The Outlook

Glenn’s Corner

The impact of our church in the community of King is something that God is concerned about. In Matthew the 28th chapter Jesus said to go into all the world and make disciples. That means from Asia to right here in King. He wants us to impact this town for His Kingdom in a mighty way. I think that influence comes in several ways. By things we do for the community like the Back Pack Program we have begun to fund and deliver the weekend food. Our work with Samaritan’s Ministries and King Outreach. Help-ing others through hands on work like the annual Mission Blitz. We help this community spiritually by providing opportunities for worship and spiritual growth here at First Christian. Our Student and Children programs led by Lucas and Peter constantly have an impact on this community. We need to be in prayer for these men as they lead our Students and Children in their ministries. They effect many lives and families every week. The most important testimony to this community is you and I. A walking sermon is better than a verbal one any day. When people see how we live our lives it makes an impact on them positively or negatively. The goal of our walking sermon in the community is not to be a perfect monk that sepa-rates themselves from the world. It is to live our lives, faults and all, in this world. People will see us at our best and worst. God does not expect total perfection. Only Jesus accomplished that. He expects a heart that always seeks him, acknowledges mistakes and is always working to improve our lives for and in God’s way. I wanted to let you know Jack Barr will be our guest speaker on Sept. 20. Jack Barr is the author of a recent book, “Failure at Fatherhood”. He is also a native of King, a graduate of South Stokes High School and Johnson Bible College. He is married to Jana and has one child Marley. He is currently a teacher in Thailand. Love in Christ, Glenn

Luke’s Letter to the Flock

What a summer it was! We saw God work in mighty ways and I know that your students experienced what He had in store for them. From camp to the mission trip to the events we had here around the area...God Showed Up!!!! I want to give a special thank you to all the adults and sponsors who helped out over the past two months. Our busy summer schedule came to an end and you all have been wonderful at helping out and having a hand in God’s plan for these students. School is starting back and that sometimes gets hectic. I just want you to stay on your stu-dents and have them here around Godly friends and models. School starting back does not need to be a time when we take a break, but a time when we pull together! In September we have the MS and HS Beach Re-treat at Myrtle Beach and Game Night in the New Teen Room. In October we have the mission blitz and coming back this year...the Fall Festival! This is going to require lots of hands on deck. And yes that means we need your teens and you to make this work! We want to reach out to the community and share God’s love! Please be in constant prayer for these events. God has some awesome things planned for the next few months and I don’t want you to miss out!

CHILDREN’S Corner from Peter Hey kids it's hard to believe that the school year has begun. We’ve got a lot of great things coming up in September and October and I don't want you to miss out on the things that we are going to be doing. The Music Makers Christmas program practice begins September 13 at 6pm. The Music Makers choir is for 1st-5th graders. Watch your bulletin for the start time for our Cherub choir, ages 2-K. We have a Kids Fusion fun night kick off for K through fifth grade on Friday, September 18 from 6pm to 9pm. The cost is $5 a kid or $10 per family. Will have high-energy worship, awesome games like nine square in the air and so much more! So plan on being a part of that and make sure you sign up. Payment is due by September 13th. Saturday, September 19th, from 10am to 12pm we will be having our annu-al Drive-In for grades pre-K through 2nd grade. Lunch will be provided so please make sure you sign up. School-age kids don't forget “See you at the Pole” will be September 23. In October we also have a lot planned. Kids fusion will be Sunday night October 18 and our Fall Festival will be October 31. I hope you use the Fall Festival as an opportunity to bring your unchurched friends or friends without a church home. The Fall Festival should be a nonthreatening way to introduce them to your church family. I also want to encourage you to be thinking about how you may be able to help us with this outreach opportunity. ____________________________________________________________

The Backpack Program The BackPack program grew out of an initiative begun in Arkansas in the mid 1990’s. A local teacher noticed many of her students who did not have sufficient food at home were often sleepy in the classrooms. She approached the local rice producers to ask them to donate food to help feed the children and the BackPack Program was born. This nationwide program, administered under the umbrella of Feeding America, the nation’s largest network of food banks, has helped feed literally millions of hungry children throughout the US.

Foods for this program are purchased from the Second Harvest Food Bank of NWNC and come pre-packaged to provide two days of meals for a single child.

BACKPACK PROGRAM Sponsorship Opportunity to support Poplar Springs Elementary School

It only takes $200 to provide a child with meals every weekend of the school year. If you would like to sponsor a child make your check out to First Christian Church. You can do the whole $200 at once or make monthly payments

of $17.00. This is a tax deductible donation. We need volunteers to deliver the food to the school from the church on Thursday or Friday each week during the

school year. Sign up at the welcome center to help. See Tracy Mosley or Lisa Allen for complete information.
