FC DALLAS vs SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC TOYOTA STADIUM, Frisco, Texas

May 14, 2016 (WEEK 11, MLS Game #108) 8 p.m. CT (KTXA-21; Q13 FOX)

Foes in the Western Conference Semifinals each of the last two seasons, FC Dallas and Seattle Sounders FC renew acquaintances for a first time this season when the clubs clash at Toyota Stadium on Saturday evening. FC Dallas put an end to a three-game losing run in their return home at midweek, keeping pace at the top of the West with a come-from-behind 2-1 win against the Portland Timbers. Sounders FC hit the road after winning back-to-back wins for the first time this season, making a steady rise up the conference table following their 2-0 win against San Jose last weekend. The teams met in the Western Conference Semifinals for a second consecutive season last year, FC Dallas winning the series on penalty kicks after the two legs finished 3-3 on aggregate, each team winning 2-1 on its home ground. The season prior, Sounders FC advanced on away goals, after the series ended 1-1 on aggregate.

Sounders FC have won the last five league meetings between the teams in Seattle, and six of the eight meetings there all-time, including a 3-0 win last June 13. The only FCD win at CenturyLink Field came in 2011, a 1-0 victory on May 25.

Coaches record: Sigi Schmid vs. DAL: P42 W20 L10 D12 … Oscar Pareja vs. SEA: P11 W2 L7 D2 FC DALLAS FC Dallas returned home and put an end to their three-game losing slide, coming back for a 2-1 win against the Portland Timbers on Wednesday evening at Toyota Stadium. FCD are in second place in the Western Conference with 20 points from 12 games. LAST MATCH

The Timbers opened the scoring in the third minute. A cross from Darren Mattocks wasn't cleared, and Timbers striker Lucas Melano pounced, collecting the ball and sending it in front of goal for an easy tap-in for Diego Valeri.

But FC Dallas found the leveler in the 55th minute. Defender Ryan Hollingshead tried to slip a pass in the box that was blocked back to his feet, and he broke through a pair of Timbers defenders before striking a shot goalkeeper Jake Gleeson.

Then just two minutes later, center back Walker Zimmerman sprinted into the box unmarked knocked in a towering header from a Mauro Diaz corner kick.

FCD head coach Oscar Pareja made three changes to the team that suffered a 1-0 loss to Toronto FC at BMO Field. Chris Seitz came back in between the posts for Jesse Gonzalez, Carlos Gruezo started in the midfield in place of Victor Ulloa, and Fabian Castillo came into an attacking role, replacing Tesho Akindele.

FC DALLAS (4-2-3-1): Chris Seitz - Ryan Hollingshead, Walker Zimmerman, Zach Loyd, Maynor Figueroa - Kellyn Acosta, Carlos Gruezo - Michael Barrios (Mauro Rosales 63), Mauro Diaz, Fabian Castillo (Atiba Harris 83) - Maximiliano Urruti (Tesho Akindele 46).

TEAM NEWS FC Dallas put an end to a three-game winless and goalless streak with the victory against Portland, also their

first home game since April 17, after the three-game road swing. FCD remain undefeated at Toyota Stadium for the season, now with back-to-back wins on their home ground

and a 4-0-2 record in six starts in Frisco. “That was a big statement win for us,” defender Walker Zimmerman said. “Not only because we dropped the

past three games, but to come from behind like we did, it shows the resiliency of this team and the character of this team to keep fighting and battling – especially after giving up such an early goal.”

The Ryan Hollingshead goal snapped a 347-minute goalless drought, the second-longest in MLS this season, and the fifth-longest in FC Dallas club history.

“(Tonight’s match) showed the character of the team, and Ryan is a good representation of that. It was not easy for him to take the (goalkeeper) gloves and change the gear in Toronto. In front of 30,000 people, he had the courage to do it, and he did it well,” said FCD head coach Oscar Pareja. “That energy transmitted to his teammates, and tonight he stepped up in a moment that was critical for us and he scored to equalize the game. I give credit to Ryan’s performance tonight. It was great to see him taking the game on his shoulders, taking the team on his shoulders.”

Hollingshead scored his first goal in more than a year, since last May 1 vs. Houston, the third goal of his MLS career in three seasons (54 appearances).

“Our offense has been getting great chances and getting in the box and having chances to score – we just couldn’t find the net,” Hollingshead said. “Things bounced a little bit on our side on those goals, on my goal at least. ... Sometimes you just need that to relax and get the monkey off the back so you can start playing.”

Walker Zimmerman scored his first goal in a regular season match since June 29, 2013 – when he scored the second of his two league goals in back-to-back matches (40 matches in between). Zimmerman did score it the second leg of last year’s Western Conference Semifinal Series vs. Seattle.

Chris Seitz returned between the posts to backstop the victory, his first match since the 3-0 loss at Vancouver on April 23. Jesse Gonzalez had played the previous two matches in goal (0-4 at New York Red Bulls; 0-1 at Toronto FC).

Mauro Diaz collected his fifth assist of the season, his first since March 26, when he had two assists vs. D.C. United. Diaz is tied for second in assists in MLS with five for the season.

“It’s one of those dry moments for forwards that happen. We need to carry on and sort it out. I have confidence in the players. I thought the number of options we had tonight just gives us hope because they are putting themselves in good spots. We’re not finding the last third, but we’re creating options and they will bounce back into it,” said Pareja.

SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC Seattle Sounders FC won their second game on the trot, defeating the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at CenturyLink Field. Sounders FC are in eighth place in the Western Conference with 13 points from 9 games. LAST MATCH

Sounders FC took the in the 26th minute. Jordan Morris sent in a pass from the right flank which was turned along by Erik Friberg for Clint Dempsey, and he turned home a powerful shot from the heart of the area.

The Earthquakes had a glorious chance to tie the score when Victor Bernardez went down in Seattle's penalty area after Tyrone Mears took him down with a sliding tackle. Chris Wondolowski stepped up to take the penalty in the 84th minute, but it clanked off the post after goalkeeper Stefan Frei guessed in the wrong direction.

The match was sealed just before the end of regulation time when Morris hit for a goal in a fourth consecutive game, allowed to step forward before ripping a low shot that sailed inside San Jose goalkeeper David Bingham's left post from well outside the penalty area.

Sounders FC head coach Sigi Schmid made two changes to the team that hit for the game’s lone goal in a victory against Columbus Crew SC at CenturyLink Field. Brad Evans returned from suspension to replace Zach Scott at center back, and Erik Friberg came into the midfield in place of Cristian Roldan.

SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC (4-2-1-3): Stefan Frei - Tyrone Mears, Brad Evans, Chad Marshall, Joevin Jones - Osvaldo Alonso, Erik Friberg (Cristian Roldan 72) - Clint Dempsey - Aaron Kovar (Nelson Haedo Valdez 64), Jordan Morris, Herculez Gomez (Andreas Ivanschitz 85).

TEAM NEWS Sounders FC have won back-to-back games in league play for the first time this season after the victory

against the Earthquakes. They have four wins in their last six starts overall. Sounders FC have won their last four home matches at CenturyLink Field, after opening a season with back-to-

back home losses for the first time in the club’s MLS history.

MLS GAME INFORMATION

“Over 34 games, you hope all those things even out,” said Sounders FC head coach Sigi Schmid. “When you’re going through a phase where it seems to always be going against you, you get a little bit worried that it’s not going to even out. But over 34 games, it usually does.”

Jordan Morris scored in a fourth consecutive game, matching the all-time rookie record for consecutive games with a goal, also set by Damani Ralph (CHI 2003) and Patrick Mullins (NE 2014). All four of Morris’s goals have come in the final half-hour of games. Morris was starting his eighth match of his rookie season, in nine Sounders FC league games.

“It feels good,” Morris said. “It’s always nice to get a goal, but it’s all about the three points. We’re on a good streak right now – we’ve just got to keep it going.”

Clint Dempsey scored his second goal of the season, his first since April 2. He was making a second consecutive start in an underneath forward role, after missing the April 23 match through injury.

“If we can keep creating more quality chances in the attacking third, I think you’ll see us scoring more goals like we did,” Dempsey said. “We probably could have scored a few more than we did, but we’re moving in the direction. Hopefully we can keep building.”

Erik Friberg made his first start since March 12, when he was forced off the field after just 18 minutes with an injury, playing 72 minutes in a central midfield role. Friberg collected an assist, his first of the season; he had come off the substitutes’ bench each of the previous two matches.

“When somebody sees Erik on the field, you know that if you don’t pressure him at the right time, he’s going to find the forward pass,” defender Brad Evans said. “He just sees the game different than most, but he can also defend … Tonight, he found a lot of space and a lot of high quality passes.”

Osvaldo Alonso maintained his ever-present status with another 90-minute performance and collected his first assist of the season. Alonso scored the first Sounders FC goal of the league campaign in March 12.

SOUNDERS FC SOUNDBYTESHead Coach Sigi Schmid:

On playing in Dallas: “Our philosophy is to play the same as we do at home. In Dallas, we’ll have to see about the weather, the heat and all of that humidity. This year is probably going to be hot and humid, so we will take that into account, as well.”

On the West Ham friendly: “It’s an opportunity for players to play. As the squad gets healthy and as guys return from Copa America, there are different players to choose from. Sometimes it’s good to keep your guys in rhythym. Playing West Ham will be a good opportunity. I think players always look forward to playing good teams. It’s going to be an exciting game.”

SOUNDERS FC WEEKLY NOTES

SOUNDERS TO PLAY WEST HAMSounders FC announced that it is hosting Barclays Premier League side West Ham United in an international friendly on Tuesday, July 5 at 7:30 p.m. PT on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field. This friendly against the historic Pre-miership club and three-time FA Cup champion marks the fifth occasion that Seattle has hosted an English side in international competition, and its tenth overall international friendly since joining MLS in 2009. Following its final home match at the Boleyn Ground at Upton Park on Tues-day, May 10 against Manchester United, West Ham is set to leave its 112-year-old East London home for the Olympic Stadium in Stratford beginning next season. West Ham has achieved its highest-ever point total in the Premier League era (62 points) during this current campaign, with Slaven Bilic’s side earning a result in 11 of its last 12 matches and on the verge of European qualification. The July 5 friendly is set to be carried regionally throughout West-ern Washington on JOEtv, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM and El Rey 1360 AM.

The international friendly is included as part of the Sounders FC 2016 Season Ticket Member package and Sea of Green half-season package. Season Tick-et Members will receive a 24-hour presale opportunity to purchase additional tickets for the match on Wednesday, May 11. Additionally, single-match tickets are available for purchase on Thursday, May 12 at 9:00 a.m. PT through SoundersFC.com, all Ticketmaster outlets, the CenturyLink Field box office or by calling 877-MLS-GOAL. To reserve the best seats and to receive complete ticketing information for the 2016 season, visit SoundersFC.com/Tickets.

Founded in 1895, West Ham United is one of eight clubs to never have fallen below the second division of English football, spending 58 of 90 league seasons in the country’s topflight. The Irons have accumulated three FA Cup championships, as well as two runner-up finishes. The London-based side has also qualified for two European finals, winning the European Cup Winners Cup in 1965 and finishing as runner-up in the competition in 1976.

FIVE FULL-STADIUM MATCHES IN 2016Seattle Sounders FC announced that it is opening the full capacity of Cen-turyLink Field for five select matches in 2016, including four clashes against Western Conference rivals, as well as New York City FC’s first-ever visit to Seattle. Additional upper-deck seating in the 300-level is being made available for games against NYCFC (June 25), LA Galaxy (July 31), Portland Timbers (August 21), Vancouver Whitecaps FC (September 17) and Real Salt Lake (October 23). Single-match tickets for these contests and the Sounders FC Five-Match Packs are available now via SoundersFC.com or by calling (877) MLS-GOAL. Starting at $25 per seat, the five-match pack includes tickets to each of the full-stadium fixtures for the best possible value.

By opening to full-stadium capacity for these select matches in 2016, Sound-ers FC continues to set the standard for soccer support in North America. Since entering Major League soccer in 2009, the Rave Green and their fans have led MLS in single-season attendance season and hold an active streak of 130 consecutive MLS sellouts, a league record.

Sounders FC has proven to be a dominant host when playing in front of larger crowds on its home turf. With crowds surpassing 45,000 or more, Sounders FC holds a record of 15-2-3, including postseason play. Of the five opponents Sounders FC is set to face in this year’s full-stadium games, Vancouver is the only one to record a win on the big stage at CenturyLink Field (2-2-0). Portland (0-4-0), LA (0-3-2) and Real Salt Lake (0-2-0) are all winless in Seattle in front of 45,000 or more, while NYCFC is set to play its first match on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field.

LAST MATCH REWIND: vs. SJ• Sounders FC improved to 4-4-1 on the season and is now eighth in the West-ern Conference with 13 points, but ranks sixth in the conference with an aver-age of 1.44 points per game. The Rave Green have lost just once in the past six matches (4-1-1) and are now 4-2-0 at home in league play this season.

• After the win, Sounders FC improved to 7-10-3 all-time versus San Jose, including a 6-5-1 mark at CenturyLink Field. The result snaps a five-match winless streak (0-3-2) against the Earthquakes.

• Jordan Morris scored for the fourth-straight contest, which tied the MLS record for most consecutive matches with a goal by a rookie. All four of Morris’ goals have come in the final 30 minutes of the match, including two in the 88th minute or later. Sounders FC has scored a second-half goal in seven straight matches. SOUNDERS FC HISTORYHEAD COACH SIGI SCHMID

Named the first Head Coach of Seattle Sounders FC on December 16, 2008, Sigi Schmid is the winningest coach in MLS history. Since 1999, Schmid’s teams have won nine major titles, including two MLS Cups.

A two-time MLS Coach of the Year, Schmid has led Sounders FC to seven-consecutive appearances in the MLS Cup Playoffs, marking the second-longest active streak while nearing the record for most consecutive postseason appearances by an expansion team.

Schmid also guided Sounders FC to a record three-straight Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup titles, becoming the first team in 42 years to win back-to-back championships.

Schmid joined Sounders FC in its inaugural campaign after leading the Co-lumbus Crew to its first MLS Cup and Supporters’ Shield, earning MLS Coach of the Year honors in 2008. From 1999 through 2004, Schmid’s L.A. Galaxy teams won four major competitions: the 2002 MLS Cup and Supporters’ Shield, the 2001 U.S. Open Cup and the 2001 CONCACAF Champions Cup. He was voted the MLS Coach of the Year in his first season, 1999. Altogether, his Gal-axy teams were 79-53-32 and reached the MLS Cup final four times, winning three division crowns.

Schmid has twice served as the U.S. U-20 National Team head coach, most re-cently in 2005 at the FIFA World Championships. Schmid first forged a winning tradition at his alma mater, UCLA. After serving as an assistant, he was elevat-ed to head coach of the Bruins in 1980, beginning a 19-year run at the helm. He claimed three national titles (1985, 1990, 1997) and was named national coach of the year following the 1997 championship. His UCLA teams accumu-lated a record of 322-63-33. Schmid ranks No. 1 in MLS career victories (226) and games coached (495). Overall, Schmid’s record in MLS is 226-157-112. His combined postseason win total (26) is the second-highest in MLS history.
