Dear Members,

CHANGE Verb| /CHānj/ :To become different :To make (someone or something) different :To become something else

The world of private clubs is ever evolving, just as the rest of the world is. Change is not always easy for us to accept, but when we embrace it, wonderful things can happen. Certainly without changes here at SLOCC we would not be the vibrant successful Club that we are today. Fifteen years ago if you said we want to put a full service fitness center at a country club you would have gotten a lot of funny looks at the least. Now every Club that can, has built a fitness center (and many have already expanded it) and the other are trying to figure out how to build one. Seven or eight years ago adding bocce courts at a country club would have made you a candidate for the funny farm. Now it ranks in the top 3 capital improvements being built or considered at clubs nationwide and especially in California. One of our changes for 2017 will be in the area of communications. We will be updating our website to be more user friendly, adding additional features to our cell phone app, making our weekly Eblasts much more robust and we will cease publishing a monthly newsletter. We’re replacing the newsletter with SLOCC’s own lifestyle magazine which will be published quarterly and sent to every members home. Look for the first edition next month. To ensure you receive the magazine, please make sure we have your current mailing address. As you know SLOCC has changed considerably in the past 8 years. We have become a diverse family Club with a vibrant membership composed of individuals from all walks of life. I encourage you to meet your fellow members and

hear their story and share your own! How do I get involved and meet more members? There are lots of ways. You can attend one or more of the 50 plus social events already on our calendar for 2017. You can play in a men’s or women’s golf tournament, take a fitness class, participate in a tennis clinic, join a team for the spring bocce league or jump into a pickleball game. Our staff is more than happy to help integrate you into any of the many programs we have. I look forward to 2017 being another great year for San Luis Obispo CC and I hope it’s a wonderful year for each of you as well. Mike Stanton CCM General Manager/COO

As the New Year begins, we would like to thank our members for making this past year a great one. The tennis staff is very thankful for such an involved membership. Last year, we had a great Club exchange with Las Posas CC, all our Club Championships were competitive. We also had another successful Calcutta.

For 2017, we will be participating in a Club exchange program with other Central Coast Clubs. We have an April exchange with Spanish Hills, and in May we are hoping to go to Ojai Valley Inn as a Club getaway. We hope to serve you even better in 2017 and that all your holidays went well.

14 of our juniors went down to Palos Verdes in Los Angeles with Bill Dunkle to compete against the Jack Kramer Club juniors. They got in about 7 hours of tennis! There were lots of competitive singles and doubles played over the weekend. For fun, the kids got to go to Sky Zone trampoline park and have a sleepover at the JKT Club. It was a fun and busy weekend.

In 2016 the fitness center’s attendance was 26,900 this beat 2015 previous record of 25,700. The continued increase in the fitness center usage is a testament that fitness is a growing priority. We want this interest to continue into 2017 and January is the time to get back on track and get fit. Many people start with good intentions; a fitness regimen, but often fail. The main reasons most fail is they do not have the right workout routine or unable to commit to a scheduled workout time. To prevent both of these pit falls I recommend working with a trainer or joining one of our specialized workout groups. A trainer will personalize a workout to fit your needs, help to motivate and by scheduling the workout you now have someone helping making you accountable. The best part about group training is that the workouts are supervised and there is an added social element which provides additional motivation. Some of the groups we have are Myki’s CoreHfit and Fit4LIfe, Whitney’s Ladies Golf work out, Whitney’s & Lisa’s New YearHNew You, Rob’s Jumpstart Challenge (starting in February), Marina’s Reformer Training and Kiley’s Yoga workshops. We have trainers and groups to fit every need. Stop by the Fitness Desk or email for questions: [email protected]@[email protected]@slocc.net. JJJJUMPUMPUMPUMP SSSSTARTTARTTARTTART CCCCHALLENGEHALLENGEHALLENGEHALLENGE This will be the third year for this event and the success stories from each year shows how great this program is. The Jumpstart Challenge will take place starting in February and end midHMarch. To signHup, stop by the Fitness Center and fill in your name on the signHup sheet posted across from the Fitness Desk. We will contact those that are interested and set the information meeting date. At this meeting the trainers outline the program and explain the commitment. They will also set for the first weigh dates, dates of challenges, team workouts and private training sessions. We try to organize the participants with teammates and trainer that best match each other’s schedule. This is best way to start the New Year with a commitment to getting in shape, losing a few pounds, with the support of teammates and a coach.
