DEAR CAMP JCC FAMILIES, Welcome to Camp JCC Summer 2016!
By choosing Camp JCC you are providing your camper with a fun and exciting summer and more importantly giving your camper opportunities to enhance self-esteem, learn new and enhance familiar skills, make friends, and grow in ever way.
From incredible elective classes to sports specialties, campers will be kept engaged and enriched all summer long, and create life-long memories. Campers will participate in themed programming and activities and learn about different cultures.
Our camp staff is trained to work with various age groups and meet the needs of all children. Each child is provided with individualized attention in a safe and caring environment. We pride ourselves on the delivery of the highest quality programs and fun all summer long!
Camp programming is designed so that families receive the high-quality care and value they deserve. Campers enjoy the use of the JCC’s well-equipped 80,000-square-foot facility, including indoor and outdoor pools, full-size gym, outdoor fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, art studio, and more! Children are provided with a camping experience that is rich in athletics, swimming, arts, and culture. Travel camps take teens to amazing places in New England.

GENERAL INFORMATIONALL ARE WELCOME AT CAMP JCCWe welcome children of diverse faiths and cultures. Non-members attend summer camp at non-member prices. If you enjoy your time at the JCC and decide to become a member prior to August 14, we will apply the difference in rates to your membership.
BUS TRANSPORTATION FROM WESTBORO AND SHREWSBURYRound-trip bus transportation is available at an additional fee. First come, first serve / limited space available. Campers will be met at the JCC upon arrival and escorted to their groups. At dismissal, campers will be escorted to buses for their return home. Bus counselors ride buses to help ensure the safety of all children. AVAILABLE JUNE 20 - AUGUST 26.
CAMP HOURSSee individual camp descriptions for hours. AM/PM Extended Day (additional fee) 7:30 - 9:00am & 4:00 - 5:30pm
CELL PHONES / ELECTRONIC DEVICESCampers are not allowed to have a mobile device at camp. If you need to reach your child you can contact the camp office and we will bring your child to the office.
DEPOSITS A non-refundable deposit of $75 per week/per child of camp is required and must accompany each camp application.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCEA limited number of need-based scholarships are available. Interviews are required for first time applicants. Early application for scholarship is strongly encouraged. Submit camp registration with a refundable deposit of $25 per week/per child along with the financial aid application. If the deposit is a hardship registration, the registration will be put on hold until the application can be reviewed. To be considered in the first round, all paperwork and required interviews must be completed by Monday, April 11, 2016.
First round applicants will be notified by Monday, May 2, 2016 and must respond by Monday, May 16, 2016 to indicate whether or not the child will be attending or the camp space may be forfeited. Requests, after the first round, will be considered if funds are still available. Additional financial assistance requests will be processed as received until scholarship funds are depleted.
JCC MEMBER RATESTo receive member rates, your account must be current (no past due amounts) and your annual or 6-month membership must be in effect through Friday, August 26, 2016. Additional non-member fees will be charged if your membership is not in effect during the camp dates your child attends. Three-month members pay non-member camp fees.
LICENSINGCamp JCC is licensed by the Massachusetts State Department of Health. JCC meets and exceeds all of the health and safety guidelines set forth by the state of Massachusetts.
VALUES AND CULTUREWe model and integrate into camp life the values that are common across many religions of being a good person, sportsmanship, “random acts of kindness,” social action and awareness. Children of diverse faiths and cultures participate in our camp programs and are exposed to Jewish and Israeli culture.
PAYMENTPayment for all camp fees are due in full by Friday, May 13, 2016. After May 13, payment in full is due at the time of registration. Children will not be permitted to attend camp if fees are not paid in full. No refunds of any fees after Friday, May 13, 2016.
PROGRAM CHANGE FEEAll changes, including changing weeks enrolled, after Friday, May 13, 2016, will incur a $25 change fee per child.
RED CROSS SWIMSwim lessons taught by American Red Cross certified instructors. If a child participates in 3 weeks of swim lessons, he/she will receive a certificate of achievement based on the appropriate level.
REFUND POLICYNo refunds, credits or pro-rated adjustments for missed days, including illness, family situations and vacations. Forfeited deposits/fees may not be applied to other weeks/programs/fees. No refunds of any fees after Friday, May 13, 2016.

SECURITY AND SAFETY Camper safety is of utmost importance at Camp JCC. Many of our staff have first aid certification and CPR training specifically for children. Camp staff augments the pool supervision provided by full-time American Red Cross certified lifeguards. Staff are criminal background checked through the state of Massachusetts.
Experienced professionals supervise and implement all Camp programs. Campers are under the direct supervision of a trained staff member at all times.
Each summer, we have two Israeli Emissaries on our staff. These carefully selected, highly trained young adults bring the feeling and spirit of Israel to life in our camp environment.
Campers enrolled in our day camps learn about and experience Israel with our Emissaries. Campers experience Israeli music, dancing, sports, food, language, trends and hear first hand about Israeli life!

SANDY SCOLA EARLY CHILDHOOD CAMP DIRECTOR Sandy began her 29 year career at the JCC as a classroom teacher. She worked her way through the ranks, teaching for 12 years, serving as Assistant Director and then as Director since 2007. Sandy has been Director of the Preschool Summer Camp for 18 years.
ROBIN BURWICK EARLY CHILDHOOD CAMP DIRECTORBeginning her 20 year career at the JCC when her daughter was in the preschool, Robin spent many years teaching four-year-olds, and seven years teaching in the Pre-K classroom. Robin is a former Director of the JCC’s School Age Camp.
Our “home base” is the JCC’s beautiful air–conditioned Early Childhood Center with fully equipped preschool classrooms. Our caring professional staff is dedicated to creating an environment where your child will explore and share many adventures including Red Cross swim, music, sports, arts, cookouts, Israeli culture and nature. The preschool camp staff is composed of licensed preschool teachers and experienced counselors who warmly welcome your child every day. All campers receive a camp T-shirt.

MUSIC AND MOVEMENTJoin in the fun with camp songs, creative movement, improvisation and rhythm games. With our music specialist: Angela Garvin.
KID FITA unique program designed specifically for young children. Kid Fit will offer the children a rotation of Happy Feet Soccer, Hooray For Hoops Basketball, Kool Kicks Kickball and more. Children practice gross motor skills while practicing balance, coordination and agility.

MACCABI GAMES 2016! DAY CAMP - WEEK 8 Aug. 8—12
Are you ready for the most extreme and thrilling camp week ever? It’s time for the Maccabi Games 2016! The Maccabi Games are a week long, camp wide competition. The day camp will be split into two teams and will compete against each other in a variety of fun and exciting activities. The activities will include sports, games, water, art, team building and most of all TEAM SPIRIT! In the beginning each team will create a team song and team banner representing their team name and spirit. Then let the games begin… It’s guaranteed to be the best week ever! At the end of the Maccabi Games 2016 we will celebrate the past weeks fun and games with pride and good sportsmanship during the closing ceremony.

MEGAN CATLIN, CAMP DIRECTORMegan has been at the JCC for 5 years as the After School Director and last year as Camp Director. Megan was the Director of a community summer
program for over 10 years. She brings her programming experience and love of working with children to the JCC’s camp program.
BEN MCCUE, ASSISTANT YOUTH/CAMP DIRECTORBen is in his second year here at the JCC. He comes to us with over 5 years of Residential, Day, and Summer Camp
experience. Ben has a passion for working with children as he was a Middle School teacher and Assistant Director of Aquatics/Camps before coming on board. He is very excited to dive right in!

ARTISTIC IMPRESSIONS Just Paint has designed a program just for us! Campers will let their creative imaginations soar as they discover their inner artist using a variety of mediums. Week 4, 7 Fee +$135
NEW BASKETBALLDribble the day away on our outdoor basketball courts. We will be working on passing, shooting, teamwork skills, and coordination. All while we will be playing some fun games such as “Around the world”, “knockout”, and “Horse”. Week 1, 5
BORN TO MOVE & REFUEL Les Mills BORN TO MOVE is a fun fitness program using music, movement and the power of group fitness to boost energy, increase skill level and generally make you feel awesome! The program is followed with a stop at the smoothie station to create your own healthy, smoothies! Week 1 Fee +$50
CAKE WARSCalling all decorators! 4 teams of decorators will show their stuff as they decorate cakes to go along with the theme of the week. At the end of the week teams will be judged and awards will be given to the best decorators at the JCC! Let the competition begin! Max 16 Week 2, 6

NEW EXTREME KIDS LEGOUsing the LEGO® brick systems it delivers hands-on, minds-on solutions that ignite children’s desire to learn – and keep learning – by stimulating curiosity, creativity and critical thinking. Campers will travel to Extreme Kids Lab and build up to 15 DIFFERENT robots! Week 7 Fee +$135
NEW EXTREME KIDS SCIENCEExtreme Science gives campers a chance to participate in awesome science experiments with an Extreme Lab Scientist! Campers will travel to Extreme Kids Lab and discover the fun side of science. They participate in “out of this world” science experiments such as elephant’s toothpaste, vampire veins, jelly-marbles, instant snow and much, much more! Week 4 Fee +$135

NEW GOLFMark Klotz - PGA Head Golf Professional at Kettle Brook Golf Club and Wachusett Country Club has put together a unique golf program just for our campers. Mark will cover full swing fundamentals, putting, chipping, pitching, and course etiquette. We’ll spend the first 3 days on the course at Kettle Brook and Thursday and Friday at Wachusett Country Clubs driving range. Bring your own clubs or use theirs, no experience needed, collared shirts required. Week 6, 8 Fee +$150
NEW HEBREW B’IVRITInterested in learning a new Language? Join our Israeli counselor to learn Hebrew words and simple phrases through fun games and hands on activities. Week 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7
HIKING AND NATURE5 days of discovering the great outdoors! Campers will hike some local trails, go geocaching, do some tracking, and learn survival skills. Friday will be spent exploring Mt. Wachusett! Appropriate clothes and shoes required. Rain or shine. (10am—2pm) Week 2, 5 Fee +$100
HORSEBACK RIDINGCampers travel to Cornerstone Ranch and learn the basics of how to catch, lead, tie up, brush, bridle, saddle, mount and care for a horse. Instruction and riding lessons are 9am—12pm every day with an authentic HORSE SHOW as the grand finale to demonstrate their skills! Suitable riding attire required (long pants and footwear with a heel). No experience needed. Bus leaves the JCC at 8:45am. Week 2, 5 Fee +$165

NEW JUST FASHIONJust Fashion is a creative learning space centered on all things fashion. We sketch, drape, create, design, hand-sew, machine sew and more in a creative learning space. Not only do we have a ton of fun – we teach your kids creating, designing and sewing skills, from inspiration to the final project. Our fashion studio is fully stocked with fabric, ribbons and anything you could need to complete your project. Week 8 Fee +$135

We have some really fun trips planned for this Teen Travel Week. There will be Mini-Golf and Bumper Boats, Waterslides and Wavepools, Roller Coasters and a Ropes Course, even a Wacky Wednesday Mystery Trip! Come join us for a week of fun in the sun!
Come soar with us as we zipline through the canopies, get the views as we climb to the top of the mountains, watch humungous whales breach the ocean, and feel the adrenaline run through your body at the adventure park. As you can see, we don’t have to explain that this will be the most exciting and exhilarating summer EVER!
In the event of inclement weather, alternate trips to indoor recreational destinations will be provided. Westboro/Shrewsbury bus transportation will NOT be available for this program due to early departure times and late return times.
*Wacky Wednesday Mystery Trip: Campers and parents will know where the campers are going on Wednesday morning. Hints will be given during the week…can you guess where we are going?

Our co-ed Sports Camps provide expert instruction in a supportive atmosphere of fun and camaraderie. Our emphasis is on skill and technique paired with an appreciation of teamwork and strategy. Campers make use of the JCC’s athletic facilities: newly renovated gymnasium, outdoor ball fields, basketball and tennis courts, 25 yard indoor and outdoor pools, gymnastics studio and new outdoor gaga pit.
Members of our camp staff are certified Youth Development Coaches having completed the USA Basketball Coach licensed program.

Director Adam Strogoff is the former head coach of the Worcester Academy Girls Varsity Soccer team and led the team to three N.E. Championships in his eight years with the program, compiling an overall record of 102-14-23 in the process. Under his guidance, the team won the NEPSAC Class A title in 2011, its first year of Class A play, and NEPSAC Class B championships in 2008 and 2009. The team was a New England finalist in 2010, semifinalist in 2005 and 2007, and quarterfinalist in 2006 and 2012. In 2008 Adam was named the NSCAA Massachusetts Private School Coach of the Year. He brings years of soccer camp experience having worked at numerous soccer camps throughout New England.
Special Guest....MASSOOD ABOLFAZLI ... 20-year coaching veteran who trained 20 All-American Players as head soccer coach at Clark University. As a player Massood was a 4-time All-New England Selection and All-American Selection and a Clark University Sports Hall of Fame member.

Expert staff composed of top high school and college coaches, help campers better understand the game of basketball, develop fundamentals and understand the concepts of teamwork and good sportsmanship in a fun and safe environment.
Grades 1 – 4 Players will participate in daily drill sessions helping them build fundamental skills that are the foundation of youth basketball development. Campers will also participate in fun skills competitions and games throughout the day.
Grades 5 – 9 Staff will help young players understand the game of basketball through fundamental skill work, advanced skill work, individualized instruction and coaching. Players will participate in a week long tournament leading to a championship game, helping them learn concepts of teamwork and team play.

NEW! DISC GOLF Tim Walsh, one of the professional disc golfers in New England will provide instruction during the week. Campers will have the opportunity to play this fun activity on the JCC field. Week 2
FITNESS! This one hour fitness elective will be offered each day for all sports campers grades 3 - 9. CIRCUS PERFORMING “GARY THE SILENT CLOWN” Campers will challenge their fine and gross motor coordination as they improve confidence and self-esteem while participating in fun activities, such as spinning plates, balancing, juggling, walking on stilts, unicycle, and more. Gary has performed extensively with Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus. He is well known throughout New England for his programs given each year at elementary schools, including Flagg Street School. Program Coordinator RICH GEDMAN: Hitting Coach of the Boston Red Sox Triple A Minor League affiliate Pawtucket Red Sox and former Can-Am Manager of the Year with the Worcester Tornadoes. Rich brings 12 years of Major League experience. He played with the Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros, and St. Louis Cardinals and participated in two American League Championship Series and the 1986 World Series. He was the 1981 Sporting News Rookie of the Year and a two-time American League All-Star Catcher.

The TAF Junior Triathlon Camp is designed to introduce kids from grades 3 - 10 to the exciting sport of triathlon. Focus is on skill development and fun. Instruction includes swim stroke improvement, bike handling and safety, run skills, warm up routines and nutrition. MATT VALYO Asst. Coach, Program Director - Matt is the Regional Athlete Development Coordinator for USA Triathlon Northeast and the Team Director of the TAF Racing Junior Elite Race Team. Matt is one of 5 coaches who run USA Triathlon’s Junior Skills and Elite Select Camps as well as the Northeast Collegiate High Performance Camp.

BIKE - Your child may use a bike that is in good working condition. Parents are required to have the bike checked out at a local bike shop which must provide a note indicating the bike is safe to ride. NO HELMET, NO BIKE RIDE, NO EXCEPTIONS. Please drop off campers and bikes at the JCC on Monday, July 11. Bikes will be stored for the week.

This full day, week long noncompetitive technique based program focuses on building strong components of skills in all four racing strokes through drills and activities. Increasing strength and performance in swimming, flip turns, starts and fundamentals. Each day will be a new stroke with instructions through a drill circuit at the outdoor pool in the morning, dryland strength development, video analysis and discussion session, finished off with a swim team style practice to tie in lessons of the day together. Wahoo Swim Club coach; Ben Tucker and Aquatics Director; Kelly Sampson will be directing all activities and instruction.
Swimmers must be evaluated by Ben Tucker in the 50yd Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and 25 Fly before registering.

PreSCHOOL INTRODUCTORY SWIM - An introductory class for preschoolers of all levels designed to learn to become more comfortable in the water. The focus is on water safety and initial stroke development.
LEVEL 1 - Introduction to Water Skills: This class is designed for children who have no swimming skills. Children must be able to follow directions and hold on to the wall by themselves.
LEVEL 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills: Swimmers must have passed Level 1. Students learn to float by themselves and recover in a vertical position. They begin to move in both alternating and simultaneous arm and leg motions on the front and back to lay the foundation for future strokes.
LEVEL 3 - Stroke Development: Swimmers must have passed Level 2. This level builds on coordination of the front crawl and backstroke and introduction to elements of the breaststroke and fundamentals of treading water. Basics of water entries will be introduced.
LEVEL 4 - Stroke Improvement: Swimmers must have passed Level 3. Increase the development of the front/back crawl with distance and coordination. Build on the butterfly stroke and refine backstroke and breaststroke. Learn the basics of turning on the wall.

Dear Camp Families,
Massachusetts State Law requires that medical forms are submitted for all campers prior to their participation in summer camp. It is IMPERATIVE that families adhere to this law for the health and safety of all campers.
If we do not have the forms prior to the first day of camp we CANNOT ALLOW the child to participate in activities until the form has been received. This policy will be strictly enforced.
