In his third year as chairman of the Board of Trustees, John Sawyer is proud of what Webb has accomplished during the past year (July-June).

First he couldn’t be more excited about the success of the Moving Our Tradition Forward campaign and Webb’s future, completed in December 2016. The campaign goal was $10.0M, and the total received was $11.1M.

He noted that with any campaign, the biggest challenge is the unknown. “Coming off a fairly long period since the last capital campaign, we sim-ply did not have a good baseline to judge what was attainable. Through the efforts of our Development Office and the dedication and skills of several Trustees we did our best to estimate what would be achievable. Due to the confidence and ability of these groups we actually set our goals higher than those estimates; achieving our goal serves as a mean-ingful tribute to the Webb Family!”

Sawyer noted there were several wonderful highlights at the end of the campaign. “The completion of the fundraising in honor of Dorothy El-kins to name the new student center was special. More than 200 donors gave at all levels to make this project a success.” Another successful mini-campaign was the new endowed chair in Foreign Language named for Woody Sims. Mme Moira Smith, the chair’s first recipient, was

honored along with the Sims family in March of 2017.

Participation at all levels by 599 members of the Webb community led The Webb Fund to reach $478,113. Although less than the previ-ous year's record, this represents real impact at the school--$1,500 in resources per student. Of note was the Belles and Buckles Gala which had a record year of support, exceeding $100,000 in total receipts, and donating more than $80,000 back to the school. Webb Fund Chair Ben Blakeley ’93 completed his second year as a volunteer, and Webb Follin ’73 is spearheading the effort this year as Webb Fund chair.

“Overall, the final numbers for last year show how generous the Webb community is”, said Sawyer. About 16% of our budget is funded by annual donations and income received from our endowment. “While the need and demand for high-level secondary education has never been greater, meeting that demand is an ongoing challenge. Going forward, this level of funding from donors helps position Webb for our forthcom-ing 150th anniversary and places us on sound financial footing. “Thank you to everyone in the community for your support of Webb and your commitment to education.”
