With tuition assistance needs reaching the highest level ever, the Lafayette Catholic School System (LCSS) continues to make our scholarship and financial assistance programs a top priority for the Board of Trustees and the Advancement Office. Individual student awards have been significantly increased to make a LCSS education accessible to a diverse student population. Further initiatives are being undertaken to establish financial guidelines to ensure all newly-established named grants and scholarships will be fully funded in perpetuity. For the 2015-2016 school year, the school distributed more than $1,716,924 in financial assistance and scholarships to 503 of our students, with an average award of $3,413.

Listed below are the various scholarships and grants offered to our students through the support of our many alumni, parents and friends. Students who are able to attend LCSS because of the generosity of others truly enrich the school through their various backgrounds, talents and abilities.

LCSS is grateful to have a giving family community consisting of members from each of our six supporting parishes, alumni, current and past parents, grandparents, faculty/staff and friends. Our supporters are true partners by generously investing in Catholic education for all who desire it. As a private parochial school, the raising of significant funds is critical to our ongoing success. This takes shape in several forms: ongoing annual fundraising, capital campaigns, endowment funds, and deferred or planned gifts. Ongoing Annual FundraisingOngoing annual fundraising provides a meaningful portion of the dollars we offer in tuition assistance each year as well as critical support for our operations, co-curricular programs and activities, and facilities/maintenance needs. These efforts include:

• Spirit Fund Annual Appeal The annual Spirit Fund replaces the bi-annual One-in-the-Spirit Fund appeal and provides unrestricted financial support for the

entire school system. The appeal runs from July 1–June 30 each year. During this appeal, all supporters are asked to make a meaningful donation to make Catholic education possible and sustainable in Greater Lafayette.

• Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO)

An SGO is an Indiana state-sponsored program formed to grant financial assistance to K–12 children who meet certain eligibility and income requirements. Donors who contribute qualify for a 50% Indiana state tax credit and a federal tax deduction.

• Special Events

LCSS’s Advancement Office sponsors three special fundraising events each year. Your participation is essential in raising the critically-needed funding for areas deemed important by the school administration, committees and Board of Trustees. The 2016–2017 special events are:

Capital campaigns are required when LCSS needs to raise significant dollars to address extraordinary needs beyond that which is possible through regular annual funding efforts. Our last campaign, Building Faith & Futures II, raised more than $2 million in gifts and pledges. We recognize future capital campaigns will be required to increase the endowment funds, support critical building and grounds improvements, as well as other top priorities in Vision 2030.

• Endowment Funds

Endowment funds designated for the purposes of tuition assistance and faculty enhancement have been established through the Lafayette Area Catholic Schools Foundation, Inc. and Lafayette Diocesan Foundation, Inc. Funds designated for these purposes are professionally invested under the direction of the Investment Board, and the corpus is not touched. Named and/or memorial scholarships and grants have been established in coordination with the LCSS Advancement Office.

• Deferred or Planned Gifts

Deferred or planned gifts provide an important reinforcement for creating a sustainable Catholic school system financial model. The LCSS Advancement Office educates families regarding Planned Giving Opportunities:

Building Faith & Futures Phase II - Athletic Facility Campaign A $2.1 million campaign to upgrade one of the last cinder tracks in the state of Indiana, expand and improve student soccer facilities, add one building to house both permanent restrooms and the concession stand to serve track, football, soccer and baseball, upgrade the baseball complex seating/pressbox area, and bring nearly 20,000 more people to our campus each year.
