Now in its 66th year, the OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE continues to build on the success that has made it the nation’s eighth-oldest NCAA Division I conference. In May of 2011 the OVC added Belmont University which necessitated a break into two six-team east/west divisions as the OVC now has 12 members, the most the league has had at one time in its illustrious history. The move added a second team in the city of Nashville and was the first addition to the league since SIU Edwardsville joined in 2008. The OVC sponsors the following sports: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, tennis and track for men, and basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and volleyball for women. In addition, the OVC also sponsors the combined men’s and women’s sport of rifle. Now in its seventh decade of competition, the OVC has grown significantly from its humble beginnings while increasing the number of athletics opportunities it provides for students. Current league representatives include charter members Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State and Murray State, along with Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, Jacksonville State, Southeast Missouri, SIU Edwardsville, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin. Belmont University became the league’s 12th member back on July 1, 2012.

Eastern Illinois is one of the few schools in the region to have both indoor and outdoor facilities located on campus. The Panthers play their home matches on Rex Darling Courts (pictured above) which were constructed in the late 1990’s to include six modern outdoor tennis courts and had a complete resurfacing update in the summer of 2014.
In addition, EIU tennis also has use of the Lantz Indoor Fieldhouse (pictured below) which includes five courts for practice and match competition. While also the home of Panther indoor track and field, EIU tennis squads are given ample time on the indoor courts allowing them to practice and compete at any time of the year.
When necessary, Panther tennis can also utilize additional nearby indoor tennis facilities located in nearby Danville and/or Terre Haue, Ind., as well as the local Charleston HS outdoor courts, as necessary.
