Community Strategic Plan Consultation
Coolamon Shire Council is undertaking a review and update of our Community Strategic Plan. The plan presents the community vision for the Shire and Identifies goals and strategies to achieve this long term vision. Complete an online survey or see a Council representative in your area.
A Council stand will set up in the main street from midday and Community meeting at 6pm at the local halls.

Garbage Collection and Landfill Opening times
Over Christmas/New Year
There will be no change to the collection schedule over this year’s Christmas and New Year period. Residents are however reminded that it is important that your bins are out the night prior to collection to ensure they are collected.

Australia Day Celebrations
Come help celebrate Australia Day on Thursday 26 January 2016 at the Rannock Community Centre. A free BBQ breakfast will start at 8.00am followed by the official Australia Day Ceremony at 10.00am, where local citizens will be recognised for their valued contributions at the annual Australia Day Awards. Council’s Australia Day Ambassador is Rick Timperi who represented Australia at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games for Boxing.

Council would like to advise motorists that heavy rehabilitation and road sealing works are to be carried out on the following Road: Canola Way (Junee Road) - multiple sections of reconstruction work. Portable traffic lights will be on site and motorists may experience delays up to 5 minutes. All major roadworks will be expected to be completed prior to Christmas Council would like to advise motorists that maintenance grading is in progress on the unsealed road network throughout the Shire. Please exercise caution, observe road signs, road conditions and drive accordingly.

Harvest traffic With increased heavy vehicle traffic, please ensure you give all trucks plenty of room, Don’t cut in front and don’t overtake unless you can see a long way in front. The library is taking names to join a book club. A book club is for anyone who loves to read a varied selection of books and meet with others to chat about them. Exhibition “Satire in the time of War 1914-1918: The Cartoons of Hal Eyre
The Library is hosting a panel display from the State Library of NSW called “Satire in the time of War 1914- 1918. It features reproductions of 20 of Hal Eyre’s most comical cartoons which illustrate the debates and controversies of the time. Tuesday 24th January – Friday 3rd February.
Coolamon Early Childhood Centre
The Coolamon Early Childhood centre
operates from 7am till 6pm Monday till
Friday. We are open for 50 weeks per year
and only close for public holidays and over
Christmas and New Year.
Enrolments open now for 2017
The Early Childhood Centre runs a
successful preschool program that operates
in accordance with the Education and Care
Services National Regulations, National
Quality Standards and The Early Years
Learning Framework all requirements of
early childhood education within Australia.
Families may be eligible for CCB and CCR
payments through Centrelink to reduce
their daily fees.
In 2017 the preschool program will be
implemented by Mrs Corie Flanigan and Ms
Katrina Smith who will be sharing the role
of Hoppers Room Leader. Corie holds a
Bachelor of Education (Birth to Five Years)
whilst Katrina holds a Diploma in
Community Services. Corie and Katrina are
passionate about running a successful
preschool program that supports children’s
development prior to school.
Corie and Katrina will be continuing to use
visuals as strategies to help engage children
and continue implementing our “be safe, be
friendly and be respectful” motto with the
preschool children. We hope to engage
more frequently with the community
including Allawah lodge, the hospital and
the shire library for story time. We
encourage family participation, comments
and feedback and will be holding an
information night in the New Year to
collaborate with families about 2017 and
what family expectations, ideas and
suggestions are.
The Store will be closed over the
Christmas and New Year period, the
store will be closed from 23rd December
and reopening 3rd January 2017

Christmas Party 2016
A combined Allawah Aged Care Services
afternoon tea Christmas party was enjoyed by residents of the Village and Lodge, their friends,
family staff of Allawah Lodge, Community care and volunteers. A full spread of delicious treats
and home baked goodies were shared with some catering by Coolamon Central Hospitality
students. It was a great opportunity to thank our valuable volunteers and give out some
presents for their community service.
Coolamon Cheese factory generously donated
some of the gifts for the volunteers. We would
like to wish all our residents and their families a
wonderful Christmas & New Year.
