First Baptist Church, Burnet “Loving Jesus and Serving Burnet
since 1877”
I am so proud of how Jesus has used our church to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
Galatians 6:2 tells us to “Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the Law of Christ.” That’s just
what you’ve done. You have given thousands of dollars to purchase needed supplies, several of our
members have been deployed to feed, help clean up, and to distribute needed items. You have fed and
housed evacuees, purchased and collected needed items, and delivered them to places most in need.
We are committed to continue helping. Several will be going to Temple on September 30th to receive
training from the Texas Baptist Men. We want to do as much as we can with TBM because they are
so organized, experienced and efficient when it comes to disaster relief. We have also partnered with
First Baptist Marble Falls to assist in recovery at Rockport. Continue to watch for opportunities to be
involved.
The container we filled and shipped to Romania is almost there. Dennis will be taking personal
vacation to go to Romania and meet the container and get it ready for the team that will be going
October 18th. I will be part of that team and I can’t wait to see what all Jesus does as we go and
distribute all the things you contributed.
On October 1st we will be hosting the Annual Meeting of our Burnet/Llano Association. Ruby
is preparing the meal and is utilizing our Youth, RA’s and GA’s to help. I have been to dozens of
Association meetings and do not remember ever seeing young people helping. Way to go Ruby and
young people! We will also have some outstanding preaching at the Association Meeting by Richard
Taylor. He has over twenty-five years experience serving churches, and leading revivals, crusades,
retreats, camps, and leadership development conferences. You will not want to miss this meeting. It
begins at 5:00 with a meeting, then the meal at 6:00 and a worship service at 7:00.
Again I want to thank Peyton and Natalie Porterfield for their service here and the impact they
had on the students in the Hill Country. Continue to pray for them as they begin their new ministry in
Texarkana and pray for us as we begin the process of filling our staffing needs. I am so honored to be
your pastor. See you Sunday.

By the time you read this, I should be in Romania and have all the items our church sent
stored away, waiting for the mission team to get here and distribute them. I pray that's the
case. It was a real blessing to load the many coats, jackets, pajamas, blankets, quilts, shoes,
boots and all the rest and I know it will be an even better blessing for the team to hand them
out. Thank you, church for your generosity and giving in the name of Jesus, our Lord.
I recently heard from Luke Downs. They made it to Ecuador and all is well. Some of their
children were sick, but they're better and now things are proceeding according to plan. Kids
are enrolling in school, in-country paperwork is being completed and Luke is ready to get
started. Please remember them in your prayers.
There are quite a few of you enrolled in Texas Baptist Men's basic disaster relief training
known as yellow cap training. I pray all went well. If you were not able to attend but still
want to go, Swanna and I will be going to Austin on Friday, Nov. 17th in the evening for that
same training. Contact me if you would like to go. We are making plans for several work trips
to the coast to help communities and churches rebuild. Details will be posted as soon as they
are completed. If you can, please earmark some time off next year for working over there.
This is a mission opportunity you won't want to miss.
Also, remember that choir rehearsal will resume on Wed. Oct. 11th after Bible study. We'll
be starting to work on Christmas songs soon. Can you believe that??? Christmas songs. Main
Street Bethlehem will be here before you know it.
Thank you again for the blessing to work with
this church. Father reveals new mercies every day
and many of them have to do with being here.
Dennis

Notes of Appreciation, Voice of the Martyrs Update
The following are cards and letters that have been received by FBC over the past month:
“Church Family - We thank you for the bright and beautiful orange bi-colored begonia and
for the wonderful meal you provided our family - most of all for your prayers, help, and
supportive love”. Bonnie McCoy
“Thank you so much for participating in BCISD’s back to school breakfast for staff. It is
always great to meet people in our community. We appreciate you supporting our school
district. It was a fabulous surprise to win the HEB card you provided. Thank you!”.
Wendy Keele
“Dear Church Family, We are so blessed to have such a wonderful church full of love and
kindness. Mother loved this church and especially her Sunday School class of sweet ladies. The
fuchsia kalanchoe plant you sent will hold a special place in our home. Thank you for the
many cards and expressions of sympathy and prayers. In His love, “ Bonnie and Jerry Jordan,
family of Juanita Gibson
“The Burnet Bulldog Athletic Booster Club, Burnet Student Athletes and Coaches appreciate
all the support. Thank you for becoming a BBABC member and placing an ad in the
Football/All Sport Program for the upcoming seasons. All proceeds go towards sport activity
funds, varsity awards program, scholarships, “Meet the Bulldogs” and approved equipment
requests!”. Sincerely, BBABC Board
Government officials in China’s Zhejiang province are currently monitoring churches to
ensure that children aren’t attending. In addition, more than 100 area churches received
verbal warnings against teenagers attending church services, Sunday school or other
church-related activities. Many Christians are standing up for the religious freedom of
Chinese youth, but they remain concerned about the future. Pray that Christian children
and teens will find new ways to grow in their faith and experience fellowship.
Pray that their parents will remain strong in the faith, and pray for the authorities who
try to prevent children from learning about Jesus.
Voice of the Martyrs “Advance” regional conference will be held in San Antonio this
November 11, at Calvary Temple Assembly of God. This is a free one-day event that
features speakers from around the world who have undergone persecution for the name of
Jesus. Please visit www.vomadvance.com to register and for more information.
