Visibility, & Outreach
Free SPEED Lacrosse Clinic• On August 17, 2017, the MLA hosted a free SPEED
Lacrosse demonstration and clinic by Casey Powell at Eden
Prairie High School.
• Close to 100 people in attendance including over 50 boys
and girls participating, some traveling from over an hour
outside the metro-area to attend.
• The board believes that SPEED Lacrosse presents a very
accessible format to “square the pyramid” and further grow
the game consistently with the Lacrosse Athlete
Development Model (LADM) that US Lacrosse and the
MLA introduced last year.

Eligibility: Local lacrosse organizations within the State
of Minnesota
Grants may provide financial or in-kind donation
support for the following purposes:
• Coaching education and training subsidies
• Official and Umpire education and training subsidies
• Sponsorship or support of a charitable event

Diversity & Inclusion
Eligibility: Local lacrosse organizations within the State of Minnesota are
eligible to apply for this grant. Preference will be made to those organizations
with US Lacrosse membership and those with non-profit status, but it is not a
requirement. Organizations may not unlawfully discriminate as to race, religion,
income, gender, disability, or national origin.
Grants may provide financial support for the following purposes:
• Coach Development Program (CDP) training for coaches
• Camps or clinics geared toward underserved populations
• In-house loaner gear provided free of charge to youth participants
• League or tournament fees
• Officials fees
• Game/practice equipment or in-house uniforms
• Operations cost to host a lacrosse event/tournament for underserved youth

ATG Legacy Project (NEW)
In late 2016, the Gott to Lax Initiative, Inc. donated certain assets, including
lacrosse equipment, lacrosse clinic supplies, and a monetary donation. The
purpose of the restricted gift is to preserve Adam Gott’s commitment to
service and outreach in order to make a difference in people’s live.
The MLA will continue the work of the Gott to Lax Initiative, Inc. by:
1. Sharing the sport of lacrosse with MN youth who otherwise may not have
the opportunity to participate in the sport;
2. Mentoring high school students as leaders in their communities; and
3. Promoting and growing the game of lacrosse in MN

ATG Legacy Project (NEW)
Eligibility: Funds must be directed to Minnesota . . .
• Low income / free and reduced lunch students
• At-risk youth, grade school through high school
• Underserved youth
• Youth with a sudden or unexpected family income change (e.g., job loss,
serious health condition)
Grants may provide financial support for the following purposes:
• Clinic insurance, field rental, necessary equipment to run clinics
• Free, gently used or new equipment
• PE equipment (soft stick) donated to elementary and middle schools
• Financial aid/scholarship for a player’s high school team fees
• Partial assistance for a high school student to become an official or umpire
• US Lacrosse membership fees to participate in community or school youth
league
Grant Request Process
• 2017 Written requests were due 7/20/16
• Board review
– Program/activity meets USL criteria and mission
– Submission met deadline requirements
– Submission included all required information
– Board notifies grant requestors of initial decision
(accepted or denied) on or about November 1st
• Board determines budget to fulfill constituent
needs
– 2017 Budget request submitted to USL
Grant Request Process

• Chapter notified grant applicants of their final
award status via letter

If you are awarded a grant
• Grant recipients must use funds as directed by
the Chapter
– Your grant letter will indicate what activity, event,
or need from your request the funding is allocated

• Complete a Follow-Up Report– Within 90 days of your activity, event, or after depositing
funds(if an on-going effort), the group must submit the report
– The report form will be located on the website and should be
emailed to the Chapter
• Failure to submit this report may impact future grant
opportunities through the Chapter

• New Start Program– offers guidance and resources to help new teams get off to the
right start
– The New Start Program is a free resource for both members
and non-members of US Lacrosse
• First Stick Program– The First Stick Program is designed to deliver comprehensive
US Lacrosse developmental and safety resources, equipment,
US Lacrosse membership and coach training to awarded
teams. The ultimate goal of each two-year partnership is to
develop self-sustaining youth lacrosse programs that operate
by US Lacrosse national standards and best practices.

PE Workshop Grants

PE WorkshopThe Physical Education Workshop grant provides in-service training to help
educators, coaches and community leaders learn how to introduce and teach the
sport of lacrosse using soft lacrosse equipment, rules and skills. In addition to
this in-service training, the grant awards a set of soft lacrosse equipment to each
school or organization that is represented by a participant at the workshop.
Examples of qualifying groups are (but not limited to): school systems or school
districts, parks & rec organizations, and after school programs and community-
based organizations (i.e. YMCA).
• Soft-Stick Program– The US Lacrosse Soft Stick Lacrosse Equipment Grant provides a set of soft
lacrosse equipment to schools, after-school programs and community-based
youth organizations.
– Examples of qualifying groups are (but not limited to): individual schools, an
existing lacrosse team, parks & rec organizations, and after-school or
community-based organizations (i.e. YMCA).

EDUCATION US Lacrosse provides essential and comprehensive educational resources, tools and information for coaches officials, parents, players, administrators and volunteers to ensure a quality experience for the lacrosse community.

2017 Election Information
At least 3 positions on the MLA Board will be voted on this fall:• 2 expiring seats (Tom Rhee - President, Brent Lindstrom – MN “Out-state” Liaison)• 1 vacancies (Theresa Boyd)
The application deadline for all 3 Board of Director positions is 5:00 PM CT on Friday, November 3, 2017. The 2 expiring board member seats will serve 3-year terms through December 31, 2020, and the 1 vacant board member seat will serve a 2-year term on the MLA Board of Directors through December 31, 2019.
Applicants should submit five (5) letters of nomination from US Lacrosse Members residing in MN no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, November 17, 2017.
• Each letter should state the name of the applicant being nominated and include nominator's full name, address, US Lacrosse number, email address, phone number and signature.
• Scanned copies of the letters may be submitted by the applicant or nominator to [email protected]. Please ensure the applicant's name is in the subject line of the email.
• The applicant should have physical copies of the nomination letters and keep them in case they are requested.
• Applications with one or more accompanying nomination letters will be given stronger consideration than those without nomination letters.
The election will be held at the December 2017 meeting of the Chapter
The Board of Directors will determine how each open position will be filled based on: (i) the strength of the applications; (ii) letters of nomination; (iii) Board Member voting; and (iv) the Election Committee's input and recommendations.
