“FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS”
Happy 4th
of July July 2016
The Pride of Our Country
Author: Roger Robicheau
Today as before, our brave do fight for a land
they love, a flag so right. The pride of our
country, yes they are the strength of our nation,
best by far.
Just as our brave from each war gone by, they
march for us proudly, flag held high. From all
over this land they come to serve, they’re
taught by the best, this they deserve.
When troops give all, the world does see,
whether serving on land, in the air or at sea.
The pride from this country, march through
war with home drawn strength, held deep in
their core.
Our best are so awesome, their loved ones well
know, may God guide their journey where they
--–for us---go.
What these brave must have is support from
their own, the love from their people and firm
thankfulness shown. Our greatest achievement
is that we’re still free, please take time and
ponder who caused this to be.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!
Happy 4th of July!....
Let's get this started now, So it will be out there on the fourth!
I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE
TO THE FLAG,
OF THE UNITED
STATES OF AMERICA ,
AND TO THE REPUBLIC, FOR
WHICH IT STANDS,
ONE NATION UNDER GOD,
INDIVISIBLE,
WITH LIBERTY
AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!
For all of our military personnel,
where ever they may be.
Please Support all of the troops defending
our Country.

Riddle of the Month
Thought I would throw in a brain teaser and see if you can guess the answer!!
Answer will be on another page of this newsletter….
Riddle…..What is often returned but never borrowed?
from Tom’s desk.
HELLO SOUTHFORK.
I AM WRITING THIS THE DAY AFTER THE MASS MURDERS IN ORLANDO. IT IS HARD TO
IMAGINE THIS HAPPENING IN OUR COUNTRY. I DON'T BELIEVE WE HAVE AN ANSWER FOR
IT. THERE ARE SO MANY GUNS IN THIS COUNTRY IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO RECALL ALL
OF THEM. THE CRIMINAL’S AND THE MENTALLY CHALLENGED FOR SURE WOULD NOT GIVE
THEM UP. SO, WE MUST KEEP OUR EYES AND EARS OPEN AND REPORT ANY SUSPCIOUS
PERSONS OR ACTIVITIES.
WE WERE UP IN OHIO FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS. IT WAS A GOOD TIME AND WE HAD GOOD
WEATHER. WE VISITED MY MOM WHO IS ONE HUNDRED YEARS OLD, ALSO HAD A
GRADUATION AND A SISTERS AND BROTHER REUNION ON JUDY'S SIDE OF THE FAMILY.
I UNDER STAND THE POT LUCK FOR MEMORIAL DAY WENT WELL. THANKS TO ALL THAT
HELPED.
ON JULY 4TH WE ARE HAVING A STEAK COOK OUT WITH ENTERTAINMENT. THE COST IS $7.50
PER PERSON. YOU MUST BUY YOUR TICKET IN ADVANCE SO WE KNOW HOW MANY STEAKS
TO BUY. JIM McADAMS BOB ELDERS AND TOM GEYER HAVE TICKETS.
THE WEATHER IS HOT SO WATCH YOU OUTDOOR ACTIVITIIES AND DON'T OVER HEAT.
MY DOOR IS ALWAYS OPEN. TOM
ALL GAVE SOME, SOME GAVE ALL Sharing time with family and dear friends!
Mike Gallagher led residents and guests in The Pledge of Allegiance. 60 residents and guests stood proudly
to salute our flag. Faye led us in tribute and prayer, thanking all who served, and now serve, thankful for our
freedom. Grace was also said, thanking Him for our food.
Table numbers were randomly called, and each resident filled their plates with wonderful chicken, and all the
specialties our resident cooks surprise us with. I for one enjoyed a taste of all.
And then there was that dessert table. Who took such precious time to share their delightful red, white,
and blue cake? Thank you. Always thankful to be a part of a strong, unified community. Hope to see all at
our next event, and as always, GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Women’s Club monthly Breakfast June 1st, 2016
Decisions, decisions, decisions. What to order for breakfast? As you can
view, a great number of gals showed up for our monthly breakfast get
together. As always, a pleasant time with friends and neighbors. Amazing,
one can live on the same street for some time, and not know you have
wonderful, pleasant people so near by. We all enjoyed conversation, shared
knowledge, and thoroughly enjoyed each other's company.
Keeping our community active, charitably and socially. I am always amazed
what a great bunch of gals we have in our community. See you next month for
another get together. In the meantime, be well.

JULY, 2016 IN SOUTHFORK (By Jean Deiss 863-602-1525)
We are putting the “Babe” pictures on hold for a couple of months. Sorry - we will be
back! Many residents are gone north and I’m leaving for several weeks also.
However, I continue to need your help to supply those photos for future Southfork
Newsletters! (Sandi and I will be discussing a way for you to vote on the mystery
“little ones” in upcoming issues!) Happy July 4th
to all and happy birthday to all the
July Hotties!
IT’S TIME TO REVEAL OUR JUNE “BABES”
#1 – This little baby doll is BARBARA GERRISH! She was born Barbara Hartmann on July 29th
, in
Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania! She and Harry moved to Palomino Drive in May, 2015. They’ve been
married 28 years with two children and five grandchildren. Barbara worked in the advertising business
for many years and retired from the medical field – having worked in various doctor offices. Now that
takes a lot of experience and knowledge of the medical profession. Barbara loves exercising (you’ll
see her often pounding the streets of Southfork) and she loves just “plain ole relaxing!” She also
enjoys art and is an active member of the Southfork activities committee, with lots of great ideas that
keeps us all active. Whew…..I’m tired, Barbara! Slow down!
#2 –The curly que cutie is a native Floridian and our one and only JERRY MCCLELLAN! Jerry was born
in St. Augustine, Florida, July 30th
. He and wife Sherry moved to Maverick Drive in May, 2013. Our “Mr.
Do It All Guy” - Jerry, has an identical twin sister! Trust me – they are identical! You could tell by the
bandage on Jerry’s arm in his baby picture, that he has a “getter done” attitude – even then. He is a
professional electrician and retired from IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker 915)! He
has one daughter and two grandchildren. Jerry and Sherry have shared 13 years of wedded bliss!
Jerry enjoys music, dining out, fishing and bowling. He plays a guitar and sings – country and gospel
music! I believe Jerry should get together with some of the other Southfork musicians/rockers and
have a really great “jam session” sometime! Can I get a big YES?
#3 –If you didn’t get this one, you haven’t been around in our community. Our famous DOT CADY - born
August 29t h
in Randolph, Massachusetts as Dorothy Follis. Dot moved from Maine to Brahman Drive 15
years ago. She was widowed after 49½ years of marriage with four children, five grandchildren, and
six great-grandchildren (a set of twins born recently). She worked for NTT Electronics Company and
was Treasurer in two cities in Maine. Dot graduated from Business College (while raising three girls) at
age 52! She also taught accounting. Her 30-year dream was to build a log home in Maine, which they
did but she had to move closer to the city due to the remote area and bad weather. There’s not a card
game that she doesn’t enjoy every day. (I ain’t playing with you Dot – you gotta be too good! ) She’s
also a great fan of music. We know Dot as one of our past Southfork Association Presidents. She was
detrimental and successful in getting the stop lights installed at the new intersection of Route 98 and
301. So many people were injured and others lost their lives there before the changes. Thanks Dot for
all you’ve done and continue to do – you’re a real super star in Southfork! Oh – stop in to see “George” –
he is a real trip!! Love that bird, although he is grouchy sometimes!
Email me anytime regarding your input. I sure would appreciate that! ([email protected])
Chuckle of the Month
Four old retired guys are walking down a street in Yuma, Az. They turn
a corner and see a sign that says, “Old Timers Bar – All drinks 10
cents”. They look at each other and then go in, thinking-this is too
good to be true. The old bartender says in a voice that carries across
the room, “Come on in and let me pour one for you! What’ll it be gentlemen?”
There’s a fully stocked bar, so each of the men orders a martini. In no time, the
bartender serves up four iced martinis-shaken, not stirred-and says, “That’ll be 10
cents each, please.” The four guys stare at the bartender for a moment, then
at each other. They can’t believe their good luck. They pay the 40 cents, finish
their martinis, and order another round. Again, four excellent martinis are
produced, with the bartender saying, “That’s 40 cents, please.” They pay the 40
cents, but their curiosity gets the better of them. They’ve each had two martinis
and haven’t even spent a dollar yet.
Finally one of them says, “How can you afford to serve martinis as good as these
for a dime apiece?” “I’m a retired tailor from Phoenix,” the bartender says, and
I always wanted to own a bar. Last year, I hit the lottery jackpot for $125 million
and decided to open this place. Every drink costs a dime, Wine, Liquor or Beer-
it’s all the same. “Wow! That’s some story”, one of the men says. As the four of
them sip at their martinis, they can’t help noticing seven other people at the end
of the bar who don’t have any drinks in front of them and haven’t ordered
anything the whole time they’ve been there. Nodding at the seven at the end of
the bar, one of the men asks the bartender, “What’s with them?”
The bartender says, “They’re retired people from Florida. They’re waiting for
Happy Hour when drinks are half-price”.
