2015 62 Your fishing permit Regulations Invasive species Fishing for persons with reduced mobility Fishing grounds Fishing tourism Useful information Fishing season and hours / Minimum catch size Fishing permit In order to fish in the Pas-de-Calais département, you will need a valid fishing permit (carte de pêche). When fishing, you must have with you at all times: Both a fishing permit issued by an AAPPMA of the Pas-de- Calais département or one delivered by one of the neighbouring départements together with a subscription to a reciprocity agreement (URNE) and the official freshwater eel fishing form (carnet de pêche de l’anguille - CERFA form N°14358*01). It is illegal to fish without a fishing permit. Any fishery officer is allowed to fine you if you cannot show him/her your fishing permit. Purchasing a fishing permit There are three different ways for you to obtain a fishing permit: Online: www.cartedepeche.fr At a local agents’ (find one near you on www.peche62.fr) At the local AAPPMA affiliated fishing association Please note that if your permit is lost or stolen, no duplicate will be issued, although you are allowed to reprint your permit if you purchased it online. Your permit fees are put to good use Obtaining fishing rights The fees collected by the Federation and the AAPPMA pay for the necessary fishing rights for anglers. Promoting and developing fishing These fees also allow the federation to organise fishing events and activities, from fishing classes for children (federation activities and fishing workshops) and the maintenance of fishing grounds to promoting fishing (signs, fishing guide) and the stocking of some fishing grounds. Protecting our fish and freshwater capital When you purchase a fishing permit, you fund AAPPMA and Fishing federation actions in the public interest, such as fishing ground maintenance, ecological restoration and protection of fish species. Permit fees also helps maintain a fishing network in charge of communicating, teaching and monitoring as well as raising environmental awareness. Part of the fees is used to finance official water agencies for the protection of the aquatic environment. Types of fishing permits (cartes de pêche) There are 6 different fishing permits to suit your every needs: Carte majeure an annual card for people over 18 Découverte femme an annual card especially for women Carte mineure an annual card for 12 to 18 year-olds Carte découverte an annual card for children under 12 Carte journalière our one-day fishing pass Carte hebdomadaire our weekly fishing pass Timbre Grands Migrateurs If you want to go sea trout or Atlantic salmon fishing, you will need a specific fishing stamp called Grands Migrateurs (large migratory fish). Carte Interfédérale If you wish to fish in the URNE, CHI, EGHO grounds, you will need the carte interfédérale, a reciprocal fishing permit. All prices can be found on our website: www.peche62.fr or on the dedicated permit site www.cartedepeche.fr Carp fishing at night Carp fishing is allowed at night on specific grounds defined by prefectoral order - find them on our website, www.peche62.fr. Only vegetable fishing paste can be used as bait. Under no circumstances can a carp be kept alive or transported at night. In order to fight against illegal trade in carps, transporting live carps over 60 cm (1 ft. 11 ¾ in.) is forbidden and punishable by a €22,500 fine. Reciprocal fishing agreement Many fishing associations and federations “pool” their fishing grounds through a reciprocal agreement to make it easier for anglers to obtain a permit and to create a much larger fishing area. In the Pas-de-Calais département, the fishing federation and 31 AAPPMA associations offer reciprocal fishing grounds. It means that when your fishing licence has been issued by one of these associations, you can fish on any of the grounds belonging to other associations in the Pas-de-Calais département (see map at the back). If you wish to fish in a neighbouring département, you can get an interfederal fishing permit that will give you access to all AAPPMA angling grounds participating in the URNE, EGHO and CHI reciprocal networks. The URNE stamp 16 départements have signed a reciprocal agreement to share all or part of their private fishing grounds and some AAPPMA grounds as well. If you have a Carte annuelle majeure fishing permit and you purchase an URNE stamp, you can fish in all the URNE grounds covered by the reciprocal agreement. Selling your catch You are not allowed to sell your catch. Minimal catch size Catch size is measured from the tip of the jaw to the extremity of the tail. Fish shorter than the minimal size must be released immediately (see the table concerning fishing hours and minimal catch size). The Open Tag Carna 2015 fishing contests Following their success these past few years, the federation has decided to renew its two lure fishing contest for predatory fish anglers! Open Tag Carna contests are the perfect occasion both to fish for fun and to gather scientific information on local predatory fish species. Once more, the fishing federation will seize this occasion to tag and release numerous fish while improving knowledge on the local dynamics of predatory fish (growth rate, migration, etc.). These contests are still being organised: you can keep posted and find the exact dates - to come - on our website. Applications are limited! Those were some of our partners for the 2014 edition: Fishing for beginner and intermediate anglers For several years now, the FDAAPPMA 62 has been offering free workshops to all anglers throughout the département. Participants will be guided by a professional instructor, and all the necessary fishing tackle will be provided free of charge by the fishing federation. In order to participate to this workshop, you only need apply. If a machine answers your call, please leave a message and call the next number on the list until you reach someone who can come and assess the contamination. What about fishing on the Ternoise river? 4 fishing associations along the Ternoise river have signed a reciprocal agreement so that anglers can enjoy an uninterrupted 23 miles of category 1 fishing grounds on the banks of the river. They are renown for their density in salmonids - which reproduce naturally - as well as large migratory fish such as Atlantic salmon and sea trout. On the Ternoise riverbanks, you can enjoy different fishing techniques: fly-fishing, lure fishing, Czech nymphing… Come and fish for a day, or two, or more! Find out more about the Pêche en Ternoise project on the pecherenriviere Facebook page Fishing accommodation The French fishing federation (FNPF) has established a label and its accompanying quality charter to help promote the development of fishing accommodation and services. The Fédération du Pas-de- Calais pour la Pêche et la Protection du Milieu Aquatique also applies this quality charter locally. Fishing accommodation must meet several criteria: it has to be close to fishing grounds, must be open during the fishing season, must welcome anglers in a personal way and be ready to advise them and provide relevant leaflets and documentation. It must also offer services such as a locker or room for fishing tackle, packed meals, and make fishing easier by delivering fishing permits, informing anglers about current regulations and what the Fédération Départementale pour la Pêche has to offer. Here is a list of fishing accommodation that have applied for this quality label. Workshop fee: €15 per person, lunch included From 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM - 10 persons maximum Invasive species Catfish, pumpkinseed sunfish and Eastern crayfish are invasive species that must be released under no circumstances. They must be killed before transport. Their introduction is prohibited. Their use as living or dead bait is strictly forbidden. Catfish Pumpkinseed sunfish Eastern crayfish Red-eared slider The red-eared slider, a species native from South- western USA, was legally introduced in France by aquarists. Some of them unfortunately released their terrapins in the wild when they became too large. That is the reason why they have become a common sight in our streams, where they compete with and thus threaten local species. Please act responsibly and do not release red-eared sliders in the wild. If you find one while fishing, please do not release it: call the local animal shelter or vet instead, and ask them to take it in. Muskrat As an invasive species, muskrats have been present in the rivers of the North of France since the 1960s. They originated in specimens that either were released or escaped into the wild. In the agricultural areas of Europe, muskrats are one of the most actively fought invasive species. Muskrats dig into riverbanks and erode them. In the Nord-Pas-de-Calais département, the FREDON is in charge of monitoring this regulated pest and coordinating the fight against it. Populations are thus monitored and a pest control program is in effect. It is organised - as designed by law - by pest control associations and their federations. The only exception is made for the brown trout: it can be fished 2 hours after sundown in grounds registered for salmon and brown trout fishing (the rivers where the November 26th, 1987 ministerial decree applies are listed on www.peche62.fr). Only a prefectoral order can allow the night fishing of carps, but the fish must be returned to the water immediately. Sunrise and sunsets indicated are Paris time. 2015 hours might vary slightly and are indicative only. Fishing Fair Sunday June 7 th 2015, anglers will gladly teach you and your family how to fish! Thanks to the Pas-de-Calais département fishing federation and to the local fishing and aquatic environment conservation associations, everybody can learn how to fish in their local river and discover more about the aquatic habitat and the species that live in it. For the occasion, the fishing federation will open a Fishing and Nature Fair right next to its new office on rue des Alpes in ARQUES. More on www.peche62.fr Join us! Fishing permitIn order to fish in the Pas-de-Calais département, you will need a valid fishing permit (carte de pêche). When fishing, you must have with you at all times: Both a fishing permit issued by an AAPPMA of the Pas-de-Calais département or one delivered by one of the neighbouring départements together with a subscription to a reciprocity agreement (URNE) and the official freshwater eel fishing form (carnet de pêche de l’anguille - CERFA form N°14358*01).

It is illegal to fish without a fishing permit. Any fishery officer is allowed to fine you if you cannot show him/her your fishing permit.

Purchasing a fishing permitThere are three different ways for you to obtain a fishing permit:

Online: www.cartedepeche.fr At a local agents’ (find one near you on www.peche62.fr) At the local AAPPMA affiliated fishing association

Please note that if your permit is lost or stolen, no duplicate will be issued, although you are allowed to reprint your permit if you purchased it online.

Your permit fees are put to good use Obtaining fishing rights

The fees collected by the Federation and the AAPPMA pay for the necessary fishing rights for anglers.

Promoting and developing fishingThese fees also allow the federation to organise fishing events and activities, from fishing classes for children (federation activities and fishing workshops) and the maintenance of fishing grounds to promoting fishing (signs, fishing guide) and the stocking of some fishing grounds.

Protecting our fish and freshwater capital When you purchase a fishing permit, you fund AAPPMA and Fishing federation actions in the public interest, such as fishing ground maintenance, ecological restoration and protection of fish species.

Permit fees also helps maintain a fishing network in charge of communicating, teaching and monitoring as well as raising environmental awareness.Part of the fees is used to finance official water agencies for the protection of the aquatic environment.

Types of fishing permits (cartes de pêche)There are 6 different fishing permits to suit your every needs:

Carte majeure an annual card for people over 18

Découverte femme an annual card especially for women

Carte mineure an annual card for 12 to 18 year-olds

Carte découverte an annual card for children under 12

Carte journalière our one-day fishing pass

Carte hebdomadaire our weekly fishing pass

Timbre Grands Migrateurs If you want to go sea trout or Atlantic salmon fishing, you will need a specific fishing stamp called Grands Migrateurs (large migratory fish).

Carte Interfédérale If you wish to fish in the URNE, CHI, EGHO grounds, you will need the carte interfédérale, a reciprocal fishing permit.

All prices can be found on our website:www.peche62.fr or on the dedicated permit site www.cartedepeche.fr

Carp fishing at nightCarp fishing is allowed at night on specific grounds defined by prefectoral order - find them on our website, www.peche62.fr.

Reciprocal fishing agreementMany fishing associations and federations “pool” their fishing grounds through a reciprocal agreement to make it easier for anglers to obtain a permit and to create a much larger fishing area.

The URNE stamp16 départements have signed a reciprocal agreement to share all or part of their private fishing grounds and some AAPPMA grounds as well. If you have a Carte annuelle majeure fishing permit and you purchase an URNE stamp, you can fish in all the URNE grounds covered by the reciprocal agreement.

Selling your catchYou are not allowed to sell your catch.

Minimal catch sizeCatch size is measured from the tip of the jaw to the extremity of the tail. Fish shorter than the minimal size must be released immediately (see the table concerning fishing hours and minimal catch size).

The Open Tag Carna 2015 fishing contests

Following their success these past few years, the federation has decided to renew its two lure fishing contest for predatory fish anglers! Those were some of our partners for the 2014 edition:

Fishing for beginner and intermediate anglers For several years now, the FDAAPPMA 62 has been offering free workshops to all anglers throughout the département. Participants will be guided by a professional instructor, and all the necessary fishing tackle will be provided free of charge by the fishing federation. In order to participate to this workshop, you only need apply. Call 03 91 92 02 03 or send an e-mail to [email protected]

What about fishing on the Ternoise river?4 fishing associations along the Ternoise river have signed a reciprocal agreement so that anglers can enjoy an uninterrupted 23 miles of category 1 fishing grounds on the banks of the river. They are renown for their density in salmonids - which reproduce naturally - as well as large migratory fish such as Atlantic salmon and sea trout. On the Ternoise riverbanks, you can enjoy different fishing

techniques: fly-fishing, lure fishing, Czech nymphing… Come and fish for a day, or two, or more!

Fishing accommodationThe French fishing federation (FNPF) has established a label and its accompanying quality charter to help promote the development of fishing accommodation and services. The Fédération du Pas-de-Calais pour la Pêche et la Protection du Milieu Aquatique also applies this quality charter locally. Fishing accommodation must meet several criteria: it has to be close to fishing grounds, must be open during the

fishing season, must welcome anglers in a personal way and be ready to advise them and provide relevant leaflets and documentation. It must also offer services such as a locker or room for fishing tackle, packed meals, and make fishing easier by delivering fishing permits, informing anglers about current regulations and what the Fédération Départementale pour la Pêche has to offer. Here is a list of fishing accommodation that have applied for this quality label.

Invasive speciesCatfish, pumpkinseed sunfish and Eastern crayfish are invasive species that must be released under no circumstances. They must be killed before transport. Their introduction is prohibited. Their use as living or dead bait is strictly forbidden.

CatfishPumpkinseed sunfishEastern crayfish

Red-eared sliderThe red-eared slider, a species native from South-western USA, was legally introduced in France by aquarists.

MuskratAs an invasive species, muskrats have been present in the rivers of the North of France since the 1960s.

You can find hereunder a list of some of the grounds where persons with reduced mobility can fish.

Legal fishing hours Fishing starts half an hour before sunrise and stops half an hour after sunset.

Fishing FairSunday June 7th 2015, anglers will gladly teach you and your family how to fish! Thanks to the Pas-de-Calais département fishing federation and to the local fishing and aquatic environment conservation associations, everybody can learn how to fish in their local river and discover more about the aquatic habitat and the species that live in it.

For the occasion, the fishing federation will open a Fishing and Nature Fair right next to its new office on rue des Alpes in ARQUES.More on www.peche62.fr

Catch and release fishing groundsThe fishing federation created two grounds for catch and release fly-fishing: on the Créquoise river in Offin and on the Course river in Beussent. Both those grounds have a fishing limit of 5 anglers a day. Anglers must be registered to fish on these grounds, and can do so only ten times each year. They must call the Federation one week ahead of time to register in order to be allowed to fish there. The phone number is 03 91 92 02 03.

The eel conservation planIf you want to help us protect the endangered European eel and maintain its recreational fishing, you can fill in the questionnaire concerning eels posted on our website: www.peche62.frThis poll is also available as a printed document. Although you do not have to fill it, your help would be greatly appreciated. We remind you that you have to keep your official freshwater eel fishing form (carnet de pêche de l’anguille - CERFA form) with you when fishing, and record in it every single eel you catch, whether you release it or not.

Fish marked with spaghetti tags are monitored! The fishing federation has launched a study on how pikes behave in the Guînes and Ardres canals. A radio transmitter has been implanted in the abdominal cavity of 10 pikes. Their movements can be monitored very closely, thus allowing us to find out how many of them find spawning grounds, where these grounds are located, and how efficient reproduction is (number and survival rate of fry etc.). This information will allow us to design initiatives to restore the aquatic environment and ensure the survival of the species. The monitored spikes are easy to spot: their dorsal fin has been marked with a coloured spaghetti tag. We count on you to contribute to our study by releasing tagged pikes if you ever fish one!

Want to lend us a hand? What about participating in our study on the behaviour of predatory fish? In the the Carna Box kit we provide, you will find a special notebook to record your fishing sessions. Find out more on www.peche62.fr

* The Pas-de-Calais département is subjected to specific regulations concerning public category 2 fishing grounds. Any angler with a fishing permit valid in the département or with a URNE stamp is allowed to fish simultaneously with up to 4 poles. Please note that some fishing grounds overlap the Nord département, and that the 4-pole regulation does not apply there. Please check our website www.peche62.fr for more information.
