Context
6
Effect of the crisis: in 2008, stagnation of new car registrations (growth rate limited to +1.4%) followed by a decline in 2009 (- 7.8%).
The volumes recovered to their pre-crisis level in 2010 for passenger cars segment and in 2011 for the LCV market.
In 2012, moderate increase of +2.9% for passenger cars and +0.8% for the LCV segments - that year, GDP growth only came in at 1.1% versus 1.8% and 3% during the previous years – part of the PCs sales at the end of the year were certainly led by client anticipations that the new taxes penalizing vehicles that emit a lot of CO2 would be put into place.
2013-2014: In 2 years, the passenger car segment market nosedived by 8%. This decrease in new registration is likely to be related to the sanction payments introduce for CO2-intentsive cars. To be noticed that despite two years of decline in a row, the sales volumes remain above those of the 2002 to 2010 period.
2015: Despite a low GDP growth rate registered (+0.7% in 2015 versus +1.9% in 2014 and +1.8% in 2013), the passenger cars sales volume increased by 7.2% and the LCV by 7.6%.
2016-2017: For the two coming years, OECD expects an increase of the GPD of 1.1% in 2016 and 1.6% in 2017 (but still below 2013 and 2014 level).
