamekeepstheclaritywhileofferingmorespecificityastoourgoal.

Mission:TobuildauthenticconnectionswithGod,oneanother,andourselves,aswejourneytogetherinthemysteryofourfaithforwhateverliesahead.

Vision:Toofferopportunitiesforgrowthforallwherevertheyareontheirspiritualjourney.

Strategy:Toofferlargegroup,experientialworshipspacesinadditiontoCalvary’salreadythrivingsmallgroups,forums,andfellowshipgatherings.

OurfirststrategywastoofferanexperientialLentenserieswherewecombinedspiritualpracticeswithalternativeworshipservicessuchasComplineandTaizé.OurfirstAdultFaithFormationTeam(AFFT)memberswereSarahBarnett,PennyDuffy,JulieRoenigk,PhilKarsell,BarbaraToman,andTravisAmundson.Thesegatheringswerewelllikedandwellattendedwith20-30people.TheTaizéservicereceivedthemostpraise.Basedonthispositivefeedback,weofferedaJuneTaizéservicetoclosetheprogramyear,andwealsoofferedaSeptemberTaizéservicetoopenthenewprogramyear.WiththesuccessfullaunchofaTaizéprogram,wedecidedinthefallof2015toreworkthemembershipoftheAFFT.TheAFFTwasformallyincludedasacommitteeoftheFaithFormationCore,andbydefinitionitisateamthat’smembershipwillebbandflowasittakesonvariousprojectstomeettheever-growingneedsoftheAdultEducationprogrammingatCalvary.ThesecondmembershipoftheAFFTthatformedinthefallof2015nowincludesSarahBarnett,BenScott,SallyScott,PhilKarsell,andStephanieBarsness.Ben,Sally,andPhilwerealsoinvolvedinthepreviousFrontiersofFaithGroup,andhopedtofindnewavenuesforadultsatCalvarytoconsiderlife’sbig,unanswerablequestions.Togetherweplanneda“BigQuestions”seriestodoonSundaymorningsduringthe10:00hourwhentherewasnotanAdultForumscheduled.Wealsocallthis“BigQuestions”series“10@10:10,”astherewillbe10discussionsthroughoutthe2015-2016programyearandourstarttimeis10:10.Thesemember-leddiscussionswillbeginwithapersonalstoryfromthefacilitatorandincludeafewrelevantresourcesleaving30minutesforgroupconversation.BenScottledourfirstBigQuestiondiscussiononDec.6,andhisfocuswasongreedwiththequestion,"Howdoesgreedbyadominantcultureeruptintoviolentconflict?"AlexAlexanderledoursecondBigQuestionlastweekonDec.20,andhisfocuswasonculturaldiversitywiththequestion"Howdoesculturaldiversitydrawusevenclosertogether?"WednesdayMorningSmallGroup:TheWednesdayMorningSmallGroupmeetsfrom9:30to11:15onthefirstandthirdWednesdayofeachmonth.Discussionsarebasedonselectedbooksfocusingoninterpretationsofscriptureandotherissuesoffaith.Mutualsupportthroughprayerandfellowshipisamajoraspectofthelifeofthisgroup,whichhasgrownto11members.Contact:BarbaraToman.AdultForum:Asmallgroupofparishionersmettobrainstormideasforforums,takingplacetwiceamonththroughouttheschoolyear.Averageattendancehashoveredbetween15-30.AdditionalforumideaswereprovidedbymembersoftheFaithFormationCore.2015-16topicsfocusedonservicetoselfandcommunity.Committeememberscontacted,scheduled,andhostedthevariousspeakers.OtherSundaysincludedscheduledactivitiesforadultspertainingtotheseasonandactivitiesofthechurchandanew“10@10:10”discussions.Contact:ElizabethKarsell.CenteringPrayer:TheCenteringPrayergroupmetonthefirstandthirdWednesdaysat12:15forourtimesofcommunity-sharedsilence.Thisyearweaddedasecond20-minutemediationtimetoextendourwelcometootherswhomightwanttojoinusfromthedowntownareaduringtheirlunchbreakatwork.OurgroupconsistsofpeoplefromCalvaryaswellasthreeotherchurches.Manyofusgatherat11:30forasacklunchwhichhasincreasedourfellowship.

EmmaandIweretheonespainstakinglyfiguringoutthedoorknobissue(think18+tries),andrightwhenwethoughtwefinallyhadit,welockedourselvesin!Wehadacellphone,butwecouldn'tmanagetocallforhelpforabouttenminutestillwecouldstoplaughing.Ha!Intheeveningwepaidalocalartisantocometeachhowtomakerealdreamcatchers.Itwasfantastic!”Day4–“Todaywasanothermulti-projectday!Weassembledadonatedbasketballhoop(wayharderthanthedoorknobs!!),tiedtherebarforthecementslab,andbuiltacabinetforMotherLauren'srectory.Weendedournightbyputtingupahugetarptocovertheholeforthecementtomorrowmorningasrainisintheforecast.Thereisaongoingstoryaboutthiscabinet.Lauren'ssermonwasabouthowsheloves"prrrrretty"things(notperfectthings),andhowGoddoestoo.Sowehaveasecretplantomakethiscabinet"prrrretty"!Then,totopoffthesurprise,someonefromCalvarymadeasignificantanonymousdonationtotheRosebudEpiscopalMission.TrinityChurchhaswhattheycallthe"bluebucket"fundforkeepingupthechurchandtherectory,andrightnowthebluebucketmoneyisbeingusedtopayoffaninterestfreeloanfromthediocesetakenoutthisyeartopayforanelectricalrepairandnewcarpet(think50yroldhotpinkshag).Theyhaveabout$1700leftonthatloan,andthisdonationwilltakecareofthatplussome.MoLo(aswecallMotherLauren)isamazing-inhertwoyearshereshehasbroughtHabitatforHumanitybacktosolvency,andhasfoundaway(fleamarkets,etc.)topaybackallloanstothedioceses.That'swhyshegetsinterestfree.Sheistherealdeal,andwearesothrilledtogiveherthiswonderfulsurprisetomorrownight.WewillhidethebluebucketwithanoteaboutthecomingdonationinsidethenewcabinetthatSarahispaintingtoday.”Day5–“Todaywepouredthecementslab--INATHUNDERSTORM!Thankfullytherainhithardestliterallyfiveminutesafterwefinishedpouringsowecouldatleastbrushthewateroff.Itwasateameffort,andIhavesomegreatvideomaterialforamovie!IntheafternoonwetouredtheeightEpiscopalchurchesonRosebud.Weheardboththehistoryandthepresentministryofeach.Intheevening,SageFastDogcametotellusaboutSunDances.Hegaveaverymovingandinspiringandrelatablepresentation!EmmaandIalsomadeprogressonthecabinetthatwearepaintingforMotherLauren.Thebigrevealistomorrow!Weallcan'twait!!”Day6–“Everydayofthistriphasgottenbetterandbetterandyesterdaywasmountaintop.Wefinishedupseveralprojectsinthemorning-splittinglogsforfamiliesinthewinterwhenthepropanerunsout,wettingthefreshconcrete,clearingbrush,andpaintingMoLo'snewcabinet.AfterdinnerwerevealedthecabinetaswellasasignificantdonationfromCalvary(whichweputonanoteinthecabinet).Wehadjustfinishedhearingabouthowneededthelogswerethatwehadsplitinthemorning(familiesoftenresorttoburningtheiroldclothestokeeptheirtrailerswarminthewinter),anduponseeingthecabinetandthegiftMoLoexclaimed(throughtears)"They'llbewarmandfed!"MoLotalkedtousforoveranhourafterwardsabouthowimportantitisforustogooutandsharetheLacota'sstory.Thisweekwasavocation,notavacation.ItwasprobablythemostinspirationspeechI'veheardinalongtime(andIlistentoalotofpodcasts!!).Ivoicerecordedit,andameagertoshareinsomeform.MoLomustliterallybeagenius-sheissosmart,capable,knowledgeable,loving,andexactinginherpassion.Nothingandnoonegetsthroughthecracks.”MissionTripReflection,byEmmaEhling(Grade11)
