2016 KEY FACTS AND FIGURES
Dear Colleagues,
Next year is a significant landmark for SSOW, which will be celebrating it’s 20th birthday in 2017.
To put that into context, when we first launched the event:
Hong Kong was handed over to China Princess Diana passed away Steve Jobs returned to Apple The first Harry Potter book was published
Much like the drastic change we have seen in the world since then, the event now is unrecognisable, both in terms of scale and content.
The very first event was, by all accounts, an incredibly niche gathering of professionals, with a primary focus on driving cost out of the business.
Fast forward to today, and the event brings together hundreds of shared service practitioners, with the focus increasingly shifting away from cost, and on to how to deliver greater value and drive innovation across the business at large.
While next year will be a celebration, it won’t be all about the party. Instead, the business of shared services will remain front and centre.
Similarly, the aim for next year isn’t to massively grow the number of attendees. Instead, our focus is on ensuring we have the right people in the room, and making sure they have the best experience possible.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Regard
RossHead of ANZSSON

For our 20th year we have lots of exciting changes planned, all of which are centred on enhancing the experience of our delegates:
2016 HIGHLIGHTS NEW FOR 2017CELEBRATING OUR 20TH YEAR
Speed Networkingthink speed dating but for business, enabling you to meet as many of your peers as possible in a 20 minute time frame
Interactive Discussion Groups (IDG’s) New for 2016, the IDG’s enabled ourdelegates to roll their sleeves up and engage in in-depth discussions on their biggest challenges
No Sales Pitchespresentations will remain exclusivelypractitioner lead, with a view to facilitatingpeer to peer sharing
Awards Dinnerthe 19th Annual Awards Dinner saw winners from ACT Government, Ports of Auckland, Queensland Urban Utilities and MAS Legato
Event AppVersion 2.0 of our event app was better than ever, giving a genuine digital layer to the networking opportunities on site
Welcome DrinksA chance to break the ice and networkwith fellow attendee before the event kicks off
Delegate Profilingprofiling our audience in advance ensuresthat we tailor the event content to theirneeds, as well as only introducing them to the solution providers who are most likely to solve their challenges
Big Ideas SpeakersOnce again our big ideas speakers provided an out the box perspective about the changes that are taking place in the global economy
Networking Lunches and Dinnersprovided niche networking opportunities over a 5* dinner in the Melbourne CBD
Functional Streamsnow a mainstay of the event, the functional streams give our delegates the chance to network with their functional peers, be they finance, HR, procurement, IT or multifunctional
Audience Polling and Q+ Aone of the key functions of SSOW is to allow our community to benchmark their progress. With that in mind our live polling and Q+A gives a real time pulse check of the SSO industry in Australasia
1 20th Birthday Celebration – Our awards dinner is always a highlight, but given that it is our 20th year, expect something truly spectacular
2 New Venue – After 4 years in Melbourne, and following our post event delegate survey, we will be shifting the event to Sydney. This will mean fresh faces, site tours and a new venue
3 Innovation – the theme for 2017 is innovation, enabling you to see what your peers are doing that is both out of the ordinary and driving real business results
4 Award Winners Panel – to share the key lessons learned from those who were voted best in class
5 More Interactive Learning Formats - Debates, fire-side chats and TED style ‘guru unplugged’ session will move the event away from the traditional ‘death by power point’ conference format
6 9 Conference Streams - down from 15 in 2016, with a view of focusing on quality rather than quantity
7Future-Focused Discussion – we all know what companies have achieved, so rather than reliving the past, 2017 will open the discussion and look to the future of how organisations can leverage opportunities such as RPA to gain a competitive edge.
