F R O M T H E B O A R D C H A I R

It took me moving away from Cleveland and residing in a certain football-rival town on a river in southern Ohio to hear the term “Mistake on the Lake” for the first time. I remember being somewhat stunned over this teasing moniker bestowed on my hometown. Maybe I lived in a bubble up until that point that I hadn’t heard the expression. Who knows? When I inquired of the individual smirking at me over being from Cleveland, “Have you ever been there?” the response I received was “No, I’ve just heard.”

I have no idea what became of that person in the past couple of decades but I can assume that he has “heard” about Cleveland now. Our winning sports teams, our delectable restaurant scene, our Rock Hall, our playing host to major national conventions have put my beloved town in the spotlight.

There is one fantastic feature, a “gem” if you will, that one needs to be live and in person in the CLE to truly experience and that is our “Emerald Necklace,” the Cleveland Metroparks. The zoo, the beach, bike trails, hike trails, restaurants and so many other stellar amenities are managed by the Metroparks and this year, that entity is 100 years old. At our upcoming Chamber of Commerce meeting Brian Zimmerman, the CEO of the Cleveland Metroparks, will talk about the anniversary as well as the future of the parks. It is a great benefit in Lakewood to be a suburb surrounded by the Metroparks and there’s no doubt that our proximity contributes to making our town the hot commodity that it is. Happy Anniversary Cleveland Metroparks and thanks for making this city so special. More like a “Remake on the Lake.”
