This application was continued from the March 23rd Historic District Commission meeting due to the request that the applicant present the following changes to the design of the houses for further review, as follows:

Increase side house windows,

use horizontal siding,

mimic the appearance of crawlspace,

enhance the porch column size,

provide a few different elements in each house so not to appear identical.

On April 27, 2017 the City of Gastonia Historic District Commission (HDC) met and approved your request for a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) as follows as the changes recommended had been provided. The construction of two single family houses, with location, size, design, color and materials

as indicated in elevations presented to the Commission at the April 27th HDC meeting.

The building of two new driveways, with location, size, and materials as indicated in the original application as presented to the Commission at the March 23rd HDC meeting.

The installation of new landscaping around the two new houses, with design, plant materials, and location as indicated in original application as presented at the March 23rd HDC meeting.

This letter shall serve as a Certificate of Appropriateness in compliance with the guidelines set forth by the Historic District Commission and the City of Gastonia’s Unified Development Ordinance. This letter should be kept for your records.

On April 27th, 2017 and May 2, 2017, a subcommittee of the Historic District Commission reviewed your request and made the following decision(s) regarding your application for a Certificate of Appropriateness: APPROVED the following request:

Installation of a double sided sign face on existing blade (30”w x 120”H) on front of building and animal artwork on east side of building. Material and design to be as included in application.

Installation of donor’s name “Lenora Borchardt Center” on front of awning to be white vinyl. Design to be as included in application.

Installation of three dimensional white letters on the east and west sides of building to be per designs and sizes included in application with a total of 57 ½ sq ft.

Note: The type “Lenora Borchardt Center” on the east and west sides and front awning of building EXCEEDS the previously approved sign size by the Historic District Commission for all the aforementioned sides of the building (east, west and front). However, a subcommittee of the Historic District Commission felt that this portion of the sign didn’t constitute advertising for the business and therefore they made an exception and approved this application in full.

This letter shall serve as a Certificate of Appropriateness in compliance with the guidelines set forth by the Historic District Commission and the City of Gastonia’s Zoning Ordinance. This letter should be kept for your records.
