I am delighted to be invited to tonight’s ceremony. Sport has played a massive part in my life and its value in underpinning educational development cannot be overstated. Participation in competitive sport builds character, engenders teamwork, creates a winning mentality and generally makes you a more rounded person.

Former England football team captain (77 caps/3 World Cups) and former Scottish Premier Club Manager including Inverness Caledonian Thistles and Hibernian FC.

I am very pleased to compère the Sports Awards for the second year in a row. Sport Solent athletes have performed extraordinary well this season. This event is such a great opportunity for Southampton Solent University students and staff, athletes, volunteers and coaches to get together and celebrate outstanding team and individual sporting successes.
