Kyle Rechlicz enters her sixth season as the headcoachoftheMilwaukeewomen’sbasketballteamin2017-18.

RechliczhasquicklyledMilwaukeebacktoaplaceofprominence,headlinedbyback-to-backpostsea-son appearances and a program-record-tying 22-win season.

2016-17 was the first with higher expectations atMilwaukeeinsometimeandRechliczmadesureherteam delivered in multiple ways: • UWM put together a 22-12 campaign to tie the

2005-06 squad for themostwins inprogramhistory.

• MilwaukeewonitsfirsttwopostseasongamesinprogramhistorywithatriptotheWBIsemifinal.

• The Panthers powered to an early season tour-namentwinwithback-to-back victories at theTDBankClassicinBurlington,Vt.

• Milwaukee beat in-state rivalsWisconsin (80-63)andGreenBay(72-60)forthefirsttimeinthe same season in 25 years.

That all came just one year after Rechliczmadeabig splash in 2015-16. Despite being picked ninthinthe10-teamHorizonLeague,Rechliczguidedthatteamtoasecond-placefinishinboththeregularsea-sonandconferencetournament.Thatmarkedjustthethirdtimeinleaguehistorythatateamfinishedinthebottomtwooneyearandthetoptwothefollowingseasonforanincredibleturnaround.ThatearnedMil-waukeeaberthintheWNIT-theteam’sfirstpostsea-sonappearance inadecadeand just thirdoverall,finishingwitha19-13overallrecord.

For all of her efforts, Rechlicz was named HorizonLeagueCoachoftheYearin2016,becomingjustthesecond coach in program history to earn that distinc-tion. Rechlicz’splayersalsoearnedplentyofpraiseoverthe past two seasons at Milwaukee. Steph Kosto-wicz has been named all league each of the pasttwoyears,whileLizzieOdegardbecamethesecond

UWM player named to the All-Freshman team in the lastthreeyears.Pantherplayersalsohavebeenrec-ognized with Horizon League Athlete of the Week honors 10 times over the past two standout seasons.

Lookingback,thewritingwasonthewallforallthissuccess for Rechlicz. In 2014-15, her team claimedUWM’sfirstpostseasonvictoryinfiveyears,featuredafirst-teamall-leagueselectionforthefirsttimesince2010-11 and also had a member of the league’sall-freshmansquadforthefirsttimeinfourseasons.

Rechliczbringsanup-tempooffensethatfinishedthe2016-17 campaign with near-record three-point to-talsonceagain.Infact,fourofthetopfivemarksinthe record book for both three-pointersmade andthree-pointers attempted have all occurred in Re-chlicz’s tenure at Milwaukee.

InherfirstseasononthesidelineswiththePanthers,RechliczhelpedtheUWMoffenseincreasescoringbyalmost 15 percent from the previous year and includ-ed a record-setting three-point attack. Milwaukee broke school records for three-pointers made andthree-pointersattemptedandwasamongthebestinall of the NCAA in three-pointers made per game andthree-pointfieldgoalpercentage.

Her teambroke threeHorizon League recordsand10 different school records, including fewest turn-overs per game and a new standard for points in a contestwhenthePanthersfinishedwith116againstBradley.

Inadditiontoscoring,herteamsalsotakecareoftheball.ThePanthersbroketheschoolrecordforfewestturnoverspergameherfirstseason,resetithersec-ond season and now hold the top three spots.

Shealsogotofftoagreatstart-becomingthefirstUWMcoachtowinthreeofherfirstfivecontestsofherinitialcampaign.Inherfirstseason,RechliczwasalsooneoftheyoungestcoachesattheNCAADivi-sionIlevel-justsevencoacheshadearlierbirthyearswhenthe2012-13campaignbegan.

Rechliczwasnamedtheseventhcoachinprogramhis-tory in May 2012 and came to Milwaukee from the University of Wisconsin. There she served as assis-tant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Badgers during the 2011-12 campaign.

Many Wisconsin basketball fans may better knowRechlicz as Kyle Black, whowas a keymember ofvery successfulUWwomen’sbasketball teams from1998-2002. For the 2000-01 and 2001-02 teams that went to the NCAA tournament, she served as co-captain and was named to the Academic All-Big Ten Team.

Since her playing days, Rechlicz has been associ-ate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the UniversityofDayton(2007-2011)andtheassistantcoach and recruiting coordinator for Cleveland State (2003-2007).

Rechlicz,whowasbroughtback to heralmamaterinApril2011bythenfirst-yearheadcoachBobbieKelsey, directed the UW-Madison recruiting efforts thatledtothesigningoffivehighlyregardedplayersand one transfer from Connecticut. She also assisted withallaspectsofon-courtcoaching,withspecificre-sponsibilityforplayerpreparationandskilldevelop-ment of guards.

AsaBadger,RechliczhelpedguideWisconsintofourpostseason appearances, including NCAA tournament berthsin2001and2002.ShewasoneofWisconsin’spremier 3-point shooters, setting a school record with seven 3-pointers in collecting a career-high 26 points against Holy Cross. She led the Big Ten Conference in three-pointfieldgoalpercentageasajunior,hitting40.6percent frombeyondthearc.Asasenior,Re-chlicz earned her second Academic All-Big Ten honor whileaveragingacareer-best12.1pointspergame.

The Flyers made four postseason appearances during Rechlicz’s tenure there, including twoNCAA tourna-mentberths.Daytonadvanced to the second roundoftheNCAAtournamentin2009-10,finishing25-8on the season. The Flyers also appeared in the NCAA tournamentin2010,losinginthefirstroundtoPennState.DaytonmadeWNITappearancesin2008and2009, advancing to the second round in 2009.
