Lauren works primarily in ink and graphite on paper to express living with mental illness. The piece can represent a moment of tragedy or a gradual burning. Damage is quick or continuous and takes a lifetime to heal.

Maeve Doley is a Cleveland native currently living in the Waterloo Arts District. She is attending her senior year at Kent State Universi-ty, working towards her BFA, con-centrating in Jewelry Design and Metalwork. The “Mondrian Collar” was designed and created exclu-sively using 3d digital software. The piece is printed in translucent plastic to reference the multiple layers that create the color blocked paintings of Piet Mondrian.

I paint more so based on the reflection upon my interpretation of this world. This varies according to the emotion I feel about the beauty I see within these landscapes. I believe we are more connected to the natural world than we know and yet we are still slowly deteriorating the land and its beauty. So I paint these landscapes from observation, memory, sketches and even imagination to show the viewer the amount of beauty landscapes hold and how they can relate to everyone. I find some sort of symbolic narrative behind these landscapes.

Charlsa Hensley is a Drawing and Printmaking major at Kent State University, from Berea, Kentucky. Her work focuses on the relation-ship between our physical bodies and our mental selves, both the beautiful and the terrifying. Things Fall Apart uses the form of osteons found in compact bone tissue.

The biggest inspiration for my work is the world around me. I love to express things that I am passionate about in the pieces I create— Art is my most powerful voice.

I have always been attracted to intricate patterns, specifically sacred geometry and mandalas. In this piece I experimented with layering those patterns to see how they would interact with one another. Each layer spins at a different speed so the effect becomes quite meditative to watch and feel.

I discovered a system that allows me to manipulate form, space, and color using flat applications of line. This system can be sorted into a sub-genre of ab-straction called optical art. Lately, these illusions I create have been derived from self-satisfaction upon completion. Tricking the mind has always been of interest when it comes to the creation of art and the fact that my work can be misinterpreted by the senses excites me. This way of making art has become so familiar that I have formed a medita-tive relationship with the work. I never work from a sketch, I simply react to the previous color that I apply to the system.

Bridget Hoosic is a senior ceramics major at the University of Akron. She is often inspired by philosophy and religion. The Huitzilopochtli Tea Set animates the notion that the souls of Aztec warriors who died in battle would turn to hummingbirds and join their god.

When I work I have lots of paints that could end up getting wasted. The thin layer that is left at the bottom of a gal-lon rarely gets used and ends up hard or considered empty. Paint spoils and this was my attempt to find use for this paint. The paint already came from a recycled source so this is its 2nd recy-cle. Catching a photo of it in that quick moment before it becomes waste again.

Tyler Joy was born in 1989 in Massil-lon, Ohio and was raised in Canton, Ohio. He still lives in Canton and attends Kent State University. He is working towards his BFA in painting and should graduate in 2015.

She is the president of the Akron Painting League, which is a student organization that enriches the university painting community through activities such as critique nights, museum travels, and hosting visiting artists. Melissa is a portrait oil painter. Her work aims to turn anonymous people into iconic figures. She is interested in the lost histories of the found photographs she paints from

I am a second year student at Kent State University, working towards a BFA with a concentration in drawing and painting. My passion is my art, and it is my dream to draw and illustrate for a living. The piece on display in this show is actually a self portrait from before my college career, but I certainly still have a great deal of pride in it.

Victoria Moore is a senior Fine Art Textiles major at Kent State University. The concept for this work is the play of gradation in not only color but also in pattern. Weaving is the first in a series of works moving forward with my thesis.

Stephanie Mote is currently a full time student at Kent State University earning a BFA in Printmaking, a BA in Visual Communication Design, and a minor in Photo-Illustration. The piece BangBang is inspired by the organic look of a bullet hole piercing through glass. It has been reinterpreted using color and scale to show a transformation from destruction to beauty.

I am a junior in the textile arts program at Kent State. For this painting I chose this space because it will no longer exist in two years when Kent’s Center for the Visual Arts opens. I also chose this space to showcase a loom because for me that is where I fell in love with textile arts.

“Investigating both the figure and architecture through the use of portraiture, I am analyzing the shapes found within and created by the form and extrapolating upon that. The usage of singular figures captures a sense of isolation and solitude while the shadows cast against a blank space create the architecture. By examining the shapes created by the form, the psychology behind who these people are start to take shape.”

Kit Palencar resides in Medina, Ohio. Pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at The University of Akron, Palencar will graduate in 2015 and plans to attend The New York Academy of Art.

When I create my artwork, I think about the places and people who have inspired me and how. After spending a summer in Italy, I have been focusing on the beauty of the land abroad and how I want to express the colors and the different feelings I felt after seeing each town. I want to keep traveling the world and see every part of the magnificent land that God has created but paint it the way I view it.

I was first introduced to glass in 2011 at Kent State University, I fell in love with the medium and started pursuing my BFA in the Crafts program. “Satellite” was inspired by my fascination of the vastness of space and is a reflection of the need to explore and observe the unknown aspects of our surroundings.

Meagan Smith lives and works in Akron, Ohio pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting & Drawing from The University of Akron. She is involved in the Student Art League and Painting League at her school. Smith works with oils, acrylics, and collage materials simultaneously. To describe her process, it involves a series of different mark making, reacting and responding to a grid structure or surface underneath and activating the space. Smith has an upcoming solo exhibition in the Projects Gallery at Folk Hall April 17-24th. Her expected graduation date and senior show will be in December 2015.

Wei Zeng (1991,Guangzhou,China) is an undergraduate student at the University of Akron who mainly works with metalsmith. Her works are characterized by spread Eastern culture, like these Lotus brooches. Lotus is the features of Buddhism it spreads the idea to people to keep serenity first no matter what troubles you got. This is also Wei’s intention for these brooches, she hope people can got influence by her works and have great attitudes towards lives.

Currently, I am a junior at the University of Akron and I am exploring many different options for graduate study. “Fire Tunnel” was created with the theme in mind of decisions and metaphorical paths that people venture down throughout life. I used the magnificent technique known as Impasto to create this painting. It achieved the texture I needed to depict the feeling of the difficult choices we must make in life.
