Welcome! We’ve definitely earned the celebration that is Capital Pride 2015.
Momentum for equality across the state of North Dakota has never moved more quickly than it has during the last year. More supporters, more public allies, and more people finding the common ground to see we aren’t that different after all. We’ve seen a surge of allies from the business and nonprofit sectors, standing beside us, calling for the need to do more to protect our LGBTQ family, friends, employees, neighbors, and fellow citizens.
Dakota OutRight has also seen tremendous change. We’re growing in the resources and services we provide to LGBTQ people and the community at large. We provide public education and outreach, and more people than ever are contacting us for information. In addition, we are working to develop more resources and supports for LGBTQ youth and those who work with them, including community youth workers and educators.
Capital Pride 2015 is packed full of events just for you, our supporters. Make sure not to miss the Pre-Pride celebration at Laughing Sun Brewing on Sunday, June 14. We’re ready to tap the commemorative beer and welcome Pride week with open arms (and gullets). The weekend of June 19-21 brings our headlining events, including the Riverboat Social Cruise, Pride in Custer Park, the Dakota Divas Drag Show, an Interfaith Service, and a free screening of PRIDE at Dakota Stage. Most events are free, but don’t wait to get tickets for the Riverboat Social Cruise and Dakota Divas.
How can you be a part of something bigger? Help us however you can, whether that’s becoming an official member of Dakota OutRight, volunteering, or joining our board. We’re waiting for you!
Though the pursuit of equal protections still continues in many of our cities and in our state as a whole, we remain hopeful. Philosopher David Orr said, “Hope is a verb with its shirtsleeves rolled up.” Success requires hard work and persistence.
We stay ready to work for you.

1:30PM -4:30 PM Screening of PRIDE Film and Community Panel DiscussionFREEWe’re partnering with Dakota Stage Ltd. to bring a FREE screening of PRIDE to Bismarck-Mandan. Doors open at 1 p.m. and the film will begin at 1:30 p.m., with a panel discussion immediately following. Concessions will be available for purchase.
From CBS Films: “PRIDE is inspired by an extraordinary true story. It’s the summer of 1984, Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers is on strike, prompting a London-based group of gay and lesbian activists to raise money to support the strikers’ families. Initially rebuffed by the Union, the group identifies a tiny mining village in Wales and sets off to
make their donation in person. As the strike drags on, the two groups discover that standing together makes for the strongest union of all.”
This event is made possible with financial support from the ND AFL-CIO, the Missouri Slope Central Labor Council, and Dakota Stage Ltd.
