Mississippi State is coming off a 2018-19 campaign that saw the Bulldogs post a 15-1 conference record to clinch the second title in program history. State followed that up by winning the team’s first ever SEC Tournament Championship with a commanding 101-70 victory over Arkansas and then earning a third straight Elite Eight appearance. • The Bulldogs entered the 2019-20 season with their sights set on a third consecutive SEC title, a feat that no program has accomplished outright since 2001-04. Mississippi State owns the nation’s longest road winning streak at 12 games. This season, the Bulldogs own wins at Marquette, Louisiana and Jackson State. (See note on Page 5) After being ranked in every AP Top 25 poll this season, State has been in the AP rankings for 101 straight weeks. (See note on Page 4) With the departure of SEC Player of the Year Teaira McCowan, Mississippi State had a major void to fill in the post this season. Sophomore forward Jessika Carter has answered that need, leading the team with 14.1 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. As a sophomore, McCowan averaged 8.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. • Graduate guard Jordan Danberry was granted a fifth year of eligibility by the NCAA in August after not redshirting when she transferred to Mississippi State in January 2017. This season, she leads the team in steals (2.9 spg) and ranks second in scoring (13.2 ppg) and assists (2.9 apg). • Rickea Jackson has shown why she was one of the top players in last year’s signing class. The freshman forward is third on the team in scoring at 11.8 points per game and is shooting 46 percent from the field. She has scored in double figures in six of the last eight games and had a team-high 15 points against No. 3 Stanford. She’s the first true freshman to start the season for Schaefer since Victoria Vivians in 2014-15. • With the victory at Marquette on 11/25/19, Vic Schaefer’s claimed his 200th win at MSU in just his 256 game, making him the second-fastest coach to ever achieve that with an SEC program. (See note on Page 6) Mississippi State won the 2017 edition of the Duel in the Desert, defeating Syracuse and UNLV en route to the title. It marks the last time MSU won a regular-season tournament after the squad didn’t play in one last season. #HailStateHoops Communications Contacts Josh Lively (Primary Contact) Office: (662) 325-7556 Cell: (865) 235-9728 Email: [email protected] McRae Clay (Secondary Contact) Office: (662) 325-7556 Cell: (601) 850-9610 Email: [email protected] @HailStateWBK Facebook.com/HailStateWBK HailStateWBK HailState.com ‘19-20 Record ...............................................5-5 Head Coach .............................. OFFENSE: EFFICIENT & HIGH-SCORING

    • • •

    6

The Bulldogs have held opposing offenses to less than 10 points in 6 quarters this season.

STATE’S OFFENSE AMONG BEST IN THE COUNTRY • Although Vic Schaefer’s teams are widely known for their

defense, Mississippi State has established itself as one of the best offensive teams in Division I.

    • Through 12 games, State ranks seventh the nation in scoring offense at 84.8 ppg and ranks ninth in scoring margin (+27.1).

    • With five players shooting over 50 percent from the field, the Bulldogs rank 16th in the country and top the SEC in field-goal percentage with a .470 clip.

    • Another key to MSU’s early offensive success has been its ability to take care of the ball and make the extra passes for better shots. State ranks fifth in the SEC in assist/turnover ratio (1.09).

    • When the Bulldogs aren’t knocking down shots, State is crashing the glass to get a second opportunity at a basket. With 189 offensive rebounds on the season, Mississippi State has gotten the rebound on 44 percent of its missed baskets and turned that into 224 second-chance points.

BULLDOGS SET MSU SINGLE-GAME SCORING RECORD • In its win against Murray State, Mississippi State’s offense

exploded for 124 points against the Racer, breaking the MSU single-game scoring record.

    • Standing for 33 years, the previous record was set on February 24, 1986, when Mississippi State defeated Judson College, 117-35.

    • The 124 points also marks the highest-scoring performance of any Division I team so far this season.

    • State was just one point shy of tying the program record

for margin of victory, which stands at 82 points set in the contest against Judson College.

    • MSU has now scored at least 100 points 23 times in Schaefer’s eight seasons and has eclipsed the 110-point margin seven times with him at the helm.

HIGH-SCORING OFFENSE UNDER SCHAEFER • Under Schaefer, Mississippi State has developed into one of

the top scoring offenses in the nation. • His teams have ranked inside the top 25 in scoring during

each of the last three seasons, and his Bulldogs currently boast the NCAA’s best scoring offense.

    Season Scoring NCAA SEC2019-20 84.8 7 22018-19 86.2 2 12017-18 81.1 11 12016-17 75.9 22 22015-16 69.2 82 52014-15 73.1 30 32013-14 70.9 93 72012-13 55.2 287 14

    DEFENSE: TENACIOUS & RELENTLESS

SECRETARY OF DEFENSE • Vic Schaefer’s teams have always had a major emphasis

on one area: defense. If you want to play for him, you have to play lockdown, tenacious and suffocating defense for 40 minutes every game. It’s this expectation and mentality that has earned Schaefer the nickname “Secretary of Defense.”

    • So far this season, State’s relentless defense has forced opponents into turning the ball over 272 times for an average of 22.8 turnovers per game. That number ranks 16th in the nation and second in the SEC.

    • The Bulldogs have been great at rejecting shots with an average of 5.9 blocks per game, which is 12th in the Division I. Jessika Carter has led the charge by posting 2.3 bpg this season to rank 26th in the country and third in the SEC. The sophomore forward has four games with three or more blocks on the year.

    • State’s on-ball pressure has been suffocating all season, especially in the press. MSU ranks second in the SEC with 10.6 steals per game. Jordan Danberry is pacing the team in the category with 2.9 spg to rank third in league and 25th in the nation.

    • While there is no ranking for the stat, Mississippi State certainly ranks amongst the country’s best teams at drawing charges. So far, the Bulldogs have taken 38 charges, led by 21 from Myah Taylor.

BULLDOGS SHUTDOWN STANFORD’S WILLIAMS • Stanford point guard Kiana Williams is one of the top

point guards and players in the country, earning spots on the Naismith Trophy, John R. Wooden Award and Ann Meyers

Drysdale Award preseason watch lists.• Entering the game against Mississippi State, the All-Pac-12

performer ranked seventh in the country with an impressive 4.43 assist/turnover ratio. Against the Bulldogs, Williams had eight turnovers and just one assist.

    • Eight turnovers marked the most in the junior’s 79-game career with the Cardinal.

    42017 & 2018 NCAA NATIONAL FINALISTS 2018 & 2019 SEC CHAMPIONS

MISSISSIPPI STATE IN THE AP RANKINGS • On Nov. 24, 2014, the Associated Press voted Mississippi

State back into the top 25 for the first time in four years. With MSU earning a spot in the preseason poll heading into the 2019-20 season, the Bulldogs have now spent 101 consecutive weeks inside the AP Top 25, marking the longest streak in program history.

    • During the stretch, State was ranked inside the top 10 for 63 total weeks, including five weeks this season.

    • Since beginning the streak, MSU has been ranked as a top-five team for 33 weeks, including a stretch of 14 straight weeks during the 2017-18 season.

    • When the preseason rankings came out on Oct. 30, Mississippi State earned its eighth preseason ranking in program history, checking in at No. 10 in the country.

CARTER HAVING A BREAKOUT SEASON • Through 11 games, Jessika Carter has been one of the

best players in the SEC.• The sophomore forward ranks inside the top 15 in the

    league in scoring (14.1 ppg/11th), rebounding (10.3 rpg/2nd), blocks (2.3/3rd) and field-goal percentage (.554/6th).

    • Carter has led State in rebounding eight times and has scored double-figures in nine contests. She has also posted three double-doubles this year and has three games with four blocks.

    • Carter was named SEC Player of the Week after dominating in State’s wins over Murray State and Troy, averaging 22.0 points, 16.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game.

    • Against Murray State, Carter recorded the first double-double of her career with 25 points and 18 rebounds, both of which are personal bests at the time. She had already notched the double-double before the end of the first quarter as MSU went on to set the program’s single-game scoring record with 124 points against the Racers.

    • Carter was all over the glass at Marquette, grabbing a career-high 21 boards to go along with 14 points.

TAYLOR BRINGING ENERGY TO BOTH ENDS OF THE FLOOR • Myah Taylor has spent the last two seasons learning from

the two best point guards in program history in Jazzmun Holmes and Morgan WIlliam and has now stepped into the starting role as this year’s floor general.

    • So far, Taylor has made her presence felt on both ends of the floor. The redshirt sophomore leads the team in assists (48) and is second in steals (26). Her 2.09 assist/turnover ratio ranks sixth in the SEC and 69th in the country.

    • Taylor is the best help defender on the team and constantly is creating issues for opposing teams as they try to get into their offense.

    • After posting a career-high 20 points against Troy, Taylor is averaging 6.6 ppg while shooting 52 percent from the field.

    • But where Taylor has really excelled this season and energized the crowd has been her ability to take a charge. On the year, she already has 20 charges taken while no other person on the team has more than four.

ESPINOZA-HUNTER LIGHTS OUT FROM BEYOND THE ARC • Andra Espinoza-Hunter stepped into the void left by

Chloe Bibby’s season-ending injury and became a lights-out three-point shooter, leading the Bulldogs with 68 made threes on the year.

    • In the SEC Championship game, she knocked down 8-of-11 attempts from behind the arc, setting the SEC Tournament record and tying State’s single-game record for made threes.

    • Her 42.2 percent three-point percentage as a sophomore ranks seventh in MSU single-season history. She scored 66.4 percent of her points (204) off three-point shots and had 11 games with 3 or more made threes.

    • This year, she ranks second on the team in 3-pointers with 15 and is averaging 7.8 points per game.

FRESHMAN TRIO MAKING EARLY IMPACT• Mississippi State knew it was going to rely on newcomers

early and often this season, including members of the program’s highest-rated signing class.

    • Through 12 games, Rickea Jackson, Aliyah Matharu and JaMya Mingo-Young have solidified their spots in State’s rotation and have made impacts on the court for MSU.

    • As expected, Jackson has played the biggest role thus far for the Bulldogs, starting in all but one game this season. The McDonald’s All-American ranks third on the team in scoring with 11.8 points per game while shooting 46 percent from the field and 39 percent from beyond the arc.

    • Jackson has finished with double-digit scoring in six of the last eight games, including 18 points vs. Green Bay and a team-high 15 points against No. 3 Stanford. Against Marquette, she dropped seven points in the fourth quarter to spark MSU’s offense. She notched the first double-double of her career with 17 points and 10 rebounds vs. USF.

    • Matharu and Mingo-Young have split time competing as the No. 2 point guard in the rotation. Matharu has also seen time at the two-guard position. The 2019 espnW Stock Riser of the Year is averaging 6.3 points per game behind three double-digit scoring efforts this season. She ranks third on the team in threes with 10.

    • After dropping 14 points in the season opener against Southern Miss, Mingo-Young has been relatively quiet when it comes to scoring, but her play has been very solid on both ends of the floor. Against third-ranked Stanford, she played 30 minutes off the bench and posted seven points, four rebounds, four assists, four steals and a block.

    • Mingo-Young is averaging 4.8 points per game while ranking third on the team in steals (15) and assists (21). She also boasts a 1.75 assist/turnover ratio.

BULLDOGS OWN NATION’S LONGEST ROAD WIN STREAK • With the win at Louisiana giving MSU 12 straight road wins,

Mississippi State extended the nation’s longest road win streak.

    • UConn is second with a 11-game winning streak followed by Baylor (9), South Carolina (7) and a three-way tie for fifth with six wins.

    • So far this season, State owns wins at Jackson State, Marquette and Louisiana.

    • Last year, the Bulldogs ended the season by going a perfect 8-0 in SEC Road Games along with securing a victory at Washington in December.

    • Since the 2017-18 season, MSU has posted a combined 25-1 record in road games. In that stretch, State boasted a program-record 13-game road win streak before falling at No. 7 Oregon on Dec. 18, 2018.

    • As one of the nation’s top teams away from home, the Bulldogs have beaten five ranked teams on their home courts since 2017-18, including four top-15 opponents.

BULLDOGS SIGN TWO TOP-100 PLAYERS IN 2020 CLASS• Once again, Vic Schaefer and the Mississippi State women’s

basketball team found success on the recruiting trail, landing a pair of top-100 players in five star guard Madison Hayes and four star forward DeYona Gaston.

    • Hayes, who could potentially be State’s second-ever McDonald’s All-American signee, is rated as the No. 29 player in the country by espnW. The 2019 USA Today Tennessee Player of the Year is the third top-30 prospect to sign with MSU in the last two classes.

    • Hayes earned a spot on the Naismith Trophy Player of the Year Watch List and the USA Today All-USA Preseason Team for the 2019-20 season. As a junior, she averaged 25.2 ppg, 12.2 rpg and 4.0 spg in helping her team to a district championship and received All-Tennessee first team honors by USA Today.

    • Rated 95th in the country, Gaston was one of the most highly-touted players in the 2020 class early on. As a freshman at Pearland High School in Texas, she averaged a double-double with 17.5 ppg and 11.3 rpg to go along with 3.0 bpg and 2.0 spg. However, she missed all of her sophomore season due to injuries, dropping her in the rankings.

    • Gaston proved she was still one of the best players in the country, posting 18.1 ppg on 52 percent shooting as a junior in 2018-19. She also averaged 9.5 rpg and 1.9 bpg. In two seasons, she’s totaled 926 points, 542 rebounds, 128 blocks, 92 steals and 58 assists.

    • With the goal of putting together an impressive senior year, Gaston is coming off a campaign where she claimed TGCA 6A District Player of the Year as well as the Defensive Player of the Year honors en route to earning a spot on the All-State team.

DANBERRY NAMED TO NAISMITH TROPHY WATCH LIST • Jordan Danberry added another preseason honor to her

list, being tabbed to the 2020 Women’s Citizen Naismith Trophy Watch List, which is given to the nation’s top player by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

    • She was one of 50 players to be named to the list. She was also only one of eight players from the SEC to earn the recognition.

    • Mississippi State is one of 15 schools to have a player selected for both the men’s and women’s watch lists. Preseason All-American Reggie Perry represented the men

    • The other schools to achieve the feat were Arizona, Baylor, Duke, Iowa State, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, NC State, Oregon, Oregon State and Seton Hall.

MCCOWAN IMPRESSES IN FIRST SEASON WITH FEVER • After being selected third overall by the Indiana Fever in the

2019 WNBA Draft, Teaira McCowan made an immediate impact with her new team.

    • The former All-American and SEC Player of the Year continued to bring in the awards, earning a spot on the WNBA All-Rookie Team.

    • McCowan ranked second in the WNBA in rebounding (9.0 rpg), fifth in field goal percentage (51.7) and 10th in blocks (1.29 bpg) – all rookie highs.

    • McCowan set the Fever team records for single-season rebounds (305) and consecutive double-doubles (5).

    • She was the third-leading rookie scorer with 10.0 points per game, recording at least 12 points in nine of her last 10 games and finishing with a career-high 24 points three times in that span.

BULLDOGS PLACE 2ND IN GREATER VICTORIA INVITATIONAL • Competing against a stacked field, Mississippi State

finished second in the Greater Victoria Invitational after going 2-1.

    • The Bulldogs won its first two games against San Francisco and Green Bay before falling in the championship to No. 3 Stanford, 67-62.

    • MSU erased a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter to have a chance to tie the ballgame with less than 30 seconds remaining but the rally against the Cardinal came up short.

    • After facing State, Green Bay went on to defeat No. 18 Syracuse to earn a third-place finish in the tournament, while San Francisco claimed a pair of victories over Bowling Green and Houston to take fifth place.

    • Jordan Danberry earned a spot on the all-tournament team after averaging 15.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.

MSU SET FOR DUEL IN THE DESERT • With one tournament in the books, Mississippi State will

head to Las Vegas later this month to compete in the Duel in the Desert.

    • The Bulldogs won the 2017 edition of the tournament after defeating host UNLV and a ranked Syracuse squad.

    • This time around, MSU opens with South Florida, who was ranked inside the top 25 for part of the season, on Dec. 19 at Cox Pavilion.

ROSTER BREAKDOWN • Mississippi State’s 2019-20 roster features 13 players

representing 11 states, Washington, D.C. as well as Australia.• Players came to Starkville from Arkansas, California, Georgia,

Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

    • State has one graduate, four juniors, four sophomores and four freshmen.

    • Mississippi State has three returning starters from a year ago in Chloe Bibby, Jordan Danberry and Andra Espinoza-Hunter. Danberry was the only one to start all 36 games for the Bulldogs, who must replace three other players that started every game (Jazzmun Holmes, Anriel Howard and Teaira McCowan).

SCHAEFER BECOMES SECOND-FASTEST COACH TO WIN 200 GAMES AT SEC PROGRAM • Vic Schaefer has been one of the most successful coaches

in women’s basketball since joining Mississippi State. With State’s victory at Marquette on Nov. 25, 2019, the two-time National Coach of the Year became the second-fastest coach to reach 200 victories at an SEC school.

    • Achieving the milestone in just 256 games, Schaefer ranks behind only Georgia’s Andy Landers, who reached his 200th victory in 251 games.

    • The next closest coach to have accomplished the feat is Auburn’s Joe Ciampi (258), while legendary head coach Pat Summitt reached victory No. 200 in her 259th game at Tennessee.

    • Also worth noting, Schaefer was the fourth-fastest coach to reach the mark amongst active coaches at their current program, trailing only Duke’s Joanne P. McCallie (240), Baylor’s Kim Mulkey (245) and Stanford’s Tara VanDerveer (255).

NCAA GRANTS DANBERRY FIFTH YEAR OF ELIGIBILITY • On August 20, the NCAA informed Jordan Danberry that she

had been granted a fifth year of eligibility after transferring to Mississippi State and not redshirting.

    • Danberry sat out an entire year from December 2016 until making her Bulldog debut Dec. 10, 2017, against Little Rock. During this period, Danberry wasn’t eligible for a redshirt due

to playing in six games at Arkansas before transferring.• Danberry is currently pursuing an MBA after earning her

bachelor’s degree in Business Economics last December. • This past season, Danberry ranked third on the team in

scoring with 13.1 ppg and second in assists (125) and steals (65) after starting in all 36 games. The Conway, Arkansas, native was eighth in the SEC in assist/turnover ratio (1.47). She scored in double figures in 13 of 16 SEC games to average 14.3 ppg in league play.

STATE EAGER FOR BIBBY’S RETURN • Before going down with a season-ending injury in January,

Chloe Bibby was one of the most efficient 3-point shooters in the country.

    • The Warracknabeal, Australia, native ranked No. 22 in the country and third in the SEC in 3-point field goal percentage, shooting a 45-percent clip from beyond the arc, at the time of her injury.

    • She recorded seven games with at least three 3-pointers and scored in double figures 14 times for an average of 11.9 points per game. She also averaged 4.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game while shooting a .481 clip from the field.

    • Bibby scored a career-high 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting and four threes to help the Bulldogs defeat Georgia.

STATE PICKED TO FINISH THIRD IN LEAGUE, DANBERRY AND BIBBY NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-SEC TEAMS BY COACHES• As two of Mississippi State’s top returners from a year ago,

Jordan Danberry and Chloe Bibby earned preseason All-SEC recognition from league coaches.

    • Danberry earned first-team honors for her ability to get to any spot on the floor and score as well as her lockdown defense.

    • Despite coming off an injury and missing half of last season, league coaches are expecting Bibby to return to full strength and once again take her place among the country’s best 3-point shooters, placing her on the second team.

    • Mississippi State was picked to finish third in the SEC this season by both the media and coaches. The Bulldogs have placed inside the top three of the conference in each of the last five seasons.

FRESH FACES HIGHLIGHT ROSTER • After another year of losing several players to graduation,

Vic Schaefer and his staff reloaded the Mississippi State roster for the 2019-20 season by adding six newcomers to the squad.

    • On the recruiting trail, State signed in its highest-rated class in program history going into this season. The class was ranked No. 6 in the country by ESPN and was comprised of four top-100 players.

    • Rickea Jackson, who was the No. 5 player in the class, highlighted the group as Mississippi State’s first ever McDonald’s All-American signee. The two-time Gatorade Michigan Player of the Year was the top overall scorer (22.2 ppg) at the World University Games and also won a gold medal for Team USA at the 2019 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup.

    • Jackson wasn’t the only five star in the class, though. Aliyah Matharu was named the 2019 espnW HoopGurlz Stock-Riser of the Year after averaging 17.7 points and 3.5 steals per game. The 28th-ranked player helped her high school, Bishop McNamara, climb to the No. 1 spot of the espnW 25 Power Rankings for five weeks as a senior and earn a top-10 finish nationally.

    • Jayla Hemingway, who was the No. 89 player in the class, was the 2019 Gatorade Tennessee Player of the Year and is the all-time leading scorer at Houston High School in Germantown, Tennessee, with 2,599 points.

    • JaMya Mingo-Young led Loranger High School in Loranger, Louisiana, to back-to-back state titles en route to consecutive Class 3A Most Outstanding Player honors. The 97th-ranked player was named MVP of the 2019 Louisiana High School All-Star Game.

    • Mississippi State also received a pair of transfers during the offseason in Sidney Cooks and Yemiyah Morris. Cooks, who was a 2017 McDonald’s All-American, must sit out a year after transferring from Michigan State, while Morris came from junior college and is eligible immediately. Morris came on strong at the end of the World University Games, averaging 10.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game in the medal bracket.

    72017 & 2018 NCAA NATIONAL FINALISTS 2018 & 2019 SEC CHAMPIONS

BULLDOGS BRING HOME SILVER MEDAL FOR USA TEAM• After earning the opportunity to represent the United States

of America at the 2019 World University Games, the Bulldogs put together a 6-1 record against top-25 caliber teams and brought home the silver medal.

    • Mississippi State was the third full team from a women’s college program to represent USA Team in the event and was the first to medal. Maryland finished fifth when it competed in the 2017 games, while Charlotte came in sixth during the 2007 event.

    • Including its friendly against Japan before the event, USA Team rattled off six straight wins to begin the tournament and claim a spot in the gold medal game. Unfortunately, the Red, White and Blue fell in the final to a veteran Australia team that also won the event in 2017.

JACKSON, CARTER LED WAY FOR USA • Freshman forward Rickea Jackson led all players for the

event in scoring (22.2 ppg) and ranked second in field-goal percentage (.532) and sixth in steals (2.2 spg). She led the U.S. in scoring every game during the tournament and posted three games with more than 25 points.

    • Sophomore forward Jessika Carter also had a strong performance at the games, leading the squad in field-goal percentage (.618), rebounding (8.4 rpg) and blocks (0.7 bpg) while ranking second in scoring (11.7 ppg). Against Taipei, she dominated the paint with an incredible 26 points and 22 rebounds.

WORK HARD, PLAY HARD • While this was much different than State’s trip to Italy in

2018, the Bulldogs still had the opportunity to do things besides basketball.

    • One day, the squad toured the incredible Amalfi Coast, where brightly colored towns are nestled between towering mountains and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The team got the best of both worlds during the day after taking a boat tour along the coast and then getting breathtaking views from the slopes of the Lattari Mountains thousands of feet above the sea.

    • Before the games, the Bulldogs received an invitation to visit U.S. troops in the region for an Independence Day celebration “Festa Americana.” It was a festival-like atmosphere that featured carnival rides, live music and games. The night was capped off by a firework show, with Mississippi State being honored and then pushing the button to start the show.

    • On the following day, State donned the Red, White and Blue for the first time to face Japan in a friendly contest that was held at the local U.S. Naval Base.

FINAL THOUGHTS • The Bulldogs averaged 81.7 points per game while holding

opponents to 72.4 points. • State dominated the paint throughout the entire games.

    • Vic Schaefer embarks on his eighth season as the Bulldogs’ coach. He owns the second-most victories in program history, and his winning percentage through his first seven campaigns is the best in program annals.

    • Schaefer’s Bulldogs have posted six-straight seasons of 20-plus wins after the program had four 20-win campaigns in the 38 years prior to his arrival. His last three squads became the first MSU teams to eclipse 30 wins.

    • Schaefer was named the 2019 ESPNW National Coach of the Year after leading Mississippi State to a third consecu-tive Elite Eight appearance, back-to-back SEC Championships and the program’s first SEC Tournament Championship

    • In 2018, he was tabbed National Coach of the Year by Naismith, WBCA and USBWA after guiding the Bulldogs to a National Finalist finish for the second year in a row.

    • He guided the 2017-18 Bulldogs to a school-record and nation’s-best 37 wins, the team also became the first SEC squad to post a perfect regular season since 1998.

    • Under his watch, the Bulldogs won the program’s first SEC Championship and SEC Tournament Championship, earning him SEC Coach of the Year honors during three of the last five seasons.

    • In the last five seasons, his MSU squads have won 139 games, the fourth-most in Division I and the most in the SEC during that time.

    • He has produced two All-Americans (Teaira McCowan & Victoria Vivians), one SEC Player of the Year (McCowan) and nine All-SEC performers along with numerous other accolades as well.

    • He coached McCowan to a pair of National Defensive Player of the Year accolades by WBCA (2019) and Naismith (2018).

    • He helped Vivians bring home the 2018 Naismith Starting Five Ann Meyers Drysdale Award given to the nation’s best shooting guard in the country.

    • Under his guidance, Mississippi State has spent 98 consecutive weeks in the AP Top 25 rankings, the fifth-longest streak in the country.

    • In 2018-19, Mississippi State set program records for total attendance (143,578) and average attendance (8,446), which ranked fourth and fifth in the country, respectively.

    • In just his 256th game at State, Schaefer became the second-fastest coach ever to achieve the milestone with an SEC program ahead of hall-of-fame coaches Joe Ciampi (258 games), Pat Summitt (259), Van Chancellor (263), Jim Foster (280) and Sue Gunter (280). Only Georgia’s Andy Landers (251) reached the mark at a faster pace.

    • Schaefer also went to the Final Four in his previous two stops at Texas A&M and Arkansas. In nine seasons in College Station, he helped the Aggies to 212 wins and seven NCAA Tournament appearances, including the 2011 national championship.

    • He was part of 121 wins in six seasons at Arkansas, taking the Razorbacks to the Final Four in his first season. The Razorbacks went to the NCAA Tournament four times and won a WNIT title during his time on the staff in Fayetteville.
