Quote of the monthBe this the central faith and fact of life:

that there is a light beyond the

darkness, and a purpose which makes

music of our confusion—and we, you

and I have some part in both. Hold fast

to that and fear nothing. G. Bullet

     A love letter.

    Dear Melissa,

We’ve been through a long road together. Things havebeen not that easy for us, but we have survived and madethrough ok. Overall, we have been rough on each other toomany times. It did not help that we rarely asked for help. You had to take the high and long road to get to where youare today.

I forgive you for making the mistakes. We have learnedfrom those mistakes and have started to move forward. Wehave learned to not associate ourselves with certainpeople. We have learned to trust our instinct. We havelearned to (mostly) not be so selfish and to not get sofrustrated with mainly yourself and, therefore, others.

Above all of the troubles, I really love you for who you are.You are a good person. You are someone that people dowant to be around. You are a listener. You understandpeople. You take the extra time to get to know people andwhat they need. You remember the little details aboutpeople and try to reach out much more than before, which

has not been easy for you.

You are a beautiful person inside and out. Your body hasbeen transformed over the last year into something that isstill beautiful. Take the time to appreciate yourself for all ofthe things that you do. Just remember to listen to yourselfand take care of yourself. You are someone special. Donot forget about that especially when things look scary inyour life. Take a deep breathe and take one step at a time.

    I love you!

    Sincerely,

     Me

Passo Del Tonale which was simply

stunning. I love all the " people watching"

and the Italian ski fashion. My husband

loves geng to the slopes while it's sll

dark outside and enjoying a coee, then its

WANT TO TRY A SWAP PARTY   ?

    Then be ready on 19th

     February, 10 a.m.

    Julia’s House in Camparada

How many times have you stood in front of your closet complaining you had nothing to wear?

Despite our wardrobes are overflowing with shoes, tops, dresses, and jeans we still become weary of repeatedly

wearing the same pieces. It’s a problem that many women have dealt with. Too bad we don’t all have unlimited

budgets to buy heaps of clothes and accessories whenever we’re sick of the old stuff. However, if your wardrobe is in

desperate need of an update a clothing swap with friends might be the best alternative.

Born in Manhattan, the paradise of shoppers, SWAPPING is the top fashion event, the most glamorous and up to date

way to shop for free and give your clothes a new try.

You don’t need to be a fashion-victim to take part to a Swap Party, just the opposite: if you are a fashion-victim this is

the coolest way to get rid of some of your clothes and barter for nothing.

Why do it? Beyond being economical, eco-friendly, and an excuse to clean out your closet, a swap party with friends is

far more fun than any other usual party you’ve ever experienced before.

What exactly is it? A clothing swap is a party where you and each of the other attendees bring your excess stuff and

exchange them with others, to freshen up your wardrobe. Remember the old saying that someone’s

trash is another person’s treasure? The same principle applies to a clothing swap. While you might be tired of your

clothes, they might be just what one of your friends have been looking for.

    A few rules:

    1.  Only 20 ladies can take part to it, as it will be hosted in one of the Benvenuto members’ home, so be

quick in booking your place as the principle first come – first serve will be applied.

    2.  A fee of 5 euros will be asked to all attendees for drinks and appetizers

    3.  Each lady is asked to bring a maximum of 5 items, all in perfect conditions, choosing from clothes or

accessories ( handbags, scarves, jewellery, sunglasses, unopened beauty- products), or any unwanted

clothing, regardless of the weather outside. Tank tops and T-shirts make great layering pieces year

    round.

Items that won’t be accepted are bathing suits, underwear, shoes.

Please note that if you are unable to attend a Special Activity for which you have paid, a minimum

of 48 hours notice is required for cancellation but a refund cannot always be guaranteed.

WARM is a concept inspired by all the cool, fantastic, and strong women I

have the pleasure to know. The current tradition of International Women’s

Day - yellow flowers and a pizza night out- does not do us justice in

celebrating our unique talents and beauty. This is my brainchild, a labor oflove, and a tribute to all the women I have the pleasure to know and to

those I have yet to know. WARM is for women only, women of all ages. I

believe that a beautiful woman is built on a foundation of intelligence and

self-confidence. The message I want to convey is that we are beautiful, no

matter what the mass media bombards us with. So, if you would like to

celebrate our sisterhood, with a talent show, dinner & dance, please join me

for a phantasmagorical celebration of sisterhood. Please bring your

dancing shoes, girl friends and a positive attitude for a real girls’ night out.

Tickets are limited and were sold out at the last two years’ events. This is

NOT a Benevento event. All profits go to CADOM (Benvenuto charity) and

    the animal shelter of Padero.

    WOMB Cecilia Atzori

What has been the biggest life changing experience for you

and how has it changed you?

The most important moment of my life was the meeting in 2000 with

    Federico that I later married.

He won me over by loving and accepting me for who I am and

making me a complete and better person.

I could not believe it. It was like a dream: Prince Charming knocked

at my door when I was 37 years old and blew everything as a strong

hurricane, but at the same time, as the Rose of the Winds, pointed

to me the right direction. Fantaboulous !

This stormy wind has been my salvation, my happiness. I felt reborn.

After an initial period of shock and fear, it became easy to surrender to the power of vulnerability ... following the reasons of

    the heart.

After 15 years and a wonderful gift, our daughter Sofia, 10 years old, I thank my parents for teaching me the fundamental

values of my life: respect, love, family and friendship.

Thanks Federico, thanks Sofia: you are my secret weapon, my balance, my joy and my harmony.

    CHARITY IS LOVE

During our last committee meeting we underlined the

great need that many associations are having in this

time of crisis and our desire to contribute in some way

    to help out.

We can however focus on offering assistance in many

    ways....

Time and caring are of great importance......

If you know of anyone in San Gerardo hospital who

would appreciate some company please contact Janu

to organize visits. For the Vimercate Hospital contact

     Anna Bodini.

On Saturday, 31st January, Carla, Janu, Marina and

Pauline accepted the invitation to visit the Banco diSolidarietà Madre Teresa Onlus in Giussano. This is

one of our charities and is currently giving assistance

to an ever -increasing number of people who for

various reasons are in dire straits. Even during the

short time we spent with the volunteers in the depôt,

we witnessed the arrival of a father and three young

children, most likely in hand-me-downs and certainly in

search of support - a stark reminder that the needy are

right here amongst us. Maddalena and Martino, two of

the people in charge of this charity, were intrigued(and grateful) to hear that our group is interested in

helping them with their endeavours. It was outlined to

us how individuals and families are "referred" to the

association and subsequently receive food parcels, the

contents of which are calculated according to the

number/age of the various family members. The

parcels are normally delivered by a couple of

volunteers on a fortnightly basis. It's not the "handout"

alone that counts - the willingness of the volunteers to

reach out and listen is a priceless gift AND it bears

fruit...many of those who have to seek support then try

to reciprocate as best they can.

Next time you go shopping, please spare a thought for

this charity and, if possible, purchase an extra item or

two to bring along to the coffee morning on March

12th. We would ideally like this to be an ongoing

commitment and hope to collect food items at each

coffee morning but we could also designate "collection

points" at various members' homes. We will keep you

    informed on that.

The food items which would be most appreciated are:

    PASTA - RICE - CANS (TUNA/TOMATOES/PEAS/

VEG etc) - UHT MILK - OIL - COFFEE - BREAKFAST

ITEMS (all with a reasonable expiry date).

    Thanks so much!

Marga, Carla, and Marina visited one of the charities

chosen, ' Fraternità Capitanio' to find out more about

their Mowgli Project, so that we can find out if our club

can be of greater use to them during the year. By

assisting young people with learning problems this

project has been successful in reducing the number of

students that drop out or interrupt their studies.

If you feel you have time to offer this project please do

not hesitate to contact us or Luisa Forlini.

We will continue collecting spectacles you no longer

use at our April coffee morning. We will also continue

giving our support to the Asilo notturno in Monza.

Before our April coffee morning we will give a list of the

men's items the Asilo notturno is short of.

NB. Whatever clothing (men and women's clothes))

you may have to give away will be collected, starting

from the APRIL COFFEE MORNING by Carla Foggini

who has found that the Caritas in Vedano is a well-

organized association that is worth supporting.

The associations supported by the club are very

grateful for all the help you all offer...

    Thank you ladies....

Adua  has kindly given us the photographs of the

memorable ceremony that took place on the 17th

January 2015 in the Centro Slancio in Monza.

SLANCIO has honoured our club with a special tag

placed in the entrance next to 'l'albero delle viteracchiuse', on the 'Mosaico della solidarietà' for the

    support received last year.

HECTOR AND THE SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS – Francois Lelord

    Submitted by Barbara De Savorgnani

This short book deals with Hector, the psychiatrist who, concerned that so many of his paents who should be happy, were not, went on a working holiday around the world seeking to nd out just what it is that denes happiness, making

the following notes along the way.

Making comparisons can spoil your happiness

Happiness oen comes when least expected

Many people see happiness only in their future

Many people think that happiness comes from having more power and more money

Somemes happiness is not knowing the whole story

Happiness is a long walk in beauful, unfamiliar mountains

It is a mistake to think that happiness is the goal

Happiness is being with the people you love (8b Unhappiness is being separated from the people that you love)

Happiness is knowing your family lacks for nothing

Happiness is doing a job you love

Happiness is having a home and a garden of your own

It is harder to be happy in a country run by bad people

Happiness is feeling useful to others

Happiness is being loved for exactly who you are

Happiness comes when you feel truly alive

Happiness is knowing how to celebrate

Happiness is caring about the happiness of those that you love

Happiness is not aaching too much importance to what other people think

The sun and the sea make everyone happy

Happiness is a certain way of seeing things

    Rivalry poisons happiness

Women care more than men about making others happy

Happiness means making sure that those around you are happy

At the end of the book he makes the following observaons:

So how do we know how to recognise happiness? ……..we compare our present situaon to our past experiences, or to asituaon or experience of others. To really savour a moment of happiness, one has to try and forget about the past andother people. If one is constantly making comparisons, it’s hard to ever feel happy.

Are people happier in rich sociees? Studies show that below a certain level of poverty, it’s very hard to be happy. However, once basic needs have been met and if one also lives in a community of people with roughly similar standard ofliving, being ‘richer’ doesn’t signicantly increase happiness. Poor people living in poor countries are much happier thanpoor people living in wealthier countries. In fact what’s most important is to feel acceptance amongst one’s social group.

EVERY DAY IS A DAY FOR HIGHER LOVE

Adapted from the works of Susan Jeffers, Ph.D. & submitted by

     Anna Bodini

Every year Valentine’s Day is proclaimed to be the one and

only day devoted to love. And while it is pleasant to get or to

give a show of love on that day, there are 364 other days in

the year in which we can also be loving toward our partner.Susan often said that, "Every day needs to be a special day

for honoring our mates and practicing love in its highest

sense." She emphasized that to be the best partner

possible, we need to create a "Higher Love" in our special

    relationships.

Higher Love in a relationship can be distilled down to two

    things:

    Inspiration and Deep Appreciation

Inspiration can mean a number of different things to differentpeople. Yet the basic tenants are the same. Inspiration in a

    relationship means:

•First and foremost we are a friend to our partners... and we

    treat them accordingly

•As guardian over another person's feelings, we lift that

person up spiritually when their self -esteem falters

•When our loved one doubts their own beauty, we remind

    them how beautiful they are

•We encourage our partner to stretch and grow even if wefear they could grow away from us

•We stretch and grow ourselves in order that we become a

support instead of a burden to our partner

•We applaud when our partner succeeds or doesn't

succeed. We are there for them in times of celebration and

    in times of need

    •Our support is reciprocal

•We don't buy into dependency, but encourage our partner

to stand on their own two feet

•We don't require that our partner make us happy, but that

    we make them happy

The beauty of all these wonderful actions in a relationship is

that as we offer inspiration to our beloved, we will also

inspire ourselves. Conversely, when we drag our mate

down, we drag ourselves down as well. To be inspired in

your relationship, to create a Higher Love, you must protect

the wounded child within your partner instead of making it

bleed more than it already is bleeding. The inspiration lies in

both the care and nurturing of your partner and the care and

nurturing of yourself as a partner.

Deep Appreciation is one of the most precious gifts we can

give to our partner. Letting them know how grateful we are

for their presence in our lives is a gift that truly keeps on

    giving.

We need to remember to express our thanks for the gifts we

are given through our relationship, and if we are conscious

we will notice that the gifts are many. Thank you... thank

you... thank you, as Susan suggested repeating — often.

When we express our appreciation to our mate, we can feel

the abundance in our relationship instead of feeling any

sense of lack. We feel enriched and so does our partner.

Susan recommended that we constantly acknowledge the

graciousness that their presence brings to our lives.

Whether it is a simple thank you for a routine action or a

public announcement recognizing your partner’s importance

in your life, make time to be openly and frankly grateful.

Here are a few of Susan's recommended things to say to

    your partner to show appreciation:

YOU ARE CONTRIBUTING SO MUCH TO MY LIFE.

    YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL PERSON.

    I LEARN FROM YOU.

    I FEEL SUPPORTED BY YOU.

I FEEL BLESSED BY THE WAY YOU LOVE ME.

She believed that if we say these things often, not only in

private but also in the presence of other people, we are

validating our partner’s value and that nothing will make

    them feel more special.

Inspiration and Deep Appreciation are two of the most

important ingredients for bringing your relationship to a

Higher Love. But why wait until Valentine’s Day?

Today is a good day to start actively focusing on moving our

relationships up to a Higher Love, an aware love, an adult

love, and one that allows us to feel good about ourselves

and the love we have in our lives.

Today and everyday should be Valentine’s Day- a special

day of inspiration and deep appreciation for your

    relationship and your partner.

    Love Means by Rachael Martin

    Mum, what's love?

    Should you ask me -

    Sofa sprawled mother child

And your elbow digs into my rib

    But that's okay

    Because it's you.

     And what indeed means love?

As I look up at bookshelves

Breathing a thousand tales of love

     And words spent in definition.

I could tell you of distressed damsels

Knights of old and a chivalric code

Of Arthur and Guinevere and other loves doomed

Of a dowry of a table

Given with a young woman who would then

    Destroy all it meant herself.

     Again, for love,

    But for the wrong man.

I could tell you of a girl named Juliet

That like all true Shakespearean tragic heroes

Had to die. Or rather of Capulets and Montagues

And blood lost on juvenile swords.

    Yes, you'd love that.

I could tell you of a young woman

Who drank it all in and met her prince,

    Of a happy-ended wedding,

Of a thousand girls all weddinged-up

    Saddling silver -backed unicorns

    Or rather clapped-out Fiat 500s,

    Only the brakes need attention

    But who cares anyway;

    Or of the after

    Where Austen stopped,

Years of patching a life together

Only to die in separate endings.

     And compromise.

Yes, there's a lot of compromise.

Then I would tell you of a woman

    Who sits middle aged

    With a middle aged man

    In a middle aged loveship

Seemingly far from youth and impulse

    Yet knows she loves and lives that love;

Of an elderly man who delicately dresses an ageing woman,

    Brushes her hair,

    Tenderly applies her favourite lipstick

    To a ravaged hollowed hallowed

    Woman yet his wife

And knows she has to die.

Yes I would tell you all this

And you would look at me

     And try to follow

Instead I tell you only this.

    Love is

     And what is then was.

    Each love is different

    Each one unique

What is important is that it is.

    I love you mum

    I love you too

    I love you more

And thus begins our own love song

And within us a thousand tiny shattered stars

Flicker to the tune of the universe,

     And within all this

I smile and vow to be a better wife

For words are all too easy

And whatever I may tell you

    You will watch

Eyes surveying all that is and is not.

Yes, you will watch and learn that I do.

    Love is

    by some lovely Benvenuto ladies

Love is friendship and the joy of shared experience whichis exactly what Benvenuto is all about.

    Love

is taking your dog out early in the morning evenwhen it's raining and cold and you would just love tostay in bed.

    Love

    is watching my daughters sleep.

Love is holding your children so very close to you when they are small but slowly being able to let them go when they are teenagers so that they become independentadults.

    Love

is about trust.Love is patient and focusing on the best in the other person rather than picking fault, so not easy after 20years of being with someone!Love

    cannot easily be defined.

Love is that infinite and unconditional bond that mustbe experienced to be known.

Love is the gift we should donate to ourselves, first of

    all, and to others.

    Love is our true essence.

Love is the essence of life.

In Case of a night-time health problem that is not serious enough

for the Hospital Emergency room service, but needs to be attend-

ed to quickly, call: EMERGENCY PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES

    Guardia Medica National Call Number:

    840 500 092

    Recommendation*:

Listen to the recording (in Italian) and wait for an operator on the

    line.

If you don’t speak Italian, ask for someone who speaks English.

You have to give them all of your personal information: name,

address, telephone number and the description of your illness.

Ask if there is a doctor who speaks English or your language.

They will have a doctor call you back in the next hour (usually

faster). The doctor will tell you, if they need to make a house visitor if you should to go to the nearest GUARDIA MEDICA. They

will give you the address of the closest one to your location.

The visit is usually free of charge. House visits may be different.

This service usually works very well for a quick diagnosis or to

resolve a problem, and to obtain a prescription to go to the

    pharmacy.

*Many thanks to Marilena Nigretti, a Benvenuto Memberand local pharmacist, who provided much of the infor-mation presented here. Marilena has a Pharmacy(Farmacia Trevisan) in Usmate-Velate and she speaksfluent English.
