MISSION STATEMENT
S amaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian
organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around
the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people
who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with
the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ. The organization
serves the church worldwide to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
DEAR FRIEND,
For more than 45 years, Samaritan’s Purse has answered the desperate cries for
help from victims of disaster, disease, poverty, famine, and war. In everything we
do, we seek to follow the Biblical example of the Good Samaritan, lifting up the
Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Last year, we responded to devastating earthquakes in Nepal and fierce cyclones
that pounded Myanmar and the small Pacific island of Vanuatu. We worked day
and night to meet the critical needs of the human tide of refugees fleeing from
terror and bloodshed in the Middle East. Hundreds of doctors served countless
hours in missionary hospitals. By God’s grace, we were able to reach more than
11 million hurting children with shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child,
and more than 1.2 million of them gave their hearts to Jesus through our
follow-up discipleship program, The Greatest Journey. These are just a few of
the ways we relieved suffering, brought hope, and shared the Gospel.
Nothing we do is more urgent than telling people about Jesus. He told us, “I must
work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can
work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world” (John 9:4-5). Thank you
for your faithful prayers and generous support as we continue to meet the needs of a
broken and sin-sick world. May God richly bless you.
Sincerely
Franklin Graham

on a Strong Foundation
The earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25 was the deadliest
disaster of 2015, rocking the world’s highest mountains and leaving millions homeless. As Samaritan’s Purse worked in Jesus’ Name to meet desperate needs in this former Hindu kingdom, God gave us opportunities to share about “a kingdom that cannot be shaken.” (Hebrews 12:28)

“That’s my house,” said a woman named Mithu, pointing at cracked and teetering stone walls on a mountainside in Nepal. “We can’t
live there anymore. It’s not safe for my children.”
Mithu and her family were among
millions in Nepal who lost their homes in
the 7.8-magnitude earthquake April 25, 2015.
They were cold, hungry, and living under a
patchwork tent when Samaritan’s Purse arrived
with food and blankets. “I am so happy you
came to help us,” Mithu said. “It gives us hope.”
In the days following the earthquake,
the Lord opened doors for us to reach over
60,000 families with food, kitchen
kits, tarps, blankets, hygiene items,
and other emergency supplies.
Our medical team traveled by U.S.
military helicopters to some of
the most remote and hardest-hit
regions to care for hundreds of
sick and injured survivors.
Relief work was complicated by
Nepal’s landlocked location in the
Himalayan mountains between
India and China, as well as by a
powerful aftershock that struck May
12. Within weeks of the disaster, we
chartered a series of relief flights
into the nation’s only airport and
transported 110 truckloads of emergency
supplies across the treacherous mountains into
the nation’s capital, Kathmandu.
As the annual monsoon rains
approached, we rushed to provide 24,000
families with materials to construct sturdy
temporary housing to give them safe and
dry places to live while they rebuild their
homes. The shelter kits they received
included metal sheeting and framework,
tarp, wire, gloves, and a toolkit.
Prem Kumari Gurung, 45, walked for
several hours with her family to obtain the
materials. She already had sold some of her
meager possessions to purchase sheet metal
for a new structure, but it wasn’t sufficient.
She was anxious about the future.
The shelter kit she received from
Samaritan’s Purse enabled her to finish
building their shelter. “I was worried about
how I was going to build a house,” she said.
“But now I have all of these things.
I am happy and relieved.”
In addition to shelters, we
have also provided clean water
and sanitation for schools and
tent camps, food for vulnerable
families, and other desperately
needed items for tens of
thousands of people. Our work to
provide physical relief in Jesus’
Name was noticed by Nepal’s
prime minister, who asked if we

immediately began working around the clock
to put together our 10th airlift of supplies,
including blankets and coats, from Charlotte,
N.C., to Kathmandu in mid-January 2016. The
items were flown by Nepali military helicopters
to small Himalayan villages over 8,000 feet
above sea level, where our staff distributed
them to thousands of desperate families.
Nepal’s home affairs minister, Shakti
Bahadur Basnet, joined our team in
delivering the relief supplies. “We would like
to deeply thank Samaritan’s Purse on behalf
of the people of the Nepal government and
the people here,” he said. “We’d like to thank
them from the bottom of our heart.”
We praise God for enabling us to share
the Gospel in word and deed with the
people of Nepal. As we continue to work
hand-in-hand with local churches there,
we look forward to even more opportunities
to share the compassion of Christ and the
Good News of salvation.
Christ lives in us, and we can show Him to others
through our actions. These two devastating earthquakes gave us opportunities as Christians to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way. As Nepali believers, we are trying to make an impact on people by expressing our faith in what we do as well as in what we say.
Samaritan’s Purse is helping us sow a seed for the Gospel by standing with and helping people in need. We see the Lord working in the hearts of
people, and I believe that in the fullness of time, we will see a transformation in Nepal. At the end of this rebuilding process, I think we could see thousands and thousands of people coming into the church because of the Christians who are
working here.We are praying, and we
urge others around the world to pray for our nation. We want to see people accept forgiveness for their sins and lives changed through Christ. We are asking God to let the people see Jesus in us.

with Samaritan’s Purse to help

percent of the people are Christians.

Crossing Overto a New LifeEvery day, thousands of refugees risk their lives in rubber
dinghies as they cross the Mediterranean straits from Turkey to Greece, leaving behind their terrorized homeland and looking to Europe for hope. On the other shore, Samaritan's Purse greets them in the Name of Jesus Christ and offers them what the Apostle Paul called “the way of peace” (Romans 3:17).
On the rocky shores of Lesvos, workers from Samaritan’s Purse welcome weary refugees from Syria.

MIDDLE EAST REFUGEES: Crossing Over to a New Life

The Greek island of Lesvos is barely two miles from the shores of Turkey,
but the cost of the sea crossing is almost unfathomable. Desperate refugees
fleeing from Syria and other Middle Eastern countries pay smugglers up to
$1,000 for the one-way trip, even though they know that thousands before them
have drowned as waves swamped overloaded rubber rafts.
By the time they arrive on the rocky shores
of Lesvos or other Greek islands, most are
shivering and soaked. And that’s where they
meet workers from Samaritan’s Purse who
greet them at the shores with physical relief
and the compassion of Christ.
We have been working for years in
the Middle East to help refugees fleeing
from conflict and terror in Syria and Iraq.
Last year, we deployed teams to several
countries in southeastern Europe to
minister to vulnerable families searching
for safety and a chance at a new life.
These refugees travel from Greece and
Macedonia via Serbia and Croatia on their
way to Austria and beyond. Along the way,
Samaritan’s Purse staff
and local partners work
hand-in-hand to provide
blankets, water, food, and
other basic necessities for
tens of thousands of people.
Refugees have multiple
contacts with Samaritan’s Purse
as they make their way through
Europe in places like Mytilene,
Athens, and Macedonia—all
places the Apostle Paul visited
during his missionary journeys.
In 2015, our teams fed 64,000
refugees and distributed 55,000
blankets and 133,000 bottles
of water. We also winterized
hundreds of temporary housing
units in Greece by installing heaters, floors,
and insulation.
Many of these Muslim refugees are eager
to hear the truth about Jesus. We have
established “Meeting Places” where Christian
workers who are fluent in Arabic and Farsi
share the Gospel, hand out Bibles, answer
questions, and pray with those who desire to
accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
At one refugee camp in Croatia, a man
from Iraq met one of our team members
outside a Muslim prayer tent. He had found
a Bible and had prayed that someone would
come to tell him more about Jesus. Our staff
member explained the Gospel to him and led
him in prayer to repent of his sins and accept
Christ into his heart.
A young mother from Syria arrived at
a train station in Austria carrying her
9-month-old baby and a Samaritan’s
Purse backpack filled with supplies. When
a local Christian woman offered to help
her, the mother asked, “Are you from

who had made a profound

The Austrian Christian
woman wrote to let us know that
she was able to reap the spiritual
harvest from the seeds the Lord
had sown through Samaritan’s
Purse. “She prayed with me to
receive Christ today!” she said. “It
was such a sweet, unexpected
moment, and I wanted to let
you know God is using you. I
believe that you being there at a
time when she had nothing, and
showing her God’s love through
your actions, allowed her heart to be open
today. Praise God and keep doing all you do
because God is working in amazing ways!”
We gave children backpacks filled with essentials they need during weeks of traveling.

As I was working one day, I
met four Iranian refugees. Speaking in their language, I asked them how they were, and the conversation was going so well that I was able to talk to them about Jesus Christ. They were touched, and one of them showed me the New Testament he had received from Samaritan’s Purse in Greece.
As we talked, another Iranian man came and said, “There are 70 to 80 others in that tent. You should tell them all about Christ.” We went to the tent, and everyone made a circle around me.
It was so loud that I had to shout so that they could hear me.
I didn’t have much time because these refugees were scheduled to leave on a train in 20 minutes. I quickly spoke about Christ’s sacrificial death for the forgiveness of sins, His triumphant resurrection, and the steps to peace with God. I then asked, “Who wants to pray the sinner’s prayer with me?” About 50 people loudly shouted, “I do!”
As these new brothers in Christ boarded the train, they were both laughing and crying with joy. I prayed that the peace of the Lord would go with them.
One of our staff members serving in southern Europe tells how he was able to share the Gospel at a transit camp and lead dozens of Iranian refugees to faith in Christ.

We praise God for giving Samaritan’s Purse more opportunities than ever before to share the Good News of Christ through our Operation Christmas Child project. This past year, we collected 11.2 million gift-filled shoeboxes and distributed them through churches and Christian partners to children in 104 countries.
Over 8.7 million of these gifts were
packed in the United States and
dropped off at more than 4,000 locations
across the country. Over 109,000
volunteers served at eight processing
centers to inspect, sort, and prepare
the shoeboxes for shipment overseas

poverty, war, disaster, or disease.
As Christians around the world hand
out the boxes in their communities, they

Operation Christmas Child is carried out across Moldova
through more than 500 local church partners. Our vision is to reach each child with the Gospel—and through the children to reach the parents with the Good News of redemption through Christ. We are even able to share in schools!
We are happy that we can provide the children with these presents. Since Moldova is a former Soviet country, many children have never had gifts before. However, it is not just about the presents. When children from other countries prepare and send these shoeboxes for us to hand out, we are able to show the boys and
girls here that God loves them.More than 11,000 children in
Moldova who received shoebox gifts last year were invited to participate in The Greatest Journey. As a result, we have had opportunities to share the Gospel with many children, and their parents. We would not have these open doors without Samaritan’s Purse.

I was finishing up a C-section when one of my colleagues
poked her head in the door. “Kristen, we have someone that was just brought to the hospital. She is hemorrhaging, and her hemoglobin is 4. She delivered the baby in the bush sometime this morning.”
The patient was rushed into the operating room for the hysterectomy she needed to save
her life. I stood over the table praying for her as everything was prepared. Thank God, she survived the surgery and the tense hours that followed.
I went to see her the next morning. She looked up and smiled when I sat on the edge of her bed. She was overjoyed to hear that her newborn baby was okay. I told her that we had prayed over her and that
God had spared their lives. Her husband was sitting beside her. I began telling them about Jesus. I described His love for them and how He had orchestrated all of the details so that she could live.

From the Carolinas to California, our U.S. Disaster Relief crews worked in 14 states in 2015 and helped over 1,400 families recover from floods, tornadoes, and other disasters. More than 9,000 volunteers cleaned out mud and debris, tarped roofs, salvaged keepsakes, and cleared the way for families to rebuild.
Samaritan’s Purse also rebuilt or repaired

I woke up about 4:30 Sunday morning (Oct 4), looked outside,
and saw that water was already up to the front steps. I knew I had to act quickly, so I started putting stuff on the beds. About 20 minutes later, water gushed up through the floor. I had to get out, so I grabbed my pets, threw them into the car, and left.
I was able to return on Monday. The flood line had reached about five feet in the house. The floors
and walls were totally wet. Mud and silt were everywhere. A man from Samaritan’s Purse walked by and asked if I needed help. I told him I didn’t know what to do, where to go, or how to start getting things back together. He said, “Don’t worry about it. That’s why we’re here. We’ll take care of you.”
In this crisis, the Samaritan’s Purse army of volunteers became my rainbow—the promise of God after the flood.
When they first came to work on the house, I had just been crying. I saw them walking toward my home, and I said, “That’s my
rainbow!” Seeing their faith in action strengthened my faith. I’m so thankful. I could not have done this alone.

and we have seen many come to faith in
Christ through this program. Last summer,
92 people accepted Jesus as Savior and 109
were baptized. Dozens of
couples also rededicated their
marriages—recommitting
themselves to each other and
to the Lord.
The time in Alaska is just the
beginning of our ministry to
these American heroes. Our
after-care outreach continues
year-round through personal
contact from our staff,
local meetings with fellow
participants, and our Fortify
Your Marriage regional events. More than 185
couples attended two reunion weekends held
at the Billy Graham Training Center at The
Cove in Asheville, N.C.
I had been battling with my faith for a very long time. When I
came home from my deployment, Brittany was constantly repeating, “We should find a church; we should find a church.” I would always avoid it.
When I was feeling bad and in a dark place, my 5-year-old son would say, “Daddy, Jesus loves you. You know that, right?” The Holy Spirit was tugging at me, but I ignored it. I turned my back to it.
During our week at Operation Heal Our Patriots, I realized that it was time for me to surrender and give my life to Christ. I was tired of fighting. I was tired of turning my back. I was tired of letting him down. I knew I had to make a decision, take a leap of faith, and accept Jesus into my life and my marriage.
I want to thank you guys for everything that you do. Operation Heal Our Patriots is very special.

THEN JESUS ANSWERED AND SAID:
A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell
among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded
him, and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by
chance a certain priest came down that road. And
when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the
place, came and looked, and passed by on
the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he
journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw
him, he had compassion. So he went to him and
bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and
he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn,
and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he
took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to
him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when
I come again, I will repay you.’ So which of these three do
you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”
And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.”
