Our TeachersHaving a recognised diploma-level qualification inteaching English to speakers of other languages is arequirement for our year-round teachers. In addition tothis, they will also have extensive teaching experiencein a variety of professional areas. It is a minimumrequirement that teachers have either the CambridgeESOL CELTA or Trinity College TESOL Certificate. Teachersare also expected to have a degree level qualification.

Within our long-term team, a number of teachers haveMAs in TEFL, others have qualified teacher status (QTS)and some have specialist subject qualifications. Asubstantial number of our teachers have specialresponsibilities according to their own interests andareas of expertise.

CertificatesOn satisfactory completion of the course, students willreceive the Anglo-Continental Certificate of Studies.On successful completion of the Academic StudyProgramme, the Anglo-Continental Diploma in Englishis also awarded at the appropriate level.

Our Intensive courses have established the firm foundation on which all our teaching is based. Theyoffer a choice of programmes for everyone who needs an improved level of English for academic,social or professional reasons.

Your choice of coursesWhen you enrol, you can select the number of lessons per week which suits you best, and the courseduration which meets your needs. You can be sure that if you are a complete beginner or if youalready have a good command of the language, there will be a class suitable for you.

Your classYou will study in a lively international atmosphere with others whose levels of English are similar toyour own. You will be taught by a team of two or three teachers, who encourage participation andinteraction between members of the group - and English is the only language you will use!

Your lessonsYour lessons will be stimulating and effective, with a variety of activities to develop your confidence,knowledge and skills:• lively presentation and practice of new language• rapid development of oral fluency, accuracy and conversation skills• systematic development of listening, reading and writing skills• extension of vocabulary, structure and usage

If you follow a course of 25 or 30 lessons per week, you will have the additional benefit of languageextension and supplementary skills.

Outside your scheduled timetable, you will be able to use the multi-media learning centre, withcomputers, internet access, TV, DVD, reference library and private study facilities. Everything youneed for enjoyable and successful study!

Course profileThe Academic Study Programme provides structured and flexible long-term courses for all who needhigh standards of English to achieve their career objectives. It is particularly important if you needinternationally recognised qualifications in the language for employment or entry to higher education.

Your programme, lasting up to one year and leading to the Anglo-Continental Diploma in English,allows you to progress at an appropriate rate through the various language levels to UpperIntermediate or Advanced.

Special study optionsYour language knowledge and skills are systematically assessed and developed within an intensivegeneral English course, supplemented by interesting special study options in areas such asacademic study preparation, reading and writing skills, English for business and professionalsubjects, and English in the context of British life and culture.

Examination optionsThis programme allows you to take advantage of our Intensive IELTS and FCE Preparation Courses.You may also wish to combine your Intensive Course with one or more of our comprehensive range ofoptions, which include preparation for a number of internationally recognised examinations such as:• the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)• the University of Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)• the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

Course durationsYou can enrol for varying periods from 24 to60 weeks depending on your initial level ofEnglish, the level you wish to reach and theexamination qualifications, if any, you wishto obtain.

Ifyou will not be studying at the school before the closing date for entry, pleaserequest an official examination entry form as early as possible. Some of theexaminations are subject to a minimum number of candidates.

At Anglo-Continental we have a long successful history in preparing our students for English languageexaminations which are widely accepted in academic and commercial circles throughout the world.We provide courses in preparation for highly regarded examinations such as the International EnglishLanguage Testing System (IELTS) and the University of Cambridge First Certificate (FCE).

Courses are designed to develop the necessary skills relevant to the particular examination and topresent and practise language appropriate to the students’ needs. Timed practice tests provide anidea of what it is like to work under pressure during a real examination.

Intensive IELTS Preparation CourseRecognised worldwide, IELTS assesses the language ability of candidates who need to study or workwhere English is the language of communication. Our comprehensive course is intended for thosewho wish to benefit from intensive preparation for the IELTS test, which includes listening, speaking,reading and writing components. This full-time course provides 30 lessons per week, allowingparticipants the opportunity to maximise their development in each of the four language skills.

Intensive FCE Preparation CourseThe First Certificate in English, an established Cambridge English Language Assessment examination,is for people who need to use everyday spoken and written English for work and study purposes.Our 30 lesson per week course focuses on all five parts of the exam, covering techniques on how toapproach typical tasks with special guidance on writing.

Intensive Courses with Examination PracticeThese courses aim to raise your level of general English by providing 25 lessons per week ofintensive English language study, combined with 5 lessons per week of practice for the examinationof your choice: IELTS, TOEFL or CAE. Teachers will familiarise students with the format of theexamination and introduce strategies for dealing with typical questions.

• Intensive Study in a Mini Group plus Individual Tuition, which combines groupstudy with one-to-one lessons to meet your own particular needs.

• Intensive Individual Tuition, where you work with your personal team of two or threeteachers, one-to-one.

All enrolments are subject to these conditions, whichbecome legally binding on confirmation of acceptanceby Anglo-Continental, and to the age limitations andarrangements specified in Anglo-Continental’s officialpublications.

The enrolled student intends and is able to follow andcomplete the course of study at Anglo-Continental anddeclares that he/she shall abide by all current UK lawsand leave the United Kingdom at the end of his/herstudies.

Anglo-Continental reserves the right to withholdconfirmation of an enrolment, at its discretion, if suchaction is deemed necessary in the interests of thestudent or the school or if an incorrect declaration hasbeen made.

Fees

The fees for courses and accommodation are valid from1 January to 31 December each year. The fees for thefollowing year are normally published in July/August.

The fees must be received in full by Anglo-Continentalno later than four weeks before course commencement,

otherwise Anglo-Continental reserves the right tocancel, without notice, the course, accommodation andall other services. Course fees are calculated incomplete weeks, and any part of a week is counted asa full week.

No compensation, fee reductions, refunds, credit,additional lessons or extension of the course can begiven for:

- services or facilities included in the fees and not used;

- late entry to or absence or early departure from acourse without formal curtailment;

- lessons replaced by testing, class allocationprocedures or the sightseeing tour on course entrydates;

- days when schools are closed because of officialholidays.

Any refunds which are approved can only be made bythe office or Agent to whom the fees were originallypaid. Anglo-Continental reserves the right to make feeadjustments as a result of changes to statutory taxeswithout prior notice.

Visas

If you require a visa, it is your responsibility toensure that you apply for the correct type ofvisa to allow you to study at Anglo-Continental forthe entire period of your course(s). You mustensure that all details on your confirmationdocuments (including the visa letter or theConfirmation of Acceptance for Studies) issuedby Anglo-Continental are correct before youapply for your visa. Anglo-Continental cannot beheld liable for any errors that occur during thevisa application process. It is also yourresponsibility to continue to maintain the correctimmigration status to study at Anglo-Continentalfor the duration of your course(s). Failure to doso may lead to termination of your studieswithout refund or compensation.

School regulations

Anglo-Continental publishes regulations to ensure thatthe courses operate smoothly. Acceptance of andcompliance with these regulations, and with Englishlaw, are contractual obligations on the part of thestudent.

Conditions of enrolment 2015

Arrival at the airportWhen you leave the Customs Hall, look for ourRepresentative carrying a sign with the name ofthe school.

Delayed arrivalYou are allowed two hours’ waiting time fromthe advised arrival time, free of charge. If youare delayed further, for whatever reason, thedriver will wait for up to an additional 2 hoursand you will be charged in accordance with thepublished tariff.

Help telephone numbersIn the case of a problem during your transfer,please contact the emergency telephone numbergiven in the school confirmation documents.

Luggage allowance - car and coach transfersYour free allowance is one piece of luggage ofa standard size and shape weighing not morethan 23kg, plus one item of hand luggage ofnot more than 10kg.If your luggage does not conform with theabove, an additional charge may have to bemade. It is important that you advise us inadvance if there is excess baggage so we canmake appropriate arrangements, otherwise youmay find that the excess luggage cannot travelwith you and there may be additional charges.

Possible waiting times for coachtransfersIt is our aim to get you to Bournemouth as soonas possible. Please take into account thefollowing: flights may be delayed, late release ofluggage, UK Border Control, Customs Controland heavy road traffic. Depending on the timeyou enter the arrival hall, you may have to waitmore than one hour for the next coach departure.

CancellationNotice of cancellation or change of a transfermust be received in writing by the school before12.00 hours (British Time) on the Wednesdayprior to the scheduled day of arrival or

departure. If such notice is not received withinthe period stipulated, we incur obligations to thetransport companies and therefore the fullcharge is due.

Liability and insuranceWe cannot accept responsibility for any delay inscheduled services, or if any service cannot beprovided as specified, or for any loss, damageor injury to students or their property duringtravel. We advise you to take out personalinsurance to cover yourself against these risks.

PaymentPayment for transfers must be made before thedate of provision of the service. Any additionalcharges, such as delayed arrival, must be paidon the first day of school.

Fuel surcharge

Cancellation or postponement of a course

A course is not transferable but may be cancelled orpostponed and full course fees will be refunded (exceptfor bank charges), provided that written notice isreceived by Anglo-Continental not less than four weeksbefore the scheduled date of course commencement. Inthe absence of such notice, or if less than four weeks’notice is received:

- in the case of cancellation, a fee of £ 500 is payablein lieu of notice;

- in the case of postponement, Anglo-Continentalreserves the right to levy a charge to coveradministration and accommodation costs incurred onthe student's behalf;

- should the application for a visa be refused, we willrefund any published fees paid in advance (afterdeduction of an administration charge of £ 50)provided that you send us a copy of the letter ofrefusal before the intended start date of the course.

Any additional charges for services provided by a thirdparty (such as Home Office CAS charges, hotelaccommodation, flat rental and courier services) arenot refundable.

Curtailment of a course

(Excluding courses with reduced fees)

If a course of more than eight weeks' duration iscurtailed by the student, four weeks' notice must be givento the school. If no notice or insufficient notice is given,course fees must be paid in lieu of notice together withany accommodation charges due. In all cases, coursefees must be paid for a minimum of eight weeks.

If a course of eight weeks' duration or less is curtailed,no refund of course fees can be given. Students musthave personal insurance against inability to attend orcontinue a course for medical or compassionatereasons (see ‘liability and insurance’).

Change of course(Excluding courses with reduced fees)

If, after commencement of a course, the student wishesto change to a course of a lower specification, twoweeks' notice must be given to the school. If approved,the change must be made on a scheduled entry datefor the new course.

Any refund due will be in the form of a credit towardsany required extension of the amended course ortowards any subsequent course with Anglo-Continental

during the twelve months following the end of theamended course. The credit is not transferable to anyother person and no cash refund can be given.

Incorrect declaration

Anglo-Continental reserves the right to withdraw astudent from the course if an incorrect declaration hasbeen made or if information regarding a student’sability to participate in the course has not beendisclosed to us before course commencement. In thiscase, no refund can be made.

English language level

Any information about your level received prior to yourarrival will act as a guide only. Your English languagelevel will be determined by our entry test on your firstday. If you are not at the required level for your course,you will be transferred to a suitable alternative course.

Accommodation

The fee for the first week in homestay accommodationincludes a non-refundable administration charge tocover the cost of selection, reservation andadministration.

Any request to change or leave accommodation, eitherseparately or in conjunction with the curtailment of acourse, must be made to Anglo-Continental at least twoweeks before the date of the proposed move andapproved before the change is made. Failing this,accommodation fees are payable in lieu of notice.Accommodation fees continue to be payable for anyperiods of absence during the course.

Photography, film, sound recordings andwritten work

During our courses we sometimes take photographs, filmfootage and sound recordings, some of which may beincorporated into items such as, but not limited to, futurepublicity material, tests and educational materials. Wemay also wish to use examples of your written work. Ifyou do not wish to participate in any of these items,please advise Anglo-Continental in writing before thestart of the course, otherwise it is understood that youhave unreservedly given your consent for these to beused.

Liability and insurance

Anglo-Continental will not be liable for any loss,damage, illness or injury to persons or property,however caused, except where such liability is imposedby statute. Anglo-Continental will also not be heldresponsible for any delay in scheduled services of third

party companies or if any service cannot be providedas specified. Any complaints, liabilities, losses ordamages arising should be submitted to the third partycompany concerned. It is the student’s responsibility totake out personal insurance against all such risks,including inability to attend or continue a course andfor the payment of medical expenses.

Anglo-Continental car transfer services

You are allowed two hours’ waiting time from theadvised arrival time, free of charge. If you aredelayed further, for whatever reason, the driver willwait for up to an additional 2 hours and you will becharged in accordance with the published tariff.

Force majeure

It shall be a fundamental condition of the contractbetween the student and Anglo-Continental or itsAgents that neither Anglo-Continental nor its Agentsshall be in any way liable to the student in the event ofany service contracted to be supplied by thembecoming impossible to supply by reason of industrialdispute or other cause outside their control.

Data protection

To ensure that your course at Anglo-Continental meetsyour requirements we and, if appropriate, the Anglo-Continental Agent in your own country will need to usethe information you provide (such as your personaldata and details of any special requirements) in orderto process your enrolment.

We must pass your information on to those involved inproviding you with services relating to your stay atAnglo-Continental such as, but not limited to, yourreservation of accommodation and transfer services.The information may also be provided, if required, tosecurity or credit-checking organisations, customs andthe Home Office as required by UK law.

Please note that where your information is held by anAnglo-Continental Agent, it will be subject to yourAgent’s own data protection policy and their country’snational law.

Validity of conditions

These Conditions of enrolment and Additionalconditions for long-term courses are valid from 1 January 2015 and are subject to English law. TheEnglish language version is legally binding in all cases.

Anglo-Continental reserves the right to waive or adjustthe specifications of a course, which may include agelimits, without prior notification.

Curtailment of a course

If a long-term course is curtailed after its commencement,no refund of course fees can be given. It is the student'sresponsibility to take out personal insurance againstinability to attend or continue a course for medical orcompassionate reasons (see ‘liability and insurance’above).

Change of course

An enrolment for a long-term course may not bechanged after course commencement except where thestudent wishes to prolong or include a course of a higherspecification with the approval of the school.

School holidays

Students following long-term courses may apply to takeholidays, in complete weeks from Monday to Friday, attimes convenient to the programme and with theapproval of the Director of Studies. Holidays are allowedon the basis of a maximum of two weeks per twelveweeks of the programme and application must be made

to the school not less than two weeks in advance. Ineach case the total course duration will be extended tocompensate for the number of weeks’ holiday taken.Holidays may not be taken when following intensiveIELTS or FCE preparation, Examination Practice orBusiness and Specialised options.

Anglo-Continental has a legal duty of care for studentsunder 18 years of age. A holiday or break in stay canonly be authorised once written permission has beenreceived from the student’s parent/guardian.

Anglo-Continental schools are also closed onofficial national holidays declared by the BritishGovernment. Those scheduled for 2015 are:3 April, 6 April, 4 May, 25 May and 31 August.

If your entry date coincides with an officialholiday, your accommodation will still bereserved for you from the Sunday before yourcourse commences, and we would advise you to plan to arrive on that day. Your course willbegin with the entry test on the next workingday following the holiday.

No compensation, fee reductions, refunds,credit, additional lessons or extension of thecourse can be given for days when the school is closed because of official holidays.

Accommodation during school holidaysIf you are attending a course which continuesafter the school holiday, 19 December 2015 to 3 January 2016, homestay accommodation willbe upgraded to full board during the holiday, ata supplement of £ 50 per week. This will beautomatically reserved and invoiced. If you donot require this accommodation, you must informus at least 4 weeks before the holiday periodand we will arrange a full refund.

UK visa requirementsIf you are unsure whether you will need a visa tostudy in the UK, visit the Home Office website at:www.gov.uk/visas-immigration You may also wish to consult your nearest BritishEmbassy or Consulate.

If you require a visa in order to study in the UK,we strongly recommend that you apply as earlyas possible for your course as the applicationprocedure may take several weeks to complete.Before issuing a visa letter, Anglo-Continentalmust be in receipt of a deposit of £ 500(deductible when you pay your fees) or the fullamount of the fees due. Before assigning aConfirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS),the full amount of the fees will be due unless youare government sponsored.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you applyfor the correct type of visa to allow you to studyat Anglo-Continental for the entire period of yourcourse(s). You must ensure that all details onyour confirmation documents (including the visaletter or the CAS) issued by Anglo-Continentalare correct before you apply for your visa.Anglo-Continental cannot be held liable for anyerrors that occur during the visa applicationprocess. It is also your responsibility to continueto maintain the correct immigration status tostudy at Anglo-Continental for the duration ofyour course(s). Failure to do so may lead totermination of your studies without refund orcompensation.

We strongly recommend that you send ascanned copy of your visa to us to check priorto your departure to the UK.

Refund guaranteeShould your application for a visa be refused,we will refund any published fees paid by you(after deduction of an administration charge of£ 50) provided that you send us a copy of theletter of refusal before the intended start date ofyour course.

Any additional charges for services provided bya third party (such as CAS charges, hotelaccommodation, flat rental and courier services)are not covered by this guarantee.
