THE CYGNUS
GAZETTE
Dear Parents, Imagine an 8 year old child. Fast forward 20 years. The year 2036, she will be making her way in a job somewhere in the world. The jobs we know today will be different, in fact they may not even exist in the year 2036. Thus we, the school and parents, are preparing our children for a future in a world which we are not sure about. But there are five points that we can look at with certainty. 1) Change will be the only constant. In such a scenario the individual with a deep desire to learn stands a higher probability of emerging successful. At Cheviot Kids and Cygnus we constantly endeavour to provide a learning environment which is challenging, innovative, rewarding and fun. From an early age children have a positive mindset towards learning. 2) Competition will be fierce. The world will soon become one. The free market will allow players from every corner of the globe. Only the fittest will survive. At our school we provide opportunity for competition and exhibiting ones talent throughout the school year. We encourage participation for all but also groom excellence. 3) Communication skills will be ranked right at the top. Communication : written, spoken and increasingly visual communication, using technology will be highly valued. Building effective communicators has always been a core focus at Cygnus. Right from the foundation years children are provided endless platforms where they can build on and enhance their spoken, written and visual communication. Technology is the Cygnus way. 4) Earth in danger. As the planet battles sustainability issues “Green” will be a buzz word. Cygnus is the proud holder of the Platinum award from IGBC India and The Gold award from Leeds USA. The children are constantly sensitised towards the environment by being part of this campus and other activities taken up by the school. 5) Intra personal relationships and sensitivity: Collaborative working will be the only way forward. Remember there is no “I” in team. Working in groups at Cygnus, value based study and various field trips help in personal sensitivity. Tolerance and teamwork are continually emphasised. Let us continue to work together towards preparing our children for a world, not as we see it today, but as
we see it years from today.

At Cygnus, students learn the ability to structure and express their
ideas clearly, get over stage fear, learn to work as a team and are able
to find their own likes and interests. All these qualities were evident
during the class presentations. The students had put in lots of efforts
under the able guidance of their teachers to make all the presentations

“OUT & ABOUT”
At Cygnus World School field trips are recognized as important moments in learning; a shared social experience that provides the opportunity for students to encounter and explore novel things in an authentic
setting. Cygnites were taken to Balloon and Toothbrush manufacturing units, to Aviary where it was interesting to know that two of our students have adopted the Grey African Parrot. Students were also taken to Deaf & Dumb School to
expose students to new experiences to develop compassion and empathy. “Out & About” trips assert “deepen and enhance” classroom learning and a curriculum that extends beyond the walls of the classroom results in effective gains such as more positive feelings and experiences that
can be recalled and are
useful after the visit as well.

Child Labour The practice of work done by under age child for making his/her family capable to survive in this world with basic needs is called “Child Labour”. This is now the biggest concern for
whole world as children is the future of nation and if a child’s future is healthy, safe and secure then automatically nation’s
future will be bright and successful. Child Labour is very harmful for young ones in order to their physical, moral and mental development. Though many
reasons are there for child slavery or child trafficking but survey says that main cause of Child Labour are high level poverty and lack of access to good education. Development of the country is directly affected by this crime and Child Labour
is a big reason of under-development of the country. A financially developed country provides all circumstances to its citizens that can help in making their new generations
educated and healthy. India is the 2nd highest populated country in the world with
around 40% children under age 18 in which half of the total number are engaged in this crime of Child Labour. A huge number of poor parents are still not aware of the disadvantages of Child Labour that affects their children in
terms of their education, health, physical, mental and social
growth. We all should come together for tackling this one of the biggest problem ‘Child Labour’ and bring happiness and joy to
our child’s face and Nation.

The BIG Question ???
A LOT TO LOOK FORWARD TO… Upcoming events - Cygnus Fest, The Pinnacle (Inter School Competition), Children’s Day and many other fun facts, quizzes, news etc.
Vishwa: Name 3 words that describe you.
Hadrian Sir: Passionate, Enthusiastic, Creative
Vishwa: What type of student were you in high school?
Hadrian Sir: As a student in high school, I was
very studious and determined yet mischievous.
Vishwa: What are your interests outside teaching?
Vishwa: What is your philosophy on teaching?
Hadrian Sir: Apart from teaching, I love to
travel and explore the world.
Hadrian Sir: My philosophy is to impart knowledge what I have gained and engrave that knowledge
in the future generation.
Vishwa: As a child, what were your opinions about teachers and how do they differ now?
Getting to Know My Teacher — Hadrian D Cruz (Examination Coordinator)
Educators Opinion Kanchan Joshi (Principal) says “CCTV cameras are installed in schools to ensure safety and security of students. These are not required inside the classrooms since there is no threat to the same there. I feel doing
so is an infringement of both the student’s and the teacher’s privacy and it promotes an atmosphere of
distrust in the schools.” Kiran Kumar Suthar says “As a senior educator the thought of having cameras does not appeal to me. Yes it’s a good tool to monitor things like theft and possibly academic dishonesty especially in higher grades. But
benefits really do not outweigh privacy concerns.”
Priyanka Shah says “I think a classroom is a sacred and a private place of wisdom and light. In my opinion
installation of CCTV would curb a teacher’s as well as a child’s individuality, uniqueness and their overall
development. It cannot substitute for the personal care and observation done by a teacher for each child in a classroom.”
Students Opinion Dilkush of XI-A says “Corridors and common access points should have CCTV cameras to maintain discipline. It ensures that seniors are not bullying the juniors. The Principal can take control sitting in her
office.”
Shanthanu Nambiar of V-A says “No, we should not have CCTV cameras because we also want some
freedom. No one wants to be monitored every single minute. We need some privacy and freedom!!”
Hadrian Sir: When I was a child, my teacher were not so friendly, they were extremely strict. But
now a days there is a vast difference. Teachers now are friendly and they understand students.
Teachers now are broad minded.
Should schools consider having CCTV cameras in each classroom?
