2016 EDITION - VOLUME 10 HARRISON BURTON KHI Management recently welcomed second-generation NASCAR driver Harrison Burton to the family. Burton is the son of former NASCAR driver, current NASCAR on NBC analyst and fellow KHI Management client Jeff Burton. Burton, 16, made his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut for Kyle Busch Motorsports at Martinsville Speedway on Oct. 29. He ran a solid, smart race, starting from the 16th position and keeping his nose clean throughout the event. With the patience of a driver much more experienced, Burton worked his No. 18 DEX Imaging Toyota into the top 10 by lap 158 of 200. While running there, he was spun from behind with 38 laps remaining, leaving him one lap down to the leaders. Despite a valiant effort, Burton was unable to regain his lap and crossed the finish line in the 22nd position. Next season will see him run a partial Truck Series schedule. He recently completed his rookie season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, finishing seventh in the point standings on the strength of one pole position, one top-five and five top-10 finishes in 14 starts. Additionally, he is a member of the prestigious NASCAR Next class of 2016-‘17, an elite group of 11 drivers designated as part of an industry-wide initiative designed to spotlight the best and brightest rising young stars in racing. Up next for the young wheelman is the Florida Governor’s Cup Super Late Model 200 race at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., on Nov. 13. He also is in the running for Most Popular Driver in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. To cast a vote for Burton, click here. Voting ends at midnight on Nov. 20. straight outta khi

DONALD “COWBOY” CERRONEDonald “Cowboy” Cerrone is in the final days of his training and preparation for an historic UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. This marks the first fight in New York since a ban on professional MMA, dating back to 1997, was lifted earlier this year. During the Nov. 12 bout, he will face fifth ranked Kelvin Gastelum in the welterweight class. Cerrone is 3-0 since moving to welterweight and has earned “Performance of the Night” honors in all three fights and is currently ranked sixth in the division.

MIESHA TATEFormer UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Miesha Tate is only days away from fighting on the UFC 205 card Nov. 12 at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Tate faces off against eighth ranked Raquel Pennington in her first fight since July, when she lost the bantamweight title to Amanda Nunes. Tate coached Pennington on “The Ultimate Fighter” which makes for an interesting storyline for this match up. Tate has made headlines again for her “random acts of kindness” and how her compassion outside the Octagon has made her a fan favorite.

KEVIN HARVICKKevin Harvick displayed the heart and determination of a champion once again on Oct. 16 at Kansas Speedway. With the No. 4 teams backs against the wall from a blown engine the week before at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Harvick and company took the checkered flag to automatically advance to Round 3 of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Harvick was the last of 12 drivers in the Chase standings headed into Kansas, the second of three races in Round 2, making it likely he would need a win either at Kansas or Talladega to continue his championship hunt.

After leading twice earlier in the event, Harvick charged to the point on lap 237 and never relinquished the position, taking his 35th career win and his second at Kansas, alleviating the pressure of needing a strong finish the next weekend in the Talladega “crapshoot.” Once in Victory Lane, Harvick climbed from the No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet to his crew members’ chants of “I believe that we will win” to begin the celebration.

The win at Kansas was a tremendous relief after an unlucky circumstance the previous week at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Harvick started the Oct. 9 race, postponed a day due to heavy rain from Hurricane Matthew, from the pole position and led the first 12 laps, remaining in the top five until a green-flag pit stop on lap 113. Shortly thereafter, though, Harvick was forced to the garage with irreparable mechanical issues that relegated him to a 38th-place finish, leaving him last in the Chase standings headed into Kansas.

After taking the finish of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Charlotte, Harvick competed in the NASCAR XFINITY Series race after Hurricane Matthew forced a Sunday doubleheader. Harvick and the No. 88 Hunt Brothers Pizza Chevrolet started from the 19th position after qualifying was cancelled and the lineup set by final practice speeds. Despite fighting an ill-handling race car, Harvick brought it home in the seventh position, earning his fourth series top-10 finish of the season.

Already locked into Round 3 of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup a week earlier via their Kansas victory, Harvick started the Oct. 23 race at Talladega Superspeedway from the 22nd position. Harvick ran as high as second and was third at the onset of a green-white-checkered finish before being shuffled back to seventh place by the time the checkered flag waved.

The Oct. 30 race at Martinsville Speedway was a bit of a struggle for the No. 4 Busch Light Chevrolet team, which started and finished in the 20th position. Harvick worked his way into third by lap 103. However, a penalty for speeding on pit road on lap 134 relegated the team to the 26th position for the restart. Harvick methodically picked off positions to take 13th on lap 215 before the car began displaying an ill-handling condition. He battled the car the remainder of the race, contested under long green-flag conditions, and took the checkered flag in the 20th position.

JAKE OWENJake Owen put his musical talents to use for a good cause in October at the Imperial Theatre in Augusta, Ga., helping to raise money for Laurie’s Fund, which was established by Laurie Parkhurst to raise funds for cancer research. Earlier in October, Owen’s scheduled performance at the inaugural Beach Town Musical Festival in Vero Beach, Fla., was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew. This marks the second time this year that weather has interrupted Owen’s schedule, as the Gulf Coast Jam in Panama City Beach, Fla. was canceled due to Tropical Storm Hermine on Labor Day weekend. Owen appeared on the ABC special, All Access Nashville: Celebrating the CMA Awards With Robin Roberts, on Oct. 31.

Up next for Jake is a performance Nov. 5 at Country at the Ballpark in Sugarland, Texas. Owen also will play the Nov. 6 pre-race concert at Texas Motor Speedway just prior to the start of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the Fort Worth track.

SHANNON SPAKEShannon Spake spent most of October in Texas and on the West Coast covering college football games as the lead sideline reporter for FOX Sports. On Oct. 8, she covered the historic Red River Showdown at the Cotton Bowl, pitting Oklahoma vs. Texas. One week later, Spake was back

in the Lone Star State for West Virginia at Texas Tech. Then she headed to Pasadena, Calif., on Oct. 22 for Utah at UCLA, wrapping the month Oct. 29 with Washington at Utah in Salt Lake City.

Although the Web.com Championship in Atlantic Beach, Fla., was cancelled due to Hurricane Matthew, Jason Gore still has a memento, of sorts, from the weekend. While he and his family were evacuating due to the approaching hurricane, they got a flat tire on the way to the airport. So, Gore traded his golf skills for a little mechanical prowess and took care of the problem.

Up next for Gore is the Nov. 17-20 RSM Classic at Sea Island Golf Club on St. Simons Island, Ga.

MATT STILLWELLMatt Stillwell spent most of October performing around the East and Southeast. For the second consecutive year, he headlined the Catamount Concert Series for his alma mater, Western Carolina University, on Oct. 29, in Cullowhee, N.C. His Catamounts took on the nationally ranked Chattanooga. Stillwell also performed at the Bud Light Down South Tailgate at the big Alabama/Texas A&M game on Oct. 22, as well as the New Era Collegiate Licensing Summit on Oct. 4 in Buffalo, N.Y.

Coming up, Stillwell will host key industry members at the 4G Ranch in Land O’ Lakes, Fla., for two days of hunting, fishing and off road riding, capping the fun with a performance. Stillwell hopes to use the opportunity to give everyone a peek into what is going on with his music. He will close out November with a date at Coyote Joe’s in Detroit on the 23rd.
