Established in 1977 when Joe Breeze hand-built the first modern mountain bikes, Breezer Bikes is the world’s first mountain bike company . Joe’s revolutionary designs can be seen at the Marin Museum of Bicycling and Mountain Bike Hall of Fame in Marin, California (USA); the Shimano Museum in Osaka, Japan; and Breezer #1 – the very first modern mountain bike – is on permanent display at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC

(USA) .

TRANSPORTATION

In 2003, Joe Breeze shifted his focus to transportation bikes . Breezer is, therefore, also the original American transportation bike brand . Winning six Bicycling Mag-azine Editors’ Choice awards over the past eight years, Breezer transportation bikes represent the pinnacle of modern transportation bike design and receive the

same attention to detail as every Breezer mountain bike .

Breezer History

1974 Joe Breeze begins building his own custom-tailored road racing frames .

1976 The first downhill off-road race – Repack – is held on October 21, 1976 . Ten riders take part, and all ride repurposed Schwinn “Klunkerz” from the 1930s and ‘40s .

1977 Joe designs and builds the world’s first modern mountain bike: Breezer #1 .

• • •

1978 Joe builds nine more “Breezers .” Nothing like a Breezer has been seen before, and these first 10 Breezers mark the birth of the modern mountain bike .

1980 Joe designs the first-ever unicrown fork, introduced on the 1981 Kelly-Fisher mountain bike Montare .

1981 Joe further refines his mountain bike designs and releases 25 Series II Breezers .

1996 Joe introduces his first commuter bike: the Ignaz X . The “Iggy” uses a Nex-us internally geared hub and is modeled after the Schwinn Excelsior frames origi-nally used at Repack 20 years earlier . It is named as a tribute to Ignaz Schwinn, the founder of Schwinn Bicycle .

D’FUSION TUBING

Breezer D’Fusion Tubing strengthens Breezer bicycles with a unique D-shape profile on the top tube and downtube – near the head tube intersection – and at the top tube-seat tube intersection . Significant stress travels through these joints, and D’Fusion Tubing’s broader cross section diffuses that load over a wider area, reducing the risk of fatigue . In the rear triangle, D’Fusion adds rigidity to the chainstays through a wider cross section, while positioning the broad area outboard to reduce chain suck . D’Fusion Tubing eliminates ride deadening and heavy gussets and lets the tubing do the lightweight and lively work it was designed to do .

APEX DISC MOUNT

The Breezer Apex Disc Mount puts the rear brake caliper on the chainstay . The increased diameter of the chainstay provides a huge increase in torsional rigidity over the smaller seatstay . Not only is braking performance increased and chatter decreased, but the caliper is also safely protected within the apex of the rear triangle – instead of “hanging off the back” like other bikes on the market .

BREEZE-IN DROPOUTS

Joe Breeze’s iconic Breeze-In Dropout offers twice the rigidity and half the weight of standard dropouts . Breeze-Ins enable the stays to extend as close as possible to the rear axle, making tubing the rightful star of the show . Breeze-In Dropouts improve shifting, wheel changes, and of course, ride quality .

WHAT IS MLINK™?

MLink™ is a four-bar suspension system, with the chainstay pivot positioned in the middle of the chainstay . This balanced design provides a smooth and efficient system with less flex, less binding, and less bearing and pivot stress .

WHY IS MLINK™ BETTER?

Short link systems have very large bearing rotations and accelerations, maximizing the force the rear triangle ex-erts on them . Whereas the longer link of MLink™ means less bearing rotation for the same amount of travel and less stress for super-smooth suspension travel and low bearing wear .

MLink™ technology redefines how full-suspension bikes can climb . Lockouts or heavy pedaling platforms are a thing of the past . MLink™ is as stiff and efficient as possible, allowing you to hit climbs hard and fast – with the suspension working to move you forward, not bobbing from pedaling forces or bouncing around from a locked-out shock .
