Administrator s Message

Well, that was a learning experience! On Mar 30,

the Virginia American Water Authority, in

Hopewell, had an incident at the plant that caused

low or no water pressure, water restrictions and lat-

er, boil water notices. This incident occurred on the

day of our Friday night dinner, which happened to

be the highly desired Prime Rib night. After speak-

ing with sources close to the water authority and

board officers, the decision was made to close the

lodge entirely. This decision was made in interest

of food safety and handling and the welfare of our

members. Our new electronic sign was immediately

filled with emergency notification messages regard-

ing our status. The lodge voicemail was updated

daily. Our dedicated volunteer communications

staff, immediately went to work sending out Face-

book posts not only on the status of the lodge but

on the status of the water authority and the city of

Hopewell. After closing the lodge, along with other

establishments in the city, we received a notice

from the Health Dept., advising of precautions and

steps to take regarding serving and sanitary require-

ments.

Based on this information, we made the difficult

decision to cancel the Easter Egg party and Valued

Veterans meeting on Saturday. Saturday morning,

after receiving updates from the water authority, the

decision was made to reopen at 4pm. Precautions

were put in place and all staff were briefed on prop-

er and safe serving and preparation of foods. The

lodge returned to full service on Sunday Apr 2.

The board of officers has been tasked with writing

an Emergency Action Plan for the lodge, something

never undertaken before. The board currently has

evacuation plans for the lodge written and are

awaiting finalization. We are formatting the re-

sponse to this water incident, for the EAP. The

door to the Social Quarters will remain closed AT

ALL TIMES, as a step in our EAP,

. Brad Ozmore, Administrator

Governors Message

As we enter the new year of our LOOM Board

of Officers, there is much work to do but aid-

ed by the years of work of those before us. It

is the duty of this Board of Officers, these vol-

unteers that work hard, to do the best and most

that they can do to benefit: our Lodge, mem-

bers, community and our Moose charities.

These gentlemen are dedicated to doing what

they can to make our Moose, the best it can

be. However, this is made easier when we

have the support and involvement of our

members. Please don't set back and watch,

get involved. You can do this by volunteer-

ing, participating and attending meetings and

events. A task for one is made far easier with

the power of many.

As we move forward through the next year,

this LOOM Board of Officers is dedicated to

making our Lodge a better, safer and more

enjoyable home for all. We have already be-

gun this with the upgrade to the Kid's Room

with at 16 FT TV, (yep, 192 inches), the paint-

ing and new floor of our entrance way, the

addition of the electronic signage near our

property entrance, the addition of more VTab

machines, addition of Friday Night Live enter-

tainment and more future updates consisting

of the repaving of our parking lot and possibly

more updates to come.

Your Lodge, My Lodge, Our Lodge, it is what

we make of it. Don't just bring a complaint,

bring a suggestion & be prepared to contribute

to the fix.

Fraternally,

Brian Carpenter, Governor

Thank you to

EVERYONE who

helped with the

“Quarter Auction”

fundraiser. With your

help, we were able to

raise over $1,200.00

of much needed funds.

The auction required

A LOT of manpower

to get it off the

ground, and for the actual event itself. Thank you to all who donated items, helped make paddles,

helped set-up & organize (all that loading & lifting!!!), to those of you who helped share the event on

social media, helped work all the stations (14 volunteers that night), and prepare baked goods and food

for concessions. Lastly, thank you to everyone that attended and help support this fundraiser, and to the

Men’s Board of Officers for allowing us to use the ballroom and provide the storage of the items for

several weeks prior. I would also like to personally thank Marvin & Barbara Nester for sharing this

unique idea for fundraising with me. Together, we all made it happen!

With Much Appreciation,

Dawn Ozmore

“Teamwork is the ability to work together to-

ward a common goal. The ability to direct indi-

vidual accomplishments toward organizational

objectives. It is the fuel that allows common

people to attain uncommon results.” - Andrew

Carnegie

“Volunteer of the Quarter”

Congratulations to TANJU SONUPARLAK, for being named “Volunteer of the Quarter”. For over four years,

Tanju has assisted the lodge kitchen with Bingo sessions; running food orders, assisting with food preparations, and lending a helping hand wherever she is needed. She

always arrives with a smile and makes an effort to greet everyone in her path with a kind word. Our lodge is open seven days a week, and we have activities and events al-

most daily. We depend on volunteers like her, in order to function seamlessly. Thank you Tanju, for your time that you have generously given to our lodge. We appreciate

you.
