Community54 StevensPointArea.com

CommunityThe Stevens Point area is located in 800-square- mile Portage County, which sits in the center of the state at the crossroads of the Wisconsin River Valley and the Central Sands Region. When Stevens Point was founded in 1858, the logging industry and trading posts defi ned the community. Today, the city is home to headquarters for such companies as Delta Dental, Sentry Insurance, Travel Guard and Herrschners.

Established in 1894, the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point has been a cornerstone of the community. The 400-acre campus includes the Schmeeckle Reserve, Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame, Museum of Natural History and the Carlsten Art Gallery.

The Village of Plover, located at the crossroads of I-39 and Highway B, is the most populated village in Portage County. It is home to a variety of retailers and industries, 19 parks and the Korean War Memorial of Wisconsin at Lake Pacawa.

The Town of Plover is a great place to live, offering peaceful surroundings just minutes from shopping, dining and other businesses.

On the banks of the Tomorrow River, you’ll fi nd the Village of Amherst, a quiet but thriving community with a very strong sense of place. Amherst is home to the Tomorrow River State Trail, Lettie W. Jensen Community Center and Central Waters Brewing Company.

The countryside is dotted with small communities like Junction City, Almond, Rosholt, Nelsonville, Park Ridge, Whiting and Amherst Junction. The rural Lake DuBay area in northwestern Portage County offers many recreational opportunities and encompasses most of the townships of Eau Pleine, Hull and Dewey.
