The Tax Institute is committed to honouring and showcasing the best and brightest in the tax profession. The Tax Adviser of the Year Awards (“The Awards”) have been introduced to acknowledge the profession’s highest achievers.

The Awards recognise tax professionals across all levels of experience for their achievements and commitment to excellence in tax practice, professionalism, high ethical standards and leadership.

They are judged by an independent expert panel made up of industry figures and members of the profession, together with a range of other distinguished stakeholders.

There are four award categories recognising individual excellence and achievement at different levels of experience.

Emerging Tax Star AwardRecognising inspirational, emerging tax professionals with commitment and passion for building a successful career in tax.

To apply, the nominee must:

� be a Tax Institute Member

� be a CTA1 Foundations or equivalent graduate

� have less than 5 years’ tax experience

� show tax technical expertise*

� have tax community involvement

� show initiative in growing the tax profession.

SME Tax Adviser of the Year AwardRecognising inspirational and successful tax professionals that advise in the SME space, exhibiting excellence and innovation in tax communities.

To apply, the nominee must:

� be a Tax Institute member

� have more than 5 years’ tax experience

� show tax technical expertise

� show continuing knowledge development

� have tax community involvement

� exhibit ethics and professionalism.

Corporate Tax Adviser of the Year AwardRecognising inspirational and successful tax professionals that advise in the corporate space, exhibiting excellence and innovation in tax communities.

To apply, the nominee must:

� be a Tax Institute member

� have more than 5 years’ tax experience

� show tax technical expertise

� show continuing knowledge development

� have tax community involvement

� exhibit ethics and professionalism.

Chartered Tax Adviser of the Year AwardRecognising inspirational and successful tax professionals that advise in the corporate space, exhibiting excellence and innovation in tax communities.

To apply, the nominee must:

� be a CTA Tax Institute member

� have more than 15 years’ tax experience

� hold a leadership position in the tax profession

� demonstrate the mark of expertise

� have tax community involvement

� exhibit ethics and professionalism.

Short-listed applicantsShort-listed applicants will be given the opportunity to complete a detailed application form expanding on their CV and answer from the first application stage. This will offer our judges the opportunity to further understand the applicant and how they emulate the values of the chosen category.

This will be supplied to an independent expert judging panel made up of industry figures and leading members of the profession to select the three finalists and a winner.

PRIZES

The Tax Adviser of the Year Awards are presented at our annual National Convention Gala Dinner. The National Convention is one of The Tax Institute’s largest events attracting leading tax professionals from over 280 organisations across the nation. The event has over 450 delegates each year.

As a short-listed applicant, you will receive:

� recognition for your achievements in the tax profession

� a logo to use on your website and stationery

� promotion through social media and marketing.

As a finalist, you will receive:

� recognition as a finalist in your category

� finalist logo to use on your website, stationery and signature to promote your abilities to clients

� flights, accommodation and delegate registration to attend the 2016 National Convention in Melbourne from 2 to 4 March, where you will be presented with your certificate in front of colleagues and peers at the gala dinner on 3 March

� a finalist’s certificate and frame to display in your office

� marketing on our website, social media and video provided to The Tax Institute members and the greater tax profession.

As the winner, you will receive in addition to being a finalist:

� recognition as a the winner in your category

� finalist logo to use on your website,stationery and signature to promote your abilities to clients

� a prestigious winner trophy to display in your office

� a winner certificate and frame

� marketing on our website, social media and video provided to The Tax Institute members and the greater tax profession

� enhanced standing with a profile in the Taxation in Australia journal and on The Tax Institute’s website.

The Awards have national media coverage which will provide you with not only brand exposure to our members, but also the profession at large. This exposure includes various media platforms including social media, print newspapers such as Australian Financial Review and more.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

ApplicantsEntries will be accepted from individuals only, however, you can nominate a peer through our simple online nomination process. Entrants can only enter one award category per year. Previous winners are unable to enter the same category again. Previous finalists are able to enter the same or another category.

JudgingEntries will be reviewed by an independent expert judging panel made up of industry figures and leading members of the profession.

The judging processThe judging will be conducted using a score-based system and the finalists will be advised via phone and/or email.

Confidentiality and conflict of interestAward judges will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement and a conflict of interest disclosure. This is to ensure that all information is kept confidential and to disclose any conflicts of interest that they may have with regard to applicants.

ConfidentialityAll information provided will be considered as commercial-in-confidence by The Tax Institute and will only be accessible to the organising staff and the judging panel. No information contained in the applications will be published, or used for media purposes, without the applicant’s express permission and clearance.

Similarly, entrants will need to ensure their clients’ privacy in any examples they provide.

Travel The finalists and winners will all be presented with their certificate in front of colleagues and peers at the 2016 National Convention gala dinner on 3 March.

Finalists must be willing and available to attend the National Convention gala dinner and agree to have photos taken and stories used for marketing and promotional purposes. They must also be willing to be contacted by media, if required and within reason, after entry of the awards and for the duration of 2016.
