2016 Mid-Atlantic Turfgrass Expo
Conference & Tradeshow
GUIDEBOOK
January 25-28, 2016
President’s Welcome
Fred Biggers, CGCS Bill Warpinski
VTC President MTC President
Hello and Welcome!
We are pleased to take this opportunity to
thank you for attending this inaugural Mid-
Atlantic Turfgrass Expo.
A lot of preparations have been completed
over the past year by the VTC, the MTC
and the related M-A-T-E Conference Pro-
gram and Trade Show committees to turn
this idea of combining forces into a reality.
Our intention is to put on the very best turf
conference and trade show possible this
winter. Our two recognized Mid-Atlantic
turfgrass research universities collaborated
to develop the educational program.
Use this time to attend the M-A-T-E educa-
tion tracks which appeal to your interest.
Efforts were made to fill the trade show
floor with every type of service and supplier
to the turf industry.
Please, make the time to visit as many
vendors as possible during the M-A-T-E
Trade Show. You can thank them for their
support and involvement in this new con-
ference. It is your interest and support of
their products and services which really
drives the support of this conference.
Lastly, introduce yourselves to your coun-
terparts from neighboring cities and states
and to the turfgrass teams from the Univer-
sity of Maryland and Virginia Tech. They
can be invaluable networking contacts to
grow personally and professionally.
Attending this conference is an outstanding
time to recharge your batteries, to learn
new information pertaining to your job, and
to make new friends along the way!
On behalf of the Virginia Turfgrass Council
and the Maryland Turfgrass Council, we
hope you enjoy a great conference and
show. We thank you for your support and
attendance!
Did you know that ALL profits from
M-A-T-E support turfgrass research
at the University of Maryland
and Virginia Tech?
University Welcome
Dr. Mike Goatley Dr. Tom Turner
Virginia Tech University of Maryland
Welcome to 2016 M-A-T-E. There is no
more challenging climate in which to grow
healthy turfgrass than the Mid-Atlantic, so
that means we have plenty to talk about!
It has been a pleasure for the VT and MD
Turf Teams to work together, as well as
with the Boards of the Virginia and
Maryland Turfgrass Councils in develop-
ing the largest regional educational oppor-
tunity of its kind.
No matter what area of the turfgrass in-
dustry you serve (or your level of experi-
ence), there is something in the M-A-T-E
educational program for you. While in
Fredericksburg, please take the time to
introduce yourself to the members of the
VT and UMD Turf Teams and give us
some feedback on this year's conference,
our research, and your thoughts for the
future.
We also hope you will take the time to get
to know some our guest speakers that
come from academia and professional
management positions all across the
turfgrass transition zone.
