2016 frankenmuth football game summaries Frankenmuth 36 – Hemlock 0: The Eagles open the 2016 season with a 36 – 0 non-conference win over the Hemlock Huskies. Frankenmuth would score twice in

the opening quarter on a Kris Roche 14-yard run and a 89 TD pass play with Jared Davis connecting with Daniel Mills. Roche would add a 2nd quarter score on a 2-

yard run and the 2 pt conversion as the Eagles took a 22 – 0 lead into halftime. Roche would add two more 2nd rushing TD’s in the 2nd half on runs of 3 & 9 yards.

Roche would end the game with 103 yards rushing and Davis was 9 of 12 passing for 180 yards. The Eagles defense limited the Huskies to 83 total yards of offense.

Frankenmuth 35 – Birch Run 14: Frankenmuth opened Tri-Valley East action with a 35 – 14 victory over the Birch Run Panthers. The Eagles scored first in the

opening quarter with Jared Woods scoring on a 3-yard run to end a 12-play drive taking 6:31 of possession. On the ensuing kickoff, Birch Run would score on a 84-yard kickoff return but the PAT was missed. The Eagles would answer back with Kris Roche scoring from 1-yard and Jack Lee added the PAT for the second of his

five PAT’s for the game. The 2nd quarter was scoreless as Frankenmuth clung to a 14 – 6 lead at the half. Davis would rush in from 15-yards mid way through the 3rd

quarter and would add a 4th quarter score on a 1-yard plunge. Hunter Schluckebier would add a score from 4-yards and Birch Run would add a late score. The Eagles would rush for 300 yards with Roche leading the way with 96 yards and Davis would add 85 yards rushing and 126 yards passing. Ethan Yatsevich would lead the

defense with 9 tackles and a fumble recovery, as the defense limited the Panthers to 50 yards of offense.

Frankenmuth 36 – Lakeville 0: The Eagles traveled to Lakeville and shutout the Falcons 36 – 0. Frankenmuth scored on the first drive of the game with Kris

Roche scoring from 2-yards and also added the 2-pt conversion for a 8 – 0 lead. Three 2nd quarter scores by the Eagles, led by two Jared Davis TD runs and a Davis 20 yard TD pass to Roche, giving the Eagles a 29 – 0 halftime lead. The lone score of the half was a Davis 29-yard run. Frankenmuth outgained Lakeville 363

to 70 in total yards and Davis totaled 116 yards rushing. Garrett Rezmer was the leading tackler with 11 and Aaron Haubenstricker added two QB sacks.

Frankenmuth 43 – Bridgeport 6: The Eagles hosted the Bridgeport Bearcats and were victories 43 – 6. A scoreless 1st quarter was dominated by the defenses with

Jared Davis and Grant Bronner each intercepting Bearcat passes. Davis would add two more interceptions in the 2nd quarter and also threw TD passes to Kris Roche

for 26-yards and Bronner for 3 yaards, as Zach Jacobs would add a 7-yard rushing TD and the Eagles led 22 – o at the half. Frankenmuth would add three 3rd quarter scores with Davis connecting with Daniel Mills for 17 yards and Roche and Jacobs would add scores of 1 & 8 yards. Bridgeport would score it’s only TD of the

game in the 4th quarter on a 75-yard pass play. Jacobs was the leading rusher with 87 yards and Davis was 9 of 17 passing for 120 yards.

Frankenmuth 24 – Millington 7: In a key Tri-Valley East contest at Frankenmuth against rival Millington Cardinals, the Eagles prevailed by a 24 – 7 score. The

defenses for both squads dominated 1st half play as the lone score was a Jared Davis 43-yard run mid-way through the 1st quarter. Frankenmuth received the opening

kickoff of the 2nd half and made quick work, scoring after only three plays on a Davis 14-yard run and jack Lee’s PAT gave the Eagles a 14 – 0 lead. At the 1:45 mark of the 3rd quarter, Lee would add a 18-yard field goal to up the Eagle lead to 17 – 0. In the 4th quarter, Millington got on the scoreboard after an Eagle turnover

on a 28-yard TD pass and narrowed the lead to 17 – 7. Frankenmuth would put the game away with 59 seconds remaining when Davis scampered in from 23-yards

and the 24 – 7 final score. Davis led the rushing attack with 76 yards and was 4 of 11 passing for 91 yards. The Eagle defense was stellar throughout the game sacking the Millington QB six times. Dan Stone led the defense with 8 tackles and two sacks.

Frankenmuth 34 – Essexville-Garber 8: On a rainy night in Essexville, the Eagles used a strong 2nd half to beat the Dukes 34 – 8. On the opening drive of the game, Ryan Khan intercepted a Dukes pass and returned it 44-yards for a Eagle TD. Later in the opening quarter, Jared Davis connected with Grant Bronner on a 43-

yard TD pass and Jack Lee’s PAT gave the Eagles a 14 – 0 lead. Garber controlled the 2nd quarter and scored with 1:01 remaining on a 8-yard run and the successful

2-pt conversion narrowed the Frankenmuth lead to 14 – 8 at the half. On the opening drive of the 2nd half, the Eagles went 65 yards in 6 plays with Zach Jacobs scampering in from 37-yards for the TD. Frankenmuth’s defense would shutdown the Dukes offense in the 2nd half. The Eagles added two 4th quarter scores with

Davis scoring on TD runs of 10 & 2 yards. Nataniel Lambeth and Davis led the Eagles tacklers with seven each, limiting the Dukes to 120 total yards.

Frankenmuth 50 – North Branch 0: On a homecoming night, Frankenmuth shutout the Broncos from North Branch 50 – 0. The Eagle defense ruled the game

limiting North Branch to 8 total yards of offense and a minus 50 yards rushing. Ryan Khan, Grant Bronner, and Hunter Schluckebier each had an interception. Luje

Scharrer and Josh Moore were leading tacklers with six apiece. The Eagles would open up a 41 – 0 halftime lead with Jared Davis tossing TD passes to Schluckebier for 32-yards and Bronner for 19-yards. Davis, Zach Jacobs, Khan, and Kris Roche would each add TD runs in the 1st half. The Eagles would add a 3rd quarter safety

and concluded the scoring on a Karrington Riggins 1-yard run. Jack Lee would add six PAT’s and break the school record of 28 consecutive PAT’s .

Frankenmuth 43 – Caro 8: The Frankenmuth Eagles traveled to Caro and in defeating the Tigers 43 – 8, they captured their fifth straight Tri-Valley East

Champions with a perfect 7 – 0 league record. On the third play from scrimmage to start the game for the Tigers, they fumbled the ball away with Nate Lambeth

recovering and the very next play, Jared Davis connected with Grant Bronner for 13-yard TD pass and the Jack Lee PAT gave the Eagles a 7 – 0 lead. At the 3:00 mark of the opening quarter, Michael Graves of the Tigers returned a punt 73 yards for a TD and the successful 2-pt. conversion gave Caro a 8 – 7 lead. In the 2nd

quarter, Kris Roche scored TD runs of 8 & 71 yards with the latter score, Davis ran in the 2-pt. conversion and the Eagles led 22 – 8 at the half. Frankenmuth tacked

on two 3rd quarter scores on a Davis 1-yard run and Zach Jacobs from 3-yards. The 4th quarter was scoreless. The Eagles totaled 382 yards of offense and limited the Tigers to 51 total yards. Roche led the rushing department with 152 yards on 14 carries and Davis added 107 yards, Hunter Schluckebier was the leading tackler

with 7.

Freeland 7 – Frankenmuth 3: Ina non-conference game between two 8 – 0 teams, The Freeland Falcons sneaked past the Eagles 7 – 3. The defenses of both teams

controlled play throughout the game. The lone TD of the game came at the 1:47 mark of the opening quarter when Falcons QB scampered in from 18-yards. Jared

Davis stopped a Freeland drive late in the 2nd quarter with an interception. The score remained 7 – 0 at the half. The defenses continued to rule in the 3rs quarter with no scoring. In the 4th quarter, Frankenmuth drove deep into Falcon territory but settled for a 32-yard field goal by Jack Lee to narrow the Freeland lead to 7 – 3. The

Eagles stopped the Falcons inside the Eagle 10-yard line on downs, but only 39 seconds remained. On the first play, Davis connected with Grant Bronner on a 54-

yard pass play to get the Eagles in Falcon territory. On the final play of the game, Frankenmuth attempted a number laterals but were stopped at the Freeland 18 yard line to end the game. Frankenmuth outgained Freeland 213 to 175 yards. Davis gained 65 yard rushing and 78 yards passing. Davis was also the leading tackler

with 11.

“THE MHSAA PLAYOFF RUN”

Frankenmuth 38 – Essexville-Garber 6: The Eagles opened Pre-District action by hosting the Garber Dukes and won by a 38 – 6 score. Frankenmuth opened the

scoring at the 4:14 mark of the 1st quarter on a Jared Davis 5-yard run, The Dukes answered back later in the opening quarter scoring on a 14-yard pass play, but the

failed PAT keep the Eagles in the lead 7 – 6. On the 1st play of the 2nd quarter, Davis connected with Ryan Khan on a 5-yard TD pass and the Jack Lee PAT upped the Eagle lead to 14 – 6. Garber drove inside the Eagle twenty-yard line, but a Dominik Landin sack of Duke QB Logan Sella to end the drive. On the ensuing

possession, Frankenmuth went 78-yards on 7-plays capped by a Kris Roche 9-yard TD run and the Eagles took a 21 – 6 lead into halftime. On the opening

possession of the 2nd half by Frankenmuth, Jack Lee kicked a 35-yard field goal to up the lead to 24 – 6. On the ensuing kickoff, Aaron Haubenstricker recovered a Duke fumble and two plays later, Roche score from 9-yards. The score was setup with a 33 yard pass play from Davis to Grant Bronner. On the ensuing kickoff,

Garber again fumbled the ball away with a Coreyon Chandler recovery and 4 plays later, Zach Jacobs score from 1-yard and a 38 – 6 Eagle lead. Khan intercepted a

Dukes pass late in the 3rd quarter to stop a Duke’s drive. The 4th quarter was scoreless and with the win, the Eagles move on in playoff action. The Eagles netted 350yard of rushing with a balanced attack led by Jacobs with 10 yards, followed by Davis with 90 yards and Roche with 86 yards. The Eagle defense held the Garber

passing offense to 233 yards with a negative 10-yards rushing. Frankenmuth sacked the Dukes 5 times during the game. Chandler was the leading tackler with

seven.

Frankenmuth 49 – Freeland 14: In a rematch of last year’s District Championship, the Frankenmuth Eagles squad traveled to Freeland and soundly defeated the

Falcons 49 – 14 to claim the District crown. The Eagles completely controlled the 1st half in scoring five of the six times they had possession while the defense held Freeland to 50 yards of offense in the 1st half. Zach Jacobs started the scoring in the 1st quarter on a 19-yard TD run and at the 1:37 mark of the 1st quarter, Jared

Davis scored from 1-yard. After a Ryan Khan interception early in the 2nd quarter, Davis again scored with a 2-yard run. Kris Roche would get in on the scoring

parade, scoring from 8-yards with 2:05 remaining in the quarter. On the ensuing Falcon possession, Ethan Yatsevich recovered a Freeland fumble and two plays later, Davis connected with Khan of a 43-yard pass play and the Eagles took a commanding 35 – 0 lead into halftime. The Eagles took the opening drive of the

second half and scored on a 8-play, 55 yard drive, possessing nearly half of the quarter, with a Roche 6-yard run. Freeland would get on the scoreboard on the first

play of the 4th quarter on a Garhet Metiva 26-yard run. The Eagles recovered the ensuing on-side kick attempt by the Falcons and made quick work, scoring on 4-plays with Roche adding third TD of the game and Jack Lee would add his seventh PAT of the game and a 49 – 7 Eagle lead. Freeland add a final score on a 38-yard

TD pass for the 49 – 14 final. The Frankenmuth offense would roll up 412 yards of offense with Roche leading the rushing attack with 90 yards and Davis followed

with 84 yards. Davis was 4 of 5 passing for 149 yards with Grant Bronner receiving to passes for 75 yards. The Eagle defense was led by Coreyon Chandler with 8 tackles followed by Khan with 7 tackles and Dan Stone with six tackles.

Frankenmuth 28 – Ithaca 20: In a Regional Championship game against perennial state power Ithaca Yellowjackets, the Frankenmuth Eagles traveled to Ithaca and claimed the Regional Championship in a 28 – 20 victory. Things did not start out good for the Eagles as three 1st quarter turnovers doomed the Eagles and the

Yellowjackets took a 14 – 0 lead with Ithaca QB Joey Bently scoring on runs of 74 and 15 yards and led the Eagles 14 – 0 after the opening quarter. At the 9:49 mark

of the 2nd quarter, Kris Roche rambled in from 26-yards and Jack Lee added the PAT culminating a 80-yard drive to narrow the Ithaca lead to 14 – 7. After Roche and Dan Stone had back to back sacks against Bently, the Eagles gained possession and 4 plays later, Ryan Khan scored from 7-yards and the Lee PAT evened the

score 14 – 14. The Eagles drove inside the Ithaca 10-yard line late in the 2nd quarter but failed to convert on a 4th down pass play and the two teams went into the

locker room all even at 14 – 14. The Eagles kicked off to Ithaca to open the 2nd half and the defense again stymied the Yellowjacket offense forcing a punt pinning the Eagles deep into their own territory. On a 3rd down and six from their own 8-yard line, Zach Jacobs went 92-yards to paydirt and the Eagles took their first lead

by a 21 – 14 score. Ithaca took the ensuing possession 52 yards in 12 plays but settled for a Adam Culp 30-yard field goal, narrowing the Eagle lead to 21 – 17. At

the 10:53 mark of the 4th quarter, Frankenmuth again scored on a time consuming drove of 12-plays-62 yards and 6:09 off the clock with Khan scored his 2nd TD of the game on a 5-yard run and a Frankenmuth 28 – 17 lead. Again the Yellowjackets drove deep into Frankenmuth territory but settled for a 32-yard field goal and

with 7:54 remaining, Frankenmuth clung to a 28 – 20 lead. The Eagles would put a time consuming drive together down to the Ithaca 16-yard line were the Eagles

turned the ball over on downs with 1:28 remaining. Ithaca drove into Frankenmuth territory but Dominik Landin sacked Bently and on 4th down, Grant Bronner intercepted Bently’ pass with six seconds remaining and the Eagles offense set up into the “VICTORY” formation and a 28 – 20 Regional Championship Victory.

Frankenmuth dominated the stats with 509 yards of offense with 417 yards rushing, 23 first downs and a 31:34 to 16:26 time of possession advantage. Ithaca had 214

yards of offense and nine first downs. Roche was a workhorse in the rushing department with 161 yards rushing on 28 attempts, followed with Jacobs gaining 114 yards and Jared Davis with 99 yards. Davis was 5 of 8 passing for 92 yards. The Eagle defense sacked Bently eight times with Roche, Dan Stone and Nataniel

Lambeth leading the way. Roche and Stone led the defense with 5 tackles each.

Menominee 23 – Frankenmuth 20: In a semi-final contest, the Frankenmuth Eagles made the long journey to the Superior Dome on the Northern Michigan campus

in Marquette and lost to the Menominee Maroons by a 23 – 20 score in a hard fought battle. The Maroons took the opening kickoff and drove into Eagles territory

but Grant Bronner came up with a defensive play intercepting Menominee quarterback Ethan Mileski inside the Eagle 10-yard line. Late in the 1st quarter, the Eagles turned the ball over on a punt return and it only took the Maroons two plays to score on a Sam Larson 10-yard run and a 7 – 0 lead. On the ensuing possession, the

Eagles were forced to punt and the Maroons fumbled the punt away when Coreyon Chandler forced the fumble and Luke Scharrer recovered. On the first play of the 2nd quarter, Jared Davis connected with Bronner on a 22-yard TD pass and Jack Lee added the PAT, knotting the score at 7 – 7. At the 6:17 mark of the 2nd

quarter, Menominee added a 37-yard field goal and a 10 – 7 lead. With 2:15 remaining in the quarter, Mileski’s 66-yard pass to Marcus McKenney upped the

Maroons lead to 16 – 7 after the failed PAT. Frankenmuth answered back with an 8-play, 77-yard drive culminated with a Davis to Scharrer 12-yard pass and the teams went into halftime with a Menominee 16 – 14 lead. After the Eagles were forced to punt on their opening drive of the 2nd half, the Maroons drove down to the

Eagle 2-yard line, but Davis recovered a Menominee fumble on the 5-yard line and the Eagles went on a 9-play, 95 yard drive and at the 1:43 mark of the 3rd quarter,

Kris Roche rambled in from 11-yards and the Eagles took a 20 – 16 lead. The 2-point attempt failed, but the Eagles took the slim lead into the 4th quarter. Menominee recaptured the lead at the 9:28 mark with Larson scoring on a 1-yard run and the PAT gave the Maroons a 23 – 20 lead. On the ensuing drive, the

Eagles were in Maroons territory, but with 4:23 remaining the Eagles lost a fumble and Menominee ran out the clock to preserve the win. Menominee outgained the

Eagles 422 to 267 yards. Roche was the leading rusher for Frankenmuth with 126 yards on 16 attempts. Davis was 4 of 7 passing with Bronner catching two passes for 44 yards. Davis was the leading tackler with 12, followed by Nataniel Lambeth and Kris Roche with 11 tackles each.
