NINJA WESTERN AUSTRALIA 2016 PRODUCT PROFILE Australian Noodle Wheat Cereal Breeding for Australia • WA’s highest yielding ANW • Yields on average, exceeding Mace by 5-6% across WA’s noodle growing regions • Mid-season maturity, complementary to Zen and other mid-long varieties • Robust disease package, including excellent yellow spot resistance • Available for planting in 2017 Pedigree Ninja is a Calingiri and Wyalkatchem derivative. Variety Overview Ninja is set to become WA’s noodle yield benchmark with yields on average exceeding Mace by 5-6% across the states noodle growing regions. This significant yield advantage, coupled with potential noodle premiums, provides growers with a highly profitable varietal alternative. Ninja is a mid-season ANW with its best performance observed with May sowings. The variety has been a stand-out performer within InterGrain breeding trials and NVT over the last few years. Ninja has a robust disease resistance package, including good yellow spot resistance (MRMSp) providing an effective level of resistance for wheat on wheat rotations. It has moderate stripe (MSp) and good leaf (MRp) rust resistance although stem rust will need to be proactively managed when disease pressure is present. Ninja has very good udon noodle qualities with an improvement in colour and elasticity when compared to Calingiri. The variety also has good physical grain qualities, exhibiting good grain size (low screenings) and hectolitre weight.
